I've been dabbling with the piano all of my life and even though I can play most pieces after weeks or months of memorizing, I still consider myself a novice. I've studied and tried to emulate hundreds of online tutors, and there are some fantastic content makers out there; however, after watching and following along with Jason in the past couple of months I believe that I will eventually achieve my lifelong goal of becoming an accomplished keyboard player if I continue to study his content. I'm so glad that I stumbled upon your channel Jason, you really are a fantastic tutor and musician; God bless.

explored your Channel for the last couple of weeks! unbelievable what i have learned from you! You are unlocking my problems in a very relaxed and a proper way! Hope to see more Rythm on your channel! i would love to see some tutorials on Funky Disco rythms! Funk is something i dont understand because the groove is a unexpected placement of notes! How is a funk musician thinking, counting and placing timing? 120bpm is normaly Disco music! Do you have any hints on this? Thank you Jason for doing your thing!

The fast tresillo is called "soca" ...where the hit points are 1, a of 1 ,& of 2...so on...soca has been used by vengaboys parada de tettas , extensively.
I think this answers your question as to what might be the official name of fast tresillo.
    For slow tresillo the hit points corresponds to salsa clave (1 , & of 2, 4)...the rumba clave hit points are 1, &of 2 , & of 4 ...
The pop soca or soca rhythm has been uaed by many artists of present time.

Thanks for naming them. Sometime say Soca Clave but for some reason, I keep saying Tresilo more often as it feels like the word THREE!

you may even call the fast tresillo that you played as reggaeton. It would be equally correct.
soca and reggaeton share identical rhythmic foundation of tresillo.
the concept of pop soca clave rhythm aka tresillo has been dealt in detail , in here :
      ua-cam.com/video/1QFU5tJc9ok/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LearnAudioEngineering
the concept of reggaeton has been explained here
      ua-cam.com/video/vC4_69KwSL0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=DaveWave
soca means soul of carribean...originated in africa and later modified in Trinidad & tobago and cuba.
similarly reggaeton (dembow as it is called in jamaica is nothing but the soca itself) shares same basis of having accents on 1, a of 1 , 2...
the charleston rhythm is a cropped tresillo/soca because it accents on 1 , & of 2 only.
these all are correlated because they are rooted in tribal music of africa. The slave trade brought these african rhythms to latin america....where various genres branched out to form salsa, samba, cha cha, merengue ,reggae, reggaeton, soca, tresillo, cumbia, rhumba, bossa nova, mambo ,guajira, and what not.
it fascinates me to play these grooves on piano although they have corresponding patterns for drummers and bassists. As I can only play the piano and nothing else, it excites me to assimilate the ideas of drumming and playing basses and how all these various instruments are unified under one common law.
After the recent reggae lesson ...this tresillo lesson is an added bonus....thanks a lot...
May I request a lesson on funk for future maybe.

I thought I’d share that in drumming (my primary) we use the heck out of the Tresillo. Usually over 16th notes. We also use a Super Tresillo (I made that up) 3+3+3+3+4 which fits nicely in a a measure. Both are excellent patterns for fills too.
Would you consider a lesson on the 3-2 clave? Something covering 2-3, Son and Rhumba, even something interesting like against a cascara? Pretty advanced for sure, but would be fun!

That is awesome! I will do something over the Claves! I use them quite often! And I'm digging your "Super Tresillo" or "Summer of '69" rhythm!
