I lived in Germany for many years , I am Brit I had an Allo Allo Video I showed it to my German soon to be extended family and they thought it was hilarious, cant have been that bad if the Germans thought it funny.
NO WAR IS NOT FUNNY. BUT WHEN U MAKE A FUNNY SHOW ABOUT WAR TIME. IT'S HELP TO DEAL WITH IT. WE HAD ONE OVER HERE IN THE STATES. H.H. ABOUT THE NAZIS PRISON CAMP... IT'S WAS A HIT...
I am genuinely sorry for those who go out of their way to find offence in comedy, to them everything is contrary to an "ism" they say they feel "abused" or "mortally offended" by this sort of comedy. I saw a comment about the TV how "love thy neighbour" remember that? The person was scathing about how it was racist, sexist and every other ist, but they were probably not even born when it aired so just could not see how that show helped to combat racism by making racist look so stupid and idiotic and importantly making people think!
Bloody hilarious. I still watch the programme. A piss-take of all the European armies/ nations involved especially the Charles de Gaulle character (policeman). I had a German friend who rolled around the floor in hysterics when watching it. People complained? Really? Shame🤣
As a German I can"t really confirm that it was popular in Germany. I love it, discovered the programme as I was able to pick up terrestrial SSVC TV and dutch TV. I think it was most popular in countries that suffered heavily under Nazi Germany like Poland.
*Secret army* is still *the Best* . Allo allo - naughty version of gerald glaisters story of the Belgian resistance helping the *British airmen* return back to England and destroy... *Kessler* hee hee :)
We flew René to Heathrow and because the flight was full , he sat on the jump seat and we chatted when we weren’t too busy. During the cruise I asked if he would make the pa to the passengers but he politely declined. However as the flight progressed he became more relaxed and he was very funny. The one I remember was along the lines of Lufthansa still flying low over London to avoid the radar. Afterwards I regretted not giving him a “typical “ pa as a preparatory script, because I’m sure he would have had the passengers in stitches.
What a great series it was and still is, incredibly funny, mocking everything, wonderful. Always a shame when you hear another one of the actors has passed away...
I love this show and re-watch the episodes regularly. Years ago I worked on an IT project her in Belgium in the mid 1990's with three other fans and we used to talk to one another using the same "accents". One day we had three Canadians joining the project and they couldn't understand why we used those silly accents when we discussed things but switched to correct English when we had to talk to them. Lots of fun that was!
I had the "pleasure" of having to deal with Gordon Kaye on a regular basis. He was a regular customer of a company I worked for. A more unhelpful self obsessed pillock I never met elsewhere. You get a whiff of that in these interviews. Sam otoh was a wonderful man with s superb line in stories of the many great actors he worked with over the years loved Allo Allo mind you, one the best
I will now go watch all seasons again !
Great show. When I was a child the whole family watched it.
It was a superb production 👍

Apparently, it was popular in France and Germany, so it achieved a very important goal - bringing people together for a good laugh.
And here in Australia it was on every week and my mum loved it even let me as a kid watch it so it has very special memories for me
Actually, it’s completely unknown in France
Cobblers, I live in France and it’s completely unknown.
It may be now, not 40 years ago
One of the funniest shows on UK tv.
One of my favourite comedy shows ever was absolutely brilliant went to to see it live on stage twice in London hilarious 😆 😂
Not a favourite of mine - but so what? Harmless self-deprecating comedy.

Yeah my Polish housemate loves it
Listen, I will tell you this only once..........I loved this show, it was awesome....Brilliant fun
Very popular in France
It doesn’t get any better than Allo Allo. Randy fearless Madam fanny la fan was my favourite😆
It's showing on UKTV. As funny now as it ever was.
*Secret army* is still *the Best* .

When you mock all the sides thats not a insulting show .
Gorden Kaye is so great

Thats awesome! Lucky you! I would have loved to meet him. Sadly I never did.
Geweldige serie was het.
Echt he! Ik kijk het nog regelmatig 😄

Huge in Portugal. Absolutely brilliant. Hurrah! For British humour.
Actually 'Allo 'allo was a much bigger succes then "Secret Army"
So you never had a letter from Northern Ireland?
I love this show and re-watch the episodes regularly.

“I shall say this only once………….”
Best ever comedy after the honeymooners and on the buses
