Hey, quick tip (specifically if you're having trouble with the download part)! When you open origin after reinstalling it on your D drive, instead of clicking "Download" on the sims 4, click on the small cog, then click "locate game." That will automatically open up your origin program folder. Click the "sims 4" folder that you've transferred over, and confirm that selection. Then origin will just need to verify that those are the correct files, instead of trying to download the whole game over again. I didn't have 20gb free on my D drive after the transfer, so origin wouldn't originally let me "download" it, as I didn't have the "free space." Doing it this way, however, I didn't have any issues.

Hi Amyah .T, Thanks for taking the time out to watch my video! If your mods are not showing up or when you open your game it creates a new folder, it's because they are not linked correctly. Keep in mind, The Sims 4 Game can only read from your C: Drive. You you would have to add mods/cc to your external hard drive and then link them to your C: Drive using the Link Shell extension. Here's the link for the link shell extension download: schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html. Most people use this method when they are running out of storage space on their PC but they want to download more mods/cc. This method allows you to do so. Let me know if this helps!! 😊
I have no space on my c drive and every time I open the game I get an error about starting with low space I have sims 4 download to d drive is there a way to fix that
I have a few questions. If I reinstall Origin directly to my new drive as instructed, how will installing packs work? I usually buy my extra content from CDKeys which I use redemption codes in Origin to install, so would I also just be able to put in my redemption codes into my D-Drive's Origin application (when it's opened) just like how I would if it were just normally on my C-Drive too? Sorry if that was confusing, I'd be glad to elaborate if needed :)
Yes it will work the same way. Your origin is just on your d drive instead of your c drive. You’ll still put your code in as normal through origin. Let me know if that at helps !! ❤️🥂

I use HDD that’s the standard most people use. You can use any external hardrive. I’d just make sure it’s a good quality one with enough storage space. I recommend HDD 1-2TB. SSD external drives are good as well they are just a little more on the pricier side and better in quality which explains the price. They are much faster and more durable. However if you are not looking to spend much money this is the one I use amzn.to/3D00pZD I hope that helped 😊❤️
Hi I wanted to ask you is it better to move your sims 4 game and mods on a hard drive or usb flash drive which one is better. I have a new computer but it has low memory storage so I want to know if I should buy a hard drive or usb flash drive or does it matter?
Definitely a hard drive !!! 1 or 2 TB is good because you can use it for multiple uses. Only thing is before you play you will need to plug-in your hard drive each time to play. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by ♥️♥️♥️

No question is stupid, can you move the mods folder over to d drive? yes and no. You can move your mods over to d drive but you'll still need to link them from d drive to c drive because the sims 4 can only read mods from your c drive. I hope that answers your question.
@@OfficiallyZy so what you’re saying is that the hard drive is completely useless for not taking up space on your c drive with mods ? because i got my hard drive for the sole reason of not taking up space but are you saying that won’t be possible?
@@anna-wf2it no that’s not what I am saying. I think you Miss understand the meaning and purpose of shell link extension. Hey there! Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. It's worked very well for me, but I do have a small problem. Every time I relaunch Origin, it has to reinstall TS4 and all of my packs. It's not installing them anywhere though. When I check my C drive to see if it happened to install them there, there's nothing. When I check my SSD to see if the game is still there or has to be completely reinstalled everything is fine. If I launch TS4 before the game finishes "installing" the whole game is there. Did you back up your mods? If so, take your mods out of the Sims 4 Folder then delete your local cache file and options file. Open the Sims 4 and make sure custom script mods is turned on. Check both boxes then apply changes. Close the game and put your mods back in the mods folder and reopen your game. Let me know if that works.
I know after switching over my game to my D: drive it does take longer to load. I noticed it loads with no problem after I take all of my mods out. Which explains the loading times. I am guessing the more mods you add to your game the slower it loads. It needs time to load each mod you have in your game. Sometimes my game would not load at all and it was usually because of a broken or outdated mod. After taking out problem mods it would load with no problem but it still would take some time to load like a minute or so.
When you transfer your sims 4 folder your mods should already be in that folder. That folder is going to be the backup folder. Use that folder and just link it to your c drive. DM if you need extra help.
@@deniseperez7007 no it’s doesn’t really run faster I mean it still will need to load all of your cc/mods in the game but the purpose of doing this process is to save storage on your c drive. You run out of space on your cc drive and you don’t have enough space to download anything else. So that’s where the 2nd drive comes into play.
I’m not really sure about the legacy edition but I’m guessing it would work using the same method I show you in the video. Let me know if it worked for you.

Thank you so much!! ❤️ I have 2 questions: Can I delete the Sims 4 game from my C drive now its on my D drive? I saw the sims 4 icon on your desktop, does that mean you are not supposed to delete te program after you cut it to the D drive? My second question is: I read somewhere that all the saved games will be lost. Will everything saved in my gallery still be there? Thank you so much ❤️
1. No do not delete off c drive. 2. yes do not delete the program. 3. If done correctly they should not be lost. But for safety reasons I always recommend backing up your folder somewhere safe before starting this process.
If I wanted to delete my whole game and start over because I want to install it on an external hard drive, do I just have to go to install and save and make sure origin downloads on the external hard drive? And how would I download mods for my game? Thank youuuu
Thanks for stopping by, I actually did try to uninstall my entire game from the C :drive and reinstall it on my D: drive including origin but for some reason after doing this The Sims 4 Game would not read my mods from the documents folder on my D: drive. I’m not sure if the game is coded in a way where it can only read mods from the documents folder on the C: drive so that’s why I just moved the game itself to my D: Drive and not my electronic arts folder to save space. However, if you did want to experiment and see if moving everything over to an external hard drive would work just make sure you backup your mods and saves. I’d hate for you to lose everything. Also I ran into the issue of having to plug up my external hard drive every time I wanted to play the game so I just decided to use the method I show you in this video. Let me know if you were able to get it to work. You’d definitely be teaching me something new.

It’s downloading to the c drive even after I specify to download to the d drive. And now I’ve officially lost my sims folder. It was on my d drive and now it’s gone.
@@OfficiallyZy no I didn’t even do your mods video yet. And I’m still dealing with the issue now. My sims folder I removed from the program files ended up deleted. It was there then it wasn’t and since I cut and paste like you said to do, I have no other folder. What’ was going to the c drive still was the origin folder. I’m so frustrated, im ready to break the computer. I don’t even want to play the game ever again. I shouldn’t have done this. I still have my mods and saves.
So I thought I could move everything to my external hard drive myself but I made a mistake. I don’t have any cc and can’t figure out how to get any new cc in on hard drive. Could you help me please?
Not really I think the lagging could be caused by the bogging down of mods /cc loaded into the game. I've noticed the more mods/cc I add put my game in overdrive making it work more to load everything. Honestly, I don't experience much lag though. It could also be the type of pc you have. I know some PC's are much better for gaming. I personally use a desktop for my pc gaming.

Hey Destinee! Happy to help! Do you happen to remember where you downloaded your Sims game originally? The Sims 4 folder should always be in your program files folder. If you’ve downloaded the Sims it has to be saved on your C:drive unless you saved it in a different location initially.

See the thing is that the drive I'm moving my origin to doesn't have a program flies (x86). It's completely empty. And so I made a folder called program flies (x86) and idk if it works. I did everything you said. My passport (D:)>program flies (x86)>origin games> sims 4> mods. But for what ever reason when I open my game it still doesn't work like non of my mods nor cc is there.
@@OfficiallyZy hey, the link won’t work

I’m literally having the same problem 😥

Which drive do you have is it HDD OR SSD? and can you use any external hard drive ? Or does it have to be SSD ?

Hey Bailey, still trying to figure out how to get it working on a Mac. Haven’t found a solution just yet.
This might sound stupid but can I move my mods folder over to the d drive ?
Your folder is linked so it doesn’t actually store the mods on your c drive it just mirror it so your game can still read the files. If you need further assistance please feel free to book an appointment with me. I’d be more than happy to walk you through the process.
It's acting like it's running a repair or something every time. Help!

Not sure why but my entire game totally uninstalled from my computer after I moved it to D drive
Did you make sure to adjust the origin settings so that it could find your sims 4 files on your new drive?
ua-cam.com/video/LPeKPeLpgYg/v-deo.html
Will this make the game run smoother?
Possibly. I also adjust my resolution as well in game settings. I had to play around with the game settings to see what works best for my computer.
my mods folder is completely gone, I have tried everything for it to come up from my c drive or d drive and it wont show up
Did you back up your mods? If so, take your mods out of the Sims 4 Folder then delete your local cache file and options file. Open the Sims 4 and make sure custom script mods is turned on. Check both boxes then apply changes. Close the game and put your mods back in the mods folder and reopen your game. Let me know if that works.
I was able to do all the steps, but it's taking an extreme time to load. Still haven't loaded, any suggestions?
Has it loaded yet ?
@@ThatsRodria_ No, I'm so confused. I even double checked all the steps and uninstalled origin and set it up for my G external drive.
Do I also need to transfer my mods to my d drive or is it already there?
When you transfer your sims 4 folder your mods should already be in that folder. That folder is going to be the backup folder. Use that folder and just link it to your c drive. DM if you need extra help.
@@OfficiallyZy I’m nervous because my mods aren’t there
Do I need to uninstall origin first before I move the sims 4 to d drive?
No move folder first.
What hard drive do you recommend? I play on a MacBook Air
Honestly, I wouldn't know for MacBook air. I would assume you can use a regular hard drive like the one I have linked in the description.
@@OfficiallyZy does the game run faster when you transfer it to a hard drive?
@@deniseperez7007 no it’s doesn’t really run faster I mean it still will need to load all of your cc/mods in the game but the purpose of doing this process is to save storage on your c drive. You run out of space on your cc drive and you don’t have enough space to download anything else. So that’s where the 2nd drive comes into play.
should I move the legacy edition file to my d drive too??
I’m not really sure about the legacy edition but I’m guessing it would work using the same method I show you in the video. Let me know if it worked for you.

Also I ran into the issue of having to plug up my external hard drive every time I wanted to play the game so I just decided to use the method I show you in this video. does this make the game go faster by any chance? I have plenty of space on my laptop but its lagging so badly :(.
Not really I think the lagging could be caused by the bogging down of mods /cc loaded into the game.
