OMG Jaclyn!!! That’s all I’ve been watching today on YT as I’m always on the lookout - and growing a bit of an addiction in collecting ;-)! I cant wait to see if I have any in my bookshelves! Commenting before watching 😅 😊 ❤
@@jaclynbaerart I have so very many and mostly thrifted … but I’m still searching for the Audobon book since learning about it (how wonderfully anthropomorphic those bird images are!) When I was recently in London, a lovely lady volunteering at a charity shop, having seen me pick up a few botanical illustration books wondered wether I’d be interested in something they had at the back…. She comes out with a deluxe edition of the complete plates of The Book of Plants by Basilius Besler - a massive tome in pristine conditions… for about $10 … long story short - I was compelled and had to get extra luggage to carry everything back to Italy… !
Hi, Jaclyn! A big thank-you for this video and all the inspiration.🥰 Among all the authors you mentioned, I know only Julia Cameron, and I love both of her most known books - The artist way and Walking in this world. But many years ago I also discovered Tama J. Kieves, and she's been my favourite author when it comes to creativity and inspiration. "This time I dance" and "Inspired and unstoppable" are fantastic - in my humble opinion. If you ever bump into these two I highly reccomend them. I hope you have wonderful Sunday and great week ahead! Sending you much love from Slovenia 😊❤
Hey Nisa! I'm so glad you liked this video and gave me some more books to look into! I just added both to my list - I checked my libby app to borrow but they didn't have a copy, so now I can hunt for them online and at thrift stores. :) Thank you for the recs!! Also, how amazing that you live in Slovenia. I've been to your neighboring countries Austria and Italy across the sea. So next time I'm out there I"ll have to visit! Hope you have a wonderful week!
@@jaclynbaerart Yessssss ... Next time you come into my corner of the world, take a few days to visit Slovenia! I think you won't regret it. Sending you a big hug 💞🤗
I have a Tasha Tudor collection, I have most of her books, she wrote and illustrated lovely children’s books, as well as books about her. I have the same one you do, a big favorite of mine! I mentioned to you that I met her in the late 80’s …. Many moons ago (such a lovely lady living in the wrong time period)! I have a humongous book about Norman Rockwell that shows his paintings and the preliminary sketches as well as the photos he took of friends and family as models for each painting. I absolutely love seeing his work process. I love a good audio book! Especially when doing chores- then I don’t feel as if I’m being punished if I am entertained!” A couple of favorite podcasts “Paint talk podcast” and “the frugal crafter podcast” both interview artists- again , I love hearing about their process & work flow!
I remember you telling me you met her - so so amazing! And how cool you have so many of her books too. I only have the one, but will be on the lookout for more :) I loved your podcast recommendations - I started listening to "the frugal crafter" one on my drive yesterday. I love it so much and can't wait to keep listening and check out the other one too. Thank you thank you for that!
Several... =sigh= decades ago - I was twelve - I think, I was walking by a bookstore and suddenly had to backtrack to stare at the standee display for Anne McCaffrey's _The White Dragon_. At first, I mostly noticed that, wonder of wonders, the artist had gotten the dragons right (no scales to start with). I might have picked up more, but by then the family had noticed I wasn't with them and had come back to fetch me. I did manage to wrangle getting the book - Dad was responsible for getting me hooked on the Pern novels. A year or so later, I'm in the base library, and I found myself looking at that same painting, but on the cover of a different book - Wonderworks - Science Fiction and Fantasy Art of Michael Whelan. Of course I checked it out - several times. And being the only slightly unruly teenager that I was, I photo-copied some of my favorites. Fun tie-back to the video - I think there was maybe one of those that made a slightly muddy black and white copy - and that might have been as much the copier settings. The book showed several styles that he worked in over the years, many of them wildly different, but one thing the man seems to have always been a master at is light. No matter what the tone of the painting (mostly cover art), the light was always perfect for it. Even the ones where the piece is very minimalist (an Elric of Melnibone cover comes to mind, also the cover oc _Something in My Eye [creepy warning]), he manages to bring light in as a factor. If anyone has trouble capturing light in their work - study this man. On a lighter note, I tend to listen to a lot of audiobooks, mostly fiction. I love Pratchett - his way of looking at our world through the lens of the Discworld is fantastic - and entertaining as well. And I've also been listening to the Meg Langslow mystery series - they're quite fun. And on my desk is the book I picked up at COSine and really need to sit down and read - a collection of short stories titled _Domesticated Velociraptors_. I anticipate many giggles.
Thank you for your story! I love that you were 12 and found a book that inspired you so much. I looked into his work and wow! He really did get the lighting perfectly. It's so good to find artists that you love and can drool over all of their work. hehe. And to create dragons and their worlds is also fascinating! Have fun reading through your Velociraptors short stories!!
Thanks for the suggestions🙂I'm in the process of going through my books to get rid of some of them. Though, it's not an easy process. The illustrated/art books are the hardest ones to get rid of. Of course new ones come in too occasionally😅
