    Rust issues?? Seriously, you guys out west have NO CLUE what rust issues are(as in these don't exist on the east coast anymore). While this Cherokee would be a project, it was extremely saveable!

    I parted out a diesel Suburban damn near identical to that one. It was the same brown but white instead of tan. Was a bench inside but the same color interior.
    Steering wheel in the Jeep would bring around $100 not too hard. Tilt column in it too.
    That Suburban has a lot of $$$ parts too. Cluster and plastic dash face, tilt, buckets, doors and fenders if you were willing to ship them, the injector pump, grille, hood ornament, hood edge trim, etc etc etc. We got a diesel Blazer in the yard here in February and I did about $400 on like $80 of parts - the tilt, the steering wheel, the console, the dash cluster and it had a one or two year only (83) delay wiper deal in it.

    Whoa Nelley, that Tahoe looks like a PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle) which typically has a performance 5.3L Vortec, and it's bad, boys, bad boys, what you gonna do when they come for you?
    We got the VIN, we win: J for Jeep Corporation, 9 for 1979 model year, A for Toledo, OH assembly, left hand drive with automatic transmission, 19 for Cherokee Chief, two door, wide track with 109" wheelbase, N for 6,200# Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, N for 360 V8 with two barrel, and the rest is the production sequence. Possible code 9E Wedgewood Blue exterior paint.
    That Parts Master Seal is made by (or at least marketed by since it's made in Italy) National Seal who is part of Timken Bearing now. These had a Motorcraft (Ford) two barrel carburetor and typical of Ford's carburetion in those years, it was sloppy, inefficient and a stalling nightmare. Also typical of AMC of this era is "All Makes Combined" with parts from various sources under the hood and throughout. Quadra Trac was the full time four-wheel drive and Selec Trac was the selectable four-wheel drive. QT was Jeep's version of the Borg Warner four-wheel drive transfer case system, and in some years, a GM THM400 was the transmission used (with the AMC pattern).
    Yup, Detroit Diesel (at that time part of GM) sourced 6.2L V8 diesel with the VIN getting us the win and you got the SPID, glad you did: 1G8 for US made Chevrolet multipurpose vehicle, E for 6,001 to 7,000# Gross Vehicle Weight range with hydraulic brakes, C for 4x2 conventional cab, 1 for 1/2 ton rated vehicle, 6 for Suburban, C for 6.2L V8 diesel engine, 9 is a check digit, E for the 1984 model year, F for Flint, MI assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Flint, MI plant still assembles trucks today.
    Whoa Nelley, 2 for 1 and both are done. The Jeep turned into a heap. The 'Burban looks disturbing. Oil burner and no longer a head turner. That's it, time to quit. Going to be flat and that's that. AMC and it's over for thee. Someone had a beef with the Chief. Almost a Car and not going very far. Motorcraft needs a life raft. Going to both get squished and the AMC and 'Burban faithful are going to be pretty pissed.

      The Tahoe PPV is the same 5.3 as a civilian 2 wheel drive truck. Just an LMG code 5.3 which is an iron block with either 243 or 799 heads on it. They have AFM, 2010 up has VVT. They just come with a heavy duty cooling system, alternators and the speed limiter is higher as an actual PPV. Some people believe the tune is better but it's not... same 87 octane friendly tune a civi has lol.

    • @googleusergp
      @googleusergp 2 роки тому +1

      @@LSswapGarage1 That's not entirely correct. The parameters/performance tuning is typically different for the PPV than a civilian vehicle. Plus there are things that can be done on a fleet specific vehicle that may not be available on the civilian version. The PPV also uses the Camaro ZL1 LT4 rocker arm covers.

    That's a total *WASTE* of a *REAL* AMC Jeep. Should have been sent to Pick N Pull for parts or dirt rallied if not restored. As it sits, it's still better than that Fiat-Chrysler crap that's being produced today! Where I live, I see some Wagoneers of this era, but never a 2 door Sport model!
    The rust is not the worst I've seen, but it could be realistically used as parts.
    Same goes with the Suburban. GM diesel engines in the 80s were not known for reliability and are prone to developing issues. The hood could have been saved at the very least as it's not bent/rusted like 85% of squarebody style hoods.
    Anyways, the Jeep is a bigger waste than the International & the Suburban. AMC Jeeps are always superior to FCA craptastic Jeeps!

      The new Jeeps are garbage. I can't believe how many people buy those pos Renegades....which are just rebadged Fiats. The new Grand Cherokee as ugly as f. The Compass...with emphasis on Ass looks.like a turd. And don't even get me started on the Gladiator...lol ugly. And the new Grand Cherokeee which is also hideous. As you can tell...i am not much of a fan of the new Jeeps. They used to be cool until Fiat and Chrysler merged. Except now the company is called Stelaris ot something like that....sounds like an erectile disfunction med.

    So glad you left that one in the graveyard. Terribly neglected. I see people restoring cars nowadays that really belong in the smelter. Cars left outdoors for years, with the windows open. So much rust, they are no longer structurally sound. Sad, but best to leave that Jeep RIP.
