A very fine instrument. I bought a Custom Shop loaded body in the "dark lavender-blue," mint green PG, and necked mine with an old ebony FB neck and Sperzel lockers; semi-jumbo frets. I do have a real Fender built Cray neck with rosewood as well. I have done some "partscasters" and always ended up locking the trem down, dead flat.( 6 screw or two post) Have to admit that unless I have been playing my old Guild D 40, I struggle to get used to the Fender stiff action. Because I usually play the shorter 24 3/4" scale with D'Angelico nickel or Elixirs, I have to acclimate to the 25 1/2 tension. I like ebony FB's because I get better vibrato from the dense, so hard wood. The quality of Sperzels cannot be seriously debated- perhaps extra weight. My Fender Cray neck has the real thing for tuners. Even through a little Peavey "Backstage," the guitar is versatile, from power to subtle. It likes the "Super-Six" pedal as well. Your play here does a nice job of showing the Cray's character- mellow like Robert, but we know it can have screaming guts when "provoked." Great video. Validated my choice, especially with the other folks' comments. Thank you.
Yes, I am already down to "9's". On short scale guitars, I use "10's" or a mix with "11's". Some of it is my age (70) and arthritis, because I have had the D40 for decades. Thanks
Robert Cray Strat with a maple fretboard? His Signature Strats are based on early '60s models and have rosewood boards. I have one myself in Inca Silver, which this one appears to be too.
Wow, sounds great! I'm grabbing a RC Strat next month, thought about swapping neck for Tele neck I have. My hands are average and I heard original neck was a little big, your thoughts? Thanks for the demo!
The neck is not that big, actually, but I do love fat necks myself. It's a little bigger than a regular Fender C, but not by much. I'd play it first if I were you to gauge if a replacement is truly needed. Enjoy it! :)
Fantastic friend , enjoy it .

Have you tried different string gauges?

Nice playing - enjoy your fabulous new guitar. It's in good hands.
Thanks for the kind words! :)

I was thinking the same thing

Is that metallic silver metallic Inca silver with a gloss top
It's regular inca silver :)
Cray strat with maple neck? I think it is not original Cray strat.
You're right! The neck was swapped out by the previous owner...
Vasya Fender yep thinking same thing but he said he changed the neck. I wonder why? The rosewood was nice. I had a purple custom shop.
Enjoy it bud looks great
50s strat ?
It sure is fun. I especially like the no trem bridge! Hardtails for my starts are what I prefer. The Custom Shop pickups don't hurt either.
+ThreeChordGuitar ain't that the truth
I'm about to mod mine and screw the bridge down
No more outta tune bending :)
Attaboy! :)
guitarman65854 it's a mix of I think a 57 and 62. I think. Not sure of the 2nd year.
