If living in a settlement is an economic question, it's actually worse than if it were an ideological question. If your country doesn't work for its people, building in a place that is ambiguous by your standards and foreign by international law just makes you a person without morals instead of corrupted morals.

I see lots of comments that the first guy made the best argument for why settlements are not an obstacle to peace ("there were no settlements in West Bank prior to '67 and there was still was no peace"). I don't see how anyone can buy that argument. If peace cannot be established under current conditions, that in no way justifies further settlement on land that would be claimed by Palestinians (within 67 borders). It clearly makes any future peace agreement even more difficult if not impossible to achieve. Furthermore, the logic behind settlement building is not "oh, you don't want peace? so we'll just keep building"; it's fait accompli --- French for, "oh golly gee, look at the map, there are settlements here, and here, and here; sorry bruh, what's done is done, we can't undo what's already been built, as that would mean displacing our own citizens; guess you're just going to have to accept to a smaller piece of the land".

I think he said it all. The land itself is holy for the Jews and cultivating it is one of the biggest mitzvot, so why can't they buy the land and live as palestinian-jews in the West bank as we have a lot of communities of arab-israelis in Israel?

First guy really have a world-view waped to fit his narrative. The obstacle the settlements present is not that they wouldn't be allowed to be incorporated by the State of Palestine but that Israel and the settlements themselves would vehemently oppose it, thus making a lasting peace much more difficult to achieve. If the situation was reversed, with expanding arab settlements inside Israel living under Palestinian law I highly doubt he'd see it the same way.

The first guy is conveniently ignoring how in the decade leading up to the Hebron Massacre, Arabs were pushed off the land that the Jewish National Fund bought, deprived of the chance to even work for or rent the land from the new owners because of the JNF restrictions put on that land (that only Jews could live or work on it), driven by desperation to live in slums in and near the cities, where they would then be paid less than Jewish workers when per rules in place by the British Mandate authority even if they could find work, and then witness militant Zionists, who were recent immigrants to the country, repeatedly parading in the cities near holy sites exclaiming how they were going to take over the land for themselves. This treatment of Arabs there by the Zionists during that period was so morally abhorent that Jacob Israël de Haan, a Dutch-Jewish writer, turned away from Zionism and was assassinated by militant Zionist in 1924 shortly before he was to return to the Netherlands to report to the royal family there how the Zionists were mistreating the Arabs in Palestine.

NOT ONE Arab was pushed off any land before 1947,48 and the war. Buying the land legally is not pushing anyone off land. These forced removals results in upwards of 100,000 displaced Arabs moving to cities to see work as day laborers or factory workers, where they suffered from further discrimination due to the British Mandate’s government limiting Arab workers wages to 3/4ths of what Jewish workers received doing the same work.

That first dude brings up some excellent points. However, I think it's important to also recall that pre 1948, Jewish residents of the British Mandate of Palestine were quite violent in their zionism. This led to numerous bloody conflicts with the British authorities and with the non-Jewish countrymen of those who considered themselves to already be _Israeli._
So, 'Yes.' He's right that in '29 there was a massacre of Jews, but was this massacre because the non-Jews were unreasonably murderous? Or was it because of tensions that already existed that were exacerbated by the violence of the zionist movement? I can't say for certain. But what I CAN say for certain is that the violent chapters of zionism have fostered resentment and violence in turn.

    • @magnumopus1628
      @magnumopus1628 2 роки тому +1

I get your point but violent actions were mainly directed towards British colonialists, in order to let them pack their bags and leave.
Actions that actually served their purpose.
There was never a massacre of Arabs or expropriation of arab properties. All the land in which jews lived on was bought from the Arabs.
*And even if I'm sure there have been cases of hostility you cannot justify the massacre of dozens of random jews because of that.*
This was the point in which zionists understood the mindset and behavior of the arbas.
A mindset and behavior that are still precisely the same as 100 years ago.
We tried an infinite series of combinations of proposals, agreements, arrangements etc.
After 100 years of doing all this we also got more jaded and more in the mindset of having to deal with the modern middle eastern mentality.
Now the ratio of Arab vs Israeli casualties are somewhat out of balance (even though I don't understand how them being balanced is any better) but it's only due to the military presence in Judea and Samaria, due to the checkpoints, due to the blockade on Gaza and due to a constant investment both economic and in human effort to prevent the biggest number of tragedies.
In Israel there are 16 special forces units (which is already unusual) and 11 of those are specialized in countering terrorism (which is absolutely unique to israel) each a d every one of them work in their own specialty aspect.
So, if they can call themselves victims is only because we take care of every Israeli in an outstanding way.
If we didn't do any of this we would get killed by the thousands every single month and the world would cry fake tears for the Jewish people.
We took almost 100 years to get to this point, but while in the past we did everything we could to try to de-escalate the situation, they kept promising to kill us all for 100 years.
And they also tried to maintain that promise, so it's not just random words.
The motto is "never again", and we'll do our best to keep it that way.
Even if it means having the international community of white knights entertain themselves with this conflict and use it as an excuse to play the role of "the IG activist".
We are used to dumb people misunderstanding us and treating us like the ultimate enemy.

_"Now the ratio of Arab vs Israeli casualties are somewhat out of balance"_
I think the reason for this is twofold. The Israelis ALWAYS attacked with far greater numbers and were always dedicated to the fight. I was lucky enough to interview some Egyptian soldiers stationed in Sinai in the late 80s. While none of them were fond of Jews, none particularly wanted to kill any, either. Most soldiers of the Egyptian military hated the Egyptian military FAR more than they hated any Jews. I had both officers and enlisted men of the Egyptian military say the same thing to me on a number of occasions - "I'd be better off serving in the Israeli army than I am here!"
And so, I've been convinced by my experiences travelling through the region, that the reason Israeli soldiers- of all military branches- consistently outperform Egypt and the arabs is because during all the 'recent' conflict, the Egyptians and the arabs didn't want to be there. During those conflicts, the Jews didn't want the arabs/ Egyptians to be there. And so everyone got what they wanted.
But to speak more plainly, the reason was that the Israeli soldiers were dedicated to fighting and winning, while their opponents weren't dedicated to anything except for trying to get back home, perhaps.

I believe the "Never again" chant was about the Holocaust. It's funny that you should bring this up, after the comment I just wrote (Moshe Dayan's biography). Perhaps the meaning was "Never again shall we be victims of these atrocities," because it certainly doesn't mean "Never again shall we allow such atrocities to be perpetrated, if we can stop it!" It doesn't mean that because- as I said previously- it seems that Israel is perfectly happy to commit atrocities and crimes against humanity (possibly war crimes too, I've never really checked), as long as they aren't being committed _against_ Israel.

    From Wikipedia:
    "Palestine (region)
Palestine (Arabic: فلسطين‎ Filasṭīn, Falasṭīn, Filisṭīn; Greek: Παλαιστίνη, Palaistinē; Latin: Palaestina; Hebrew: פלשתינה Palestina) is a geographic region in Western Asia. It is usually considered to include the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Israel, and in some definitions, some parts of western Jordan. The name was used by ancient, *GREEK* writers, and it was later used for the *ROMAN* province Syria Palaestina, the *BYZANTINE* Palaestina Prima, and the Islamic provincial district of Jund Filastin. The region comprises most of the territory claimed for the biblical regions known as the *LAND OF ISRAEL* (Hebrew: ארץ־ישראל Eretz-Yisra'el), the Holy Land or *PROMISED LAND*. Historically, it has been known as the southern portion of wider regional designations such as Canaan, Syria, ash-Sham, and the Levant.
Situated at a strategic location between Egypt, Syria and Arabia, and the birthplace of *JUDAISM* and Christianity, the region has a long and tumultuous history as a crossroads for religion, culture, commerce, and politics. *The region has been controlled by numerous peoples, including*: Ancient Egyptians, Canaanites, *ISRAELITES* and Judeans, Assyrians, Babylonians, Achaemenids, ancient Greeks, *THE JEWISH HASMONEAN KINGDOM*, Romans, Parthians, Sasanians, Byzantines, the Arab Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid and Fatimidcaliphates, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mamluks, Mongols, Ottomans, the British, *AND MODERN* Israelis, Jordanians, Egyptians and Palestinians."
So first, to begin with, "Palestine" is now, and always has been, a *REGION*. It was never a country, or a nation, or a state. It has always been a *REGION*.
Secondly, as you could clearly read: "*The region comprises most of the territory claimed for the biblical regions known as the LAND OF ISRAEL*"
"*the Holy Land* or *PROMISED LAND*"
Thirdly: "*The region has been controlled by numerous peoples, including*: Ancient Egyptians, Canaanites, *ISRAELITES* and Judeans, Assyrians, Babylonians, Achaemenids, ancient Greeks, *THE JEWISH HASMONEAN KINGDOM*, Romans, Parthians, Sasanians, Byzantines, the Arab Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid and Fatimidcaliphates, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mamluks, Mongols, Ottomans, the British, *AND MODERN* Israelis, Jordanians, Egyptians and Palestinians."
The very same *REGION* called "Palestine" has never been controlled by "Palestinians" before modern times, yet it has been controlled by Israelites and the Jewish Hasmonean kingdom. After all Israel is a Jewish country.
Arab (and Jewish as well by the way) "Palestinians" may have lived in the Palestine region for many years before Israel was declared, but they never controlled (owned) the region.
Before Israel was finally declared, the last to control the land were the British, and NOT the "Palestinians".
"Mandatory Palestine[1] (Arabic: فلسطين‎ Filasṭīn; Hebrew: פָּלֶשְׂתִּינָה (א"י)‬ Pālēśtīnā (EY), where "EY" indicates "Eretz Yisrael", Land of Israel) was a geopolitical entity under British administration, carved out of OttomanSouthern Syria after World War I. British civil administration in Palestine operated from 1920 until 1948"
There you have it, British till 1948. The same year Israel was born.
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israel
"In 1947, the United Nations adopted a Partition Plan for Palestine recommending the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states and an internationalized Jerusalem.[23]The plan was *accepted by the Jewish Agency for Palestine*, and *rejected by Arab leaders*"
Even though it is the Jewish people's religious and *HISTORICAL* right to own the land, the United Nations offered the Arabs their own part of it. And the Jews were 100% fine with the plan. But the Arabs said F**K THAT, we want all of it!! So f**k the UN, and f**k the Jews who bought the land legally and want to live here! Either they get the hell out of here, or we'll kill them!!!
So don't any of you tell me, that Israel are the bad guys.
And by the way, the only times Israel shoots Gaza with missiles are when Gaza shoots missiles at Israel FIRST. They shoot at Gaza to show them they won't take an attack, laying down. And the only reason many people die from missiles in Gaza, and in Israel they don't, is because Israel invented the "Iron Dome", which protects the country from missiles being fired at it.
And the bulls**t rumors about Israeli soldiers killing innocent "Palestinian" women and children are complete lies. If you can prove me wrong with at least one video of it, please do. I beg you.
You can find hundreds of actual real films of the holocaust crimes and scenery.
Real innocent people, millions of them, being killed, for no damn good reason.
Show me ONE, just ONE video of an Israeli soldier killing any (not necessarily "Palestinian" or arab) innocent child, woman, or man.
Except the most recent video of Elor Azaria who killed an unarmed attacker (who wasn't innocent, but didn't legally deserve to be eliminated since he no longer opposed a threat)
In which, by the way, Elor was sent to jail, to pay for he's crime. He killed a man he shouldn't have, even though that man was a terrorist.
Show me a country, more moral than that...
    Have a good day.

Cool Mariam Israel did not *imprison a 16 year old. They've detained her. 16 year old Ahed Tamimi had been detained for assaulting a soldier who was trying to keep her home SAFE during an overnight raid on the place.
You can read all about that sweet innocent child in Wikipedia, instead of brainwashing Islamic media.
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahed_Tamimi
It is a shame that some people teach their children it is okay to hit other people and throw stones at them, in order to resolve issues. Those are children!! Minors!!
And as you can see here in this video: ua-cam.com/video/wmckjMb_jzs/v-deo.html
The two Israeli soldiers are very restrained, as they try very hard to ignore Ahed and her family members.
And about the Jewish settler - if you are referring to the Duma arson attack - en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duma_arson_attack
It does state in the page:
"On January 3, 2016, 21 year old Jewish settler, Amiram Ben-Uliel, was indicted (charged) for the murder, and along with a Jewish minor, for participation in the planning the murder."
Now, even though he has been charged with murder, I think he still hasn't been convicted, since I couldn't find any website stating so. (both in English and Hebrew)
But I HAVE found one website in Hebrew with a report on him, refusing to share the same cell (in jail) with a secular Jew, and thus being sent to solitary confinement
      for seven days.
      m.ynet.co.il/Articles/4932356
Anyways, that report was posted on 08/03/2017
And there's a sentence there: "מאז שנעצר מוחזק בן אוליאל בכלא השרון."
Which, if you translate means: "Since his arrest, Ben Uliel has been held in Hasharon Prison."
So, he wasn't set free, as you say. He is sitting deep in prison, and be sure, he WILL be convicted, and pay for what he did.
There will always be extremists. From both sides of the conflict.
Whether they are Jewish, Muslim, Israeli or Palestinian.
And you're welcome to believe what you wish.
But I can tell you without hesitation Israel is a very fair country. All of it's citizens have equal rights. Jews, Arabs, Christians, Ethiopians, Druze, gay people, you name it!
They can all vote, work as whatever they wish, including government, serve in the army, be on reality shows, buy land wherever they wish and as much as they wish, as long as it's possible.
      Religion doesn't matter here!
But Israel will always be nationalistically Jewish. (NOT religious)
Because it's important to remember why we fought for this land, and remember the people who suffered and sacrificed their lives so we'd live here today.
No propaganda will make me think otherwise!!
LOVE AND PEACE TO ALL WHO SEEK IT

You, sir, are very heavily misinformed. Simply typing in "IDF/Israeli soldier crime/beating up Palestinian children" or something along those lines on UA-cam will come up with more than enough results of video evidence that they do not, in fact, treat Palestinians the same way as Jewish people of their own country. These are war crimes. In plain sight. The only way you wouldn't see this is if your govt censored these webpages, to keep you in a bubble of propaganda that fits their political agenda.
A country 'more moral' than Israel???
I know a fair few - basically the vast, vast, VAST majority of other countries around the globe. As much as I respect Israeli people, human rights organizations and Jewish communities who strive for the best, for peace and for equal rights for both sides of the equation, the Israeli governments have only been digging a deeper grave for the whole country over the past few decades (especially in recent times).
When a govt self-proclaims to have "the most moral army in the world" and to be "the only democracy in the middle East", or to be "the best nation on the planet" (e.g. fascist states like North Korea), then it's most likely because they're using propaganda to brainwash their own people in order to hide the reality of facts.

    • @zivzan
      @zivzan 6 років тому +5

the legality of the settlements is a different issue, which i believe "Ferdinand Daratenas" above has done a great job explaining.
the argument you are referring to is a response to the claim that "the settlements are the obstacle to peace" which we hear a lot these days.
whoever claims this clearly has no knowledge about the history of the conflict.

    • @maxzak5310
      @maxzak5310 6 років тому +3

lets say one side starts eating other side babies , that obviously would be a big issue and fuel the conflict greatly .. .can we argue there was no peace before baby eating so it has nothing to do with the conflict ? this logic is just flawed
we dont live in the 60's anymore , today issues are different and settlements is a very big one
i the would say the biggest obstacle to peace and lets be honest israel would never give that land back

    • @zivzan
      @zivzan 6 років тому +1

you got it wrong, i didn't say that the settlements "have nothing to do with the conflict", rather that they are not the cause of it.
it is my belief and many others', that if you want to solve a problem you have to get down to its' cause. therefore, if israel would clear up the settlements tommorow there would still not be peace. so you may say that it is one of the issues but not THE issue.
the reason why there is no peace, is because the PA with both of it's leading parties Hamas and Fatah, do not recognize israel's right to exist under any border, 67 lines or other.
in english they speak about the settlements (the so called "occupation of 1967") but in arabic they say "the occupation of 1948" (the year israel was established), because it's much more palatable to western ears.

    2. Only the most idiotic ignoramus would deny that the Land of Israel (including the West Bank) was a Jewish country between 3000 and 2000 years ago. Thus in 1947 the nations of the world agreed for the Jewish people to reestablish this Jewish country on part of their ancestral land. In 1948 the Arabs attacked to destroy Israel's small portion and lost more land to Israel than the UN agreed to give them. Then in 1967 they (were about to) attack again, and once again they lost and Israel only reconquered its original land. It's that simple, someone attacks you and you conquer land that was yours, you took back that which was taken from you back then and you are entitled to keep it!

Approximately 60,000 Palestinian workers are employed in Israel, most of them in the construction industry and the rest in agriculture, services and industry.
Some 25,000 additional Palestinian workers are employed in the settlements, in the industrial and agricultural areas of the Jordan Valley.
Mishor Adumim is an industrial zone east of the Ma'aleh Adumim settlement. One of the characteristics of the industrial zone is the employment of Palestinian and Bedouin workers employed in Israeli-run factories, similar to other industrial zones in Judea and Samaria.
Following the BDS boycott of products originating in Israeli factories in Judea and Samaria, some of the factories in the industrial zone moved into the Green Line. For example, by 2015, the Soda Stream plant, which employed 1,100 workers, 850 of whom were Israeli Arabs and Palestinians, and 250 Jews, was transferred to the Negev. Needless to say, many of the Arab workers lost their jobs as a result.
many palestinians see the settlements as the source of their income, therefore i would not be surprised if they are opposed to the BDS (even if their govenment does not allow them to express these thoughts).

As a note from the first person in this video...one thing he didn't mention is that the reason there is a "refugee situation" among Palestinians is because many Palestinians in West bank and Gaza that had homes or land in Israeli areas effectively ran to the Arab nations that were attacking Israel in the 1948 war. They were not run out by Jews. In other words they were Deserters. This is why there are Arab citizens of Israel. This is why there are refugees. The Israeli Arabs are the Arabs and families that did not defect to the several dozen Arab armies attacking Israel in WAR. The refugees are the ones that left immediately following the creation of the Jewish state.
There are also Arabs in West bank who claim they had land in the Israeli territories that NEVER did. They are using the situation to their advantage by making themselves refugees when in reality their entire family had been in the West Bank prior to 1948. In other words, there are many Arab Families in West Bank and Gaza who are NOT refugees but claim to be.
