I will never buy another one as long as musk owns the company. My M3 performance is a great car, but although it was advertised as getting 315miles on a full charge, the most it can possibly get is 270 and its usually less, and that's with every energy consuming feature disabled to maximize range. They offered me a $500 service credit if I signed a paper saying I'd never discuss it publicly.. Lots of good alternatives out there now. Rivian, Polestar, etc.
I've been holding out for Juniper for about ~15months now. Don't think I can justify Launch though. $8k FSD and $3k White/White/Tow being "included" is an $11k value but the old MY right now is sitting at a base of $40k. With the options I want, $43k. Juniper at $58k… pretty hard to justify nearly a 34% premium when I've already been patient 15months and if I'm patient 16 or 17 I can get what I want for sub-$50k with FSD as-needed at $100/mo. Also don't really care about the Tax Credit because if it goes away then I fully expect pricing to drop $3-5k in short order as well.
I kinda agree I think it’s probably better to wait. I had a friend get a launch addition cyber truck and he said it wasn’t worth the extra money plus the quality wasn’t as great as someone who bought after him. He was really upset about that.
All Current Modely Y 2021+ owner easly going to wait another year or 2 before upgrade, that second gen suspension will be my biggest reason to upgrade tbh :D
I had no issues with the suspension. The issue for me is that the door handles and charge port aren't illuminated. It's insane. I've been in so many situations where it's night time, I parked somewhere that doesn't have a street light and the only reason I can get in is because I'm used to my car and can feel for the handle. It's stunning to me that they can sell a $60K car and you have to fumble for the door handle at night. Ventilated seats will be nice as well. And also, no the people in the back seat will be able to put their heat on themselves and won't have to ask me, which is the way it always should have been.
Still no 800V architecture, no bigger battery, no increased range, no increased charging speed, no V2L, no V2G. Most Chinese EVs have all those features
Thats because Tesla is relying on their brand image to do their sales so they think they cant get away with less for the same. But Elon Musk the clown is actively destroying the brand image too so if they dont up their game they will be left behind
800V has no benefit to the car, it is only affecting charging speed by reducing losses in the charging cable. The range is quite good already. Battery development is independent from model changes. V2L and V2G are nice but if you buy a home battery that even keeps the lights on when your car isn't at home. Tesla sells those as well.
If I could do FSD transfer to take 8K off that price, I'd be at the showroom placing my order now (coming from a 2019 Model 3 SR+ with white interior and FSD being the only add-ons we got). Generally we wouldn't go for the paint and wheel upgrades or acceleration boost, but we were already considering the tow hitch and white interior (depending on included exterior color). This is actually a pretty good value for people who want all the upgrades.
I think this refresh is totally worth the money if you give this car a go on a 2 or 3 year lease instead. try it out, wait for the price to come down and tweaks updated, and then buy it after 2 years. totally worth while imo.
Excited, but I'll wait with my 2020 Model Y Performance, since this new Model Y likely won't have better range or charging speeds compared to mine, and I'm sure the trade-in value for mine won't be much which will make it tougher to trade up. I also have 105k miles/168.9k km on it after only 4 and a half years, so I'm really enjoying driving it and doing road trips with it. But for anyone who doesn't already own a Tesla, that Launch edition is an overall pretty great deal since I paid $72k for mine back in 2020 with blue color, tow hitch, FSD ($7k at the time), and no tax credit. No clue what will happen with the tax credit going forward, so if you qualify for it, I'd jump at that deal.

That would be great, but it seems like Tesla thinks the future of their company is one where there is no driver, so I'd guess that's why features like those are getting left out.
The price is going up $4k in Canada, and there's no more iZEV incentive... it feels like getting the Launch series is my only hope of getting a good deal for now since otherwise I'd have to wait for it to go down past $4k in discounts to get a non Launch version and come out ahead. I do want FSD, Quicksilver, and the tow hitch, so I think this is a good deal with the current information I got.
Is it guaranteed if you order the Model Y refresh now that you will get the tax credit? Is tax credit dependent on when vehicle is ordered or when picked up?
As always, @Ryan thank you for the great video and update. I know Tesla packed about $13k worth of features including FSD, paint color, wheels, etc. into this model Y Launch series, but that doesn’t do it for me. I’d patiently wait for the performance M-Y trim with 21” wheels and top speed etc. Hopefully production of the performance trim follows soon with deliveries in the summer.
Handed back my 2020 Model 3 here in the UK back in August '24 in anticipation of this new Y refresh. I'm afraid the cost of this launch edition has put me off and as as result I ordered a LR-RWD 3 yesterday on lease. The leasing deals at the minute were too good to turn down, especially with the long wait time for this new Y, and that initial base cost. WAY too much for me, personally.
Great choice. You get a better car, with better range, that is more fun to drive, cheaper, uses less electricity and doesnt look like a bar of soap. Why were you thinking about going for a Model Y in the first place lol
Another feature on the new MY is the old MY you can't change the Deceleration mode, it's not even available. On the new MY, you can change between Reduced or Standard. Now you won't get car sick when it let off the accelerator pedal.
It would be funny if Tesla made the puddle light also exclusive to the model y performance whenever it releases. Like a badge that resembles the performance badge. To be honest I feel like they should do that for all their performance cars (plaids included.)
Still love my 23 MYP, curious to see how the performance and mostly the suspension stacks up when they release the Juniper performance variant. Not in any rush to upgrade, the car is still head and shoulders above a lot of competition.
As of today, 1/24/2025, Tesla China already selling only the new model Y of the RWD and AWD. Both model with the option to purchase the enhance autopilot at USD4,384 and fully autonomous driving at ~USD8,700. In China, new model RWD price at ~USD36,100 and AWD at ~USD41,575. So, AWD with full autonomous driving option will be at ~USD50,275. In US, we just received the release today and has only one model to choose from at $59,990. In China 5 color to choose from, US has 4. China, $150 refundable order deposit, US $250 Non-refundable.
I just speced the Model Y I'd purchase it came out exactly the same price as the Launch edition. Red, w/White interior, tow hitch, and FSD. For me that would be a no-brainer to get the launch version. It's not so much a higher price, but just a specific, top spec, configuration bundle to simplify initial production. If I wanted the 20 inch wheels, the Launch edition would actually be cheaper than the old version.
1) if I order the launch Edition and receive it in March, will I be eligible for the $7500 tax credit? 2) iff the $7500 tax credit is removed, do you expect the Y price to decrease?
The only people that should buy at launch are marketers. But still a cool upgrade. At least these new models will make the used inventory more affordable for more people to enjoy an EV
Yea and FSD. But since we in Europe have outdated laws, thats not something that will be useable for quite a while.... If you were to spec your Model Y with all the options (white seats, bigger wheels, tow hitch, FSD etc) it actually is a good price. And even if you would only get a tow hitch, its still in front of other automakers that charge you 2k £ for some different color stitching on some seats lmao
So here in the UK we get screwed! No FSD. Only two colour options (black and silver - both nice). £13k more than previous version (so FSD savings passed on to us). Only one wheel choice (Helix, the nicer one).
Unfortunately it doesn't give a discount to the Buyer (since it's a newly released vehicle) but the discount code still gives rewards to the owner. If you'd like to use mine, let me know cause I'd appreciate it!
A bit surprised you didn't mention the 3rd row once in the video. For some like myself I'll have to wait until the 3rd row is available since my current Y has 3 rows. Waiting is not a problem though. What I'm going to be watching is whether the China rumor about a 6 seat Model Y later this year turns out to be true. And if yes is there any chance they could offer that seat layout in the US? I'd much prefer a 6 seat Model Y then the current 3rd row layout.
I'm sorry that have to keep waiting for the regular priced Model Y Juniper as I am keen to buy, but not interested in paying more than the old Model Y. Before they reduced it to clear out old inventory of course.
Thanks Ryan, that launch edition is available in Canada as well for $84,990.00 after watching Kyle's Out of Spec review from China this is a really great upgrade! I priced up the same car but in a Long Range AWD, with White color, white interior, 19" wheels and FSD and it is CAD$82,516.00 which is only $2,474.00 more so to me a really great deal if you want FSD and by the looks of it it is now worth it. My current 2023 Model Y Long Range AWD, white exterior white interior with tow hitch is limited on FSD as it is a HWD3 car, so I am really wondering how the fit and finish will be on such an early release, so similar to the outgoing that it may not be an issue. has there been on the Model #3 refresh on early deliveries?
Ordered an ultra red Launch Series this morning I got the email. Included FSD and other stuff a no Brainer. Just wish there was longer 400 miles range.
@@rodscuba1961 My trade in for the 2020 Model Y LR, with FSD, red with white interior, trailer hitch, 20 inch wheels, 54,600 miles was about $19,100 as of yesterday. We'll keep it and sell my wife's '13 Ford Edge.
In a way. It's a good thing for your car because it means you bought in at a good time. It'll be sometime before solid state batteries become a thing and kick up the energy density.
I was comparing the costs and it seems there's a premium price on the launch model, making it confusing with 0-60 halfway between the current performance and long range models. I can't tell this is a performance model or long range awd, maybe that is intentional
@@Samuel-nf3pm Thanks, I wasn't aware of this feature until I researched it. Personally it seems we'd get a better deal by waiting a bit for the new Performance model to become available but the new model seems poised to be a best seller again.
Well...for insurance, they won't be able to devalue your car in a total loss scenario. If you were already planning to get the maxed out options, the 'launch edition' product does make sense.
So, the Shanghai factory not just the first to launch but also in full production immediately so no need to put out the trial production volume tarted up to squeeze the most out of the customer until those other factories are up to speed.
I just bought another 2025 model Y with a huge discount, because I was waiting for the new model Y with bidirectional charging, 800v architecture, 48 volt electronics, and 350 plus miles of range. That didn't happen so I went with the old model.
I bought X short range at 110k in2021. I had a noise issue. I got it fixed. Tesla charged me 4400. I was shocked. I wanted to sell it to tesla. They said 25k. I decided to keep it. Resale value is killing me. My friend has issue the cooling water leaks. They said 9000 dollars to fix it.
Disappointing than you neglected to mention the significant arbitraetory Tesla price increases coming Feb 1 in Canada, which appear to be in support of Trump’s economic threats against Canada. Prices for its Model 3 vehicle are increasing by up to $9,000, while prices for its Model Y, X and S vehicles are rising by up to $4,000. That, together with the recent cancellation of the federal government’s $5,000 EV rebate program, makes Tesla unaffordable for a huge number of people.
I’m confused….the original model y everyone i know said the suspension is to firm soooo they put a firmer suspension on it with the new one? Makes no sense ha
Ryan if you take the price of the "old" Model Y Long Range and add the paint, wheels, FSD you are at the price of the Launch version. I can't really see this as a high price version.
the thing is most people dont get all that stuff, especially FSD. Tesla is making a killing on those options because the paint, wheels, and fsd are extremely high profit margin. Most teslas I see driving around nowadays are grey with the free wheels.

NEVER buy Tesla at launch. I pre-ordered my M3 before Elon reveal it and I am driving my second M3. I have the position to say. 1. Not just Tesla, any car's first model year will have more issues due to lack of real world testing. If your tolerance is high for tedious issues, fine, but you might need to wait 3 weeks to get an appointment with Tesla. 2. Tesla is likely to drop the price in 6 months. Just look at the history 3. You get more hardware feature if you wait. First M3 did not even have mirror light, no power trunk. Tesla added such hardware after users like me complained in different channels. Let's those super fans or less-smart people to test the product for you. waited a few months for more real world reviews. Then you can pull the trigger. I am a reasonable super fan of Tesla. What Tesla's really need is a heads-up display for the driver........
That would be great, but it seems like Tesla thinks the future of their company is one where there is no driver, so I'd guess that's why features like those are getting left out.
They would have to licence that tech from whomever owns the patent. Not something Tesla have a track record of ever doing.
Yes, they need information through steering wheel
@@doobryw538 Heads-up display technology has been around for years. The original patent has long since expired....
Not likely to happen. People have been asking for that feature for almost 10 years.
Ill be buying mine in December 2025!
And then a month later they're going to come out with AI5. I swear you always lose no matter when you buy with Tesla.
@@480brad smartest dude in chat!!
Yep when it’s 0 interest and price reduction normally dec/jan
I’m definitely buying at the end of a quarter probably Q3 or Q4
Why not buy a used Pontiac Aztec?
The front looks very bland to me. Like a revived Oldsmobile.
Likely pick up
It’s pick up for sure. Just like people who ordered in December before the tax credit started but didn’t get their car until the new year.
You can sign the $7,500 over to Tesla at point of sale as part of the down payment, that way you dont need to claim it as a tax rebate later.
Ryan, checked the online ordering page and it says that the tax credit for purchase or finance is $4,000, not $7,500. How can we find out why?
Disregard...it now shows $7500. Not sure what happened.
good job Ryan and thanks
@@DerFettePandaLP haha. a bar of soap! Your point well made!😂
Hi Brian. Thanks for the video. Steer by wire? How about the steering radius?
Another feature on the new MY is the old MY you can't change the Deceleration mode, it's not even available. On the new MY, you can change between Reduced or Standard. Now you won't get car sick when it let off the accelerator pedal.
It would be funny if Tesla made the puddle light also exclusive to the model y performance whenever it releases. Like a badge that resembles the performance badge. To be honest I feel like they should do that for all their performance cars (plaids included.)
Do we know which battery chemistry will be in the US made MY?
Made in Austin or Fremont?
Megacastings front and rear?
Why do you need a turn stalk when you have/use FSD? I have a refreshed MS & Cybertruck and never felt the need for turn-stalk.
Still love my 23 MYP, curious to see how the performance and mostly the suspension stacks up when they release the Juniper performance variant. Not in any rush to upgrade, the car is still head and shoulders above a lot of competition.
60k euros and no FSD included. Only black and silver too. 20’ wheels only. Black interior only. Tow hitch included
What about the performance model?
Isn’t the suspension already updated on 2024/25’s, and the windows?
2023 Model Y got a slightly softer suspension. New one will have much better ride and be much quieter.
Suppose the tax rebate is eliminated in February. If I order the new Y AND pay for it NOW, will I get the lower cost when the car is delivered in May?
The only people that should buy at launch are marketers. But still a cool upgrade. At least these new models will make the used inventory more affordable for more people to enjoy an EV
I've had my Model Y LR for about 1.5 year. I will not change now, but definitely keep the Juniper on the radar.
Any release date for Europe / UK?
Insane UK price. £61k for what only looks like a badge a tow hitch.
And now 7.5% APR
Unfortunately, the disccount code does not apply to the Launch model.
Unfortunately it doesn't give a discount to the Buyer (since it's a newly released vehicle) but the discount code still gives rewards to the owner. If you'd like to use mine, let me know cause I'd appreciate it!
Waiting for the performance version.
82k is alot. Wait a bit for the prices to drop
Took a small position in the Adaxum presale. Let’s see how things develop.
Do you think Tesla will offer anymore free supercharging on any models or bring back the free supercharging transfer from an old to a new vehicle?
Ordered an ultra red Launch Series this morning I got the email. Included FSD and other stuff a no Brainer. Just wish there was longer 400 miles range.
Now, I am thinking to get the older Model Y since it cheaper!
What is the battery chemistry for model Y juniper anyone knows
The referral code won’t work on the updated Model Y launch series 🤷♂️
An extra 10/15 bands for a light bar and a camera and one less stock
Just ordered the Launch series.
No FSD included in UK, that's still an additional £6800 !!!! (and its not working here either)
Its even worse if your planning on leasing or financing - £375pm vs £875pm - more than double the price, for the ~same car
@@richiegraham4243and because of the price of the new version the down payment is twice as large too!
Just ordered it and will trade in my 2020 MY.
How much do you think you will get for your My2020. I have a LR 2020
@@rodscuba1961 My trade in for the 2020 Model Y LR, with FSD, red with white interior, trailer hitch, 20 inch wheels, 54,600 miles was about $19,100 as of yesterday. We'll keep it and sell my wife's '13 Ford Edge.
Adaxum might be worth a closer look if you’re into projects with real-world applications.
I ordered one. But this time I will do a lease. No more out right purchasing any EVs. And if I change my mind I’m only out $250.
When will juniper hit the mass market us ?
When do you think Tesla 2 will arrive?
I wouldn’t upgrade my 2020 LR with Ohlins suspension to the Juniper MY unless they offer an upgrade with a longer range than the actual 300 miles.
It’s the Long Range AWD with the performance boost. Normally that performance boost cost $2000 to buy.
The launch model seems to be the long range awd with acceleration boost included.
@@Samuel-nf3pm Thanks, I wasn't aware of this feature until I researched it. Personally it seems we'd get a better deal by waiting a bit for the new Performance model to become available but the new model seems poised to be a best seller again.
Why would you buy when it only comes with FSD and the maxed out options
Well...for insurance, they won't be able to devalue your car in a total loss scenario. If you were already planning to get the maxed out options, the 'launch edition' product does make sense.
So, the Shanghai factory not just the first to launch but also in full production immediately so no need to put out the trial production volume tarted up to squeeze the most out of the customer until those other factories are up to speed.
looks like in the mobile app nor in the web ordering, they aren't taking trade-ins
I just bought another 2025 model Y with a huge discount, because I was waiting for the new model Y with bidirectional charging, 800v architecture, 48 volt electronics, and 350 plus miles of range. That didn't happen so I went with the old model.
That's not a bad thing...more confidence in EVs regardless of model year is a good thing for our environment in the long run.
😮 Tesla doesn’t offer warranty?
Can't wait to be able to avail one.
,In the EU, the Launch Edition cost about 9 000 € more, without FSD. than a compatible LR all-wheel drive.
No transfer of FSD from my current so meh
FSD was not included at least not on the europe model one
Disappointing than you neglected to mention the significant arbitraetory Tesla price increases coming Feb 1 in Canada, which appear to be in support of Trump’s economic threats against Canada. Prices for its Model 3 vehicle are increasing by up to $9,000, while prices for its Model Y, X and S vehicles are rising by up to $4,000. That, together with the recent cancellation of the federal government’s $5,000 EV rebate program, makes Tesla unaffordable for a huge number of people.
Yup, I think Tesla sales in Canada are going to really slow down because of this.
Ryan has another video he just released citing the price increase in Canada based on the new administration and the forthcoming tariffs.
The 'Launch Edition' is the Model Y's "Foundation Edition". Yay.
ADX tokens are the future of E-commerce and DeFi. Glad I got in on the presale early for 2025 gains!
I’ll wait for the Black color option. By then everything should be up to speed
I’m confused….the original model y everyone i know said the suspension is to firm soooo they put a firmer suspension on it with the new one? Makes no sense ha
Buying one for no other reason then to support elon, the guy is doing god's work.
Cool that most shots are from the Alabama Hills area in California. Mt Whitney, the tallest peak in the contiguous United States, is pictured in the background in many shots
NO UPFRONT SPEED DISPLAY
Hey, check this one out: Adaxum is gaining traction. It might be worth considering while the presale is live.
where is my head up display??
I really, _really,_ *really, **_really_* want a *Roe Boven* to use as a _self-driving_ mobile home. Failing that a *CyberTruck* with a *CyberLandr.*

Price yesterday was $46,490 and today $55,990 this is insane !!!!!!!!
It was always around the $55k mark though....
GOT MINE IN QUICKSILVER LETS GOOOOO
Best - I want 1 on Silveradoooo
the older model Y does not seem to be at a 'reduced' price. the long range is still $48,000
I love the look of it, and I'm sure it drives great. However, I'll wait for bidirectional charging.
You were right about the batteries and other upgrades.
Will the refresh model y get AI5 eventually?
Yes but in 2026 most likely
The Model S and Model X will most likely be redesigned before HW5 comes out. So maybe another 1-2 years.
Elon said Q3-Q4 of 2025 🤷🏽♂️
NEVER buy Tesla at launch.
Just look at the history
I am sure I will get a MY but not at launch
