You are better than me brother I just discovered her exactly today and am in love, what an artist, if you have any time take a lom at my channel I've got some songs there.
This is a young woman who writes and performs her own music. She's a stunning singer and from her lyrics obviously also very wise. As well as managing to express her thoughts, she manages to express them with soft and exceptionally catchy music, also made by her. She has a rare and fragile voice. Her music and talent should be recognized much more than it is. We who have understood her greatness are blessed)
Ah, I listened to this song so many times in my early teens. My parents were hardcore drug addicts growing up. I was never taken away from them and was dragged along for the ride through the homeless shelters, drug deals, and evictions. I got little older and started to notice what was really going on. I found my moms meth pipe in the bathroom while I had friends over just to grab some clothes and leave. I went into her bedroom, shut her door, and just blew up on her. All she could do was sit up in her bed and not look at me, nor respond. I grabbed most of my things, turned on my desktop and blasted this song on repeat for her and left for good. I am 24 now, she is clean and lives in a different state. We talk every now and then. My dad got Hep C and HIV from the needles. Didn't take care of the Hep C, which turned into Cirrhosis and then liver disease. But my dad always tried, always. And I was never mad at him. He got clean much sooner and he was my best friend. My lifetime Best friend. We got along very well and took comfort in each others friendship daily. He was a fucking lovely person. He died when I was 21.
I hope you have a happy life, good relationship with your mother, and that you are proud of them and your self. Proud that you leaving them seemed to be what pushed them to get cleaned and succeed in doing so.
Very touched by your story. I wish you well, in all of your life's adventures. I know a number of wonderful people, who like you, have very similar childhood stories.
Maria has been around for awhile at least for several years now and it amazes me that she is still not all that well known. Her voice is by far the best I have ever heard and I have heard alot of great ones. This song is so powerful with its message. Hope she does a new album soon for she is awesome!!!
I heard her for the first time when she came to USA with the song "You're the Only One" and ever since then I've been hooked. I got to see her live ONCE but that was years ago and a small set, I want to see her with the new material! Europe you're lucky
Wow...Maria Mena must've been young as hell in this video. She looks like Aaliyah with tha hairstyle! It looks like this took place in 96' but '02! This song was strong, I looked her up and discography. I'm surprised the USA didn't see her as a surprise with "White turns Blue" it's sad. They ignored it on the commercials, she would've been bigger than Taylor Swift in america! But she's a great artist overseas, she has the voice and talent!
uff i'm listening to this song at the age of 16, the melody of this song just came randomly in my head. I always listened to her with my mom at the age of 7-9 and with this songs come so many memories... i'm crying. still amazing songs and a gorgeous woman! (sry 4 bad english)
this song makes me think of my mother who doesn't really feel like a mother anymore she has parinoid schizophrenia and I finally had enough courage to tell someone and get her help. she's in the hospital rn but is still in denial
my mom has that, too. but she won't take help and instead chooses to live homeless on the streets, with no phone or way to contact her because of the delusions she believes. she was so good before, and now, it's just sad. :/
Mom, please tell me what to do, I'm so disappointed in you You said those words that made me cry, And you always wondered why Why I sing my lullaby Mom, please hurry home to me, I waited up so patiently You sit down and you start to cry, But you never ask me why Why I sing my lullaby Why I sing my lullaby Was it my fault they lead you in the wrong direction? Was it my fault they didn't show you any affection? I show you when I start to cry Still you always wonder why Why I sing my lullaby Mom, why love me if you're cold You'll just get bitter then grow old Ask me when I start to weep Then I'll tell you in my sleep Why I sing my lullaby Why I sing my lullaby Why I sing my lullaby Why I sing my lullaby Why I sing my lullaby Why I sing my lullaby
She’s been signed. She’s from Norway, of a Norwegian mother, Nicaraguan father. When you posted this, she already had released 5 albums (6 if you include her American album White Turns Blue, which was a mixture of songs from her Mellow Album and a few rerecorded tracks from her debut album, this being one of them. Though, this is the Norwegian version of the song, not the rerecorded one). She’s released 8 albums already (9 if you count White Turns Blue)
Omg I've been searching for her for years.. I couldn't remember the last name! I started listening many many years ago. Shes changed this song quite a bit. But I'm down for it. I'm so happy I found her again! 🤯
This is the original version from her debut album. When she decided to try to crack American radio, she rerecorded several songs from her debut album (this one, Fragile/Free, Blame it on Me, and I forget what else), and put them on the us version of her Mellow album, and titled the album “White Turns Blue”.
Keine singt so gefühlvoll wie du, deine Stimme ist echt der Hammer! Du berührst mein Herz ♥ mit jedem Lied, deiner Stimme und deiner Art. Mach weiter so 😉
It's almost five o clock in the morning and I was thinking to long. Not geting happy. I wanted to hear a lullaby. She sings amazing. I hope I soon can sleep, I don't feel so alone any more! Really amazing.
Her voice is so good. I have become a fan now after stumbing upon one of her songs awhile back. :) To bad some of the songs seem only played in certain contries looks like the US will miss out on hearing those.
Mare Mena er en kraftig undervurdert artist, men nå til dags er det jo sånn at artister blir vurdert 70% etter hvordan de ser ut, 20% for hva de synger og 10% for hva som sies i teksten...
Yeah..She has songs in the vault! Songs like this are timeles! And she's only 27 now, imagine when she's in her late 30's! Imagine how many albums she'll have then :)
That what I was thinking exactly !!! her in the U.S nobody knows her or listen to her songs. Now that I discovered her she absolutely my new addiction..
Maria is awsome ^^ I dont understand why she has only 46,075 views, and only 70 likes D: She deserves more than that! I think the whole world should know abote Maria Mena ! she makes me provder of being an norwegian girl
Ouch because it hits the point. That such a young woman could write and perform such a deep feeling and meaniingful song is another wonder of womankind and Humanity and nature nurtured.
To my mummy. Your illness took you away from me, and I even though your physical self remained, and you continued through everyday, you weren't my mum anymore. I wish with every breath that I take that I could get you back even though I know I can't. I love you mummy, please stay, for me and for your son. Please?
aww… my parents had a very nasty divorce when I was 8. I really feel this song… and I actually used to sing myself to sleep for a while… till my mom told me to stop… … this song brings back so much memories…
If you're from the US you should know that she visited David Letterman show back in 2004 , she performed one of her songs but there was a problem with her voice , and she was nervous so the US release never happened.
I won't lie, when I first heard this song I thought she was being a selfish jerk, but I read the reason why she made it and I realize, I've been through a lot of the same things and I fell in love with her songs.
I can't believe I just discovered her today. Each song I've listened to so far from her today has spoken so strongly to me.
You are better than me brother I just discovered her exactly today and am in love, what an artist, if you have any time take a lom at my channel I've got some songs there.

I really do

@Cristina Voicu Bella I am glad she got away from that nightmare, but is she really a hero for not hitting the crack pipe?
Jackie Bell ur comment has me in tears
It's amazing to think she was only 16 when this song was released
Maria has been around for awhile at least for several years now and it amazes me that she is still not all that well known. in 2022 - still true
My biggest wish right now is to give a hug to this girl
SAME!!!!!! My dreammmmm
I feel that
I heard her for the first time when she came to USA with the song "You're the Only One" and ever since then I've been hooked. I got to see her live ONCE but that was years ago and a small set, I want to see her with the new material! Europe you're lucky
This song I have dedicated to my mom, finally finally something that allows me to put my feelings into words. Sad but true

she said in an interview that she does not want to be a celebrity as herself, but her music should be in focus - how it should be!
I've heard this song a while ago and this is my favorite one of hers. Her voice is just too angelic.
Great. Sincere. Amazing. Thank you.
Finally, someone w/ natural beauty and talent
uff i'm listening to this song at the age of 16, the melody of this song just came randomly in my head. I always listened to her with my mom at the age of 7-9 and with this songs come so many memories... i'm crying.
still amazing songs and a gorgeous woman!

Maria Mena has made the best emotional song about suffering and depression
this song makes me think of my mother who doesn't really feel like a mother anymore she has parinoid schizophrenia and I finally had enough courage to tell someone and get her help. she's in the hospital rn but is still in denial
my mom has that, too. but she won't take help and instead chooses to live homeless on the streets, with no phone or way to contact her because of the delusions she believes. she was so good before, and now, it's just sad. :/
Thanks for sharing depressing shit. We definitely needed to know.
+- Porscheeky - thanks for being an annoying prick that no one cares to f with :)
Kayla Jay I get your depression when you're that sensitive. Sad we got to deal with you people, makes the whole world sad tbh
+- Porscheeky - hurt people, hurt people so whats your deal?

This is song is so different from all the others she’s made. In my opinion, it’s her best.
Absolutely,rhp
Im from the U.S. and have been fan for a year....awesome voice and real music
I been a fan of her more than 5 years now! She definitely makes great music to be from outside the U.S.
I adore Maria's voice and all of her songs but I have never identified with a song more than this one.
It's beautiful
I literally used to cry my eyes out to this song in high school. I’m now 34 still crying cause my mom still makes me feel this way. That’s sad.
Mom, please tell me what to do,
I'm so disappointed in you
You said those words that made me cry,
And you always wondered why
Why I sing my lullaby
Mom, please hurry home to me,
I waited up so patiently
You sit down and you start to cry,
But you never ask me why
Why I sing my lullaby
Why I sing my lullaby
Was it my fault they lead you in the wrong direction?
Was it my fault they didn't show you any affection?
I show you when I start to cry
Still you always wonder why
Why I sing my lullaby
Mom, why love me if you're cold
You'll just get bitter then grow old
Ask me when I start to weep
Then I'll tell you in my sleep
Why I sing my lullaby
Why I sing my lullaby
Why I sing my lullaby
Why I sing my lullaby
Why I sing my lullaby
Why I sing my lullaby

I agree.. she wrote this song when she was 11! insane..she´s so good!
Lots of love from Canada!!
Great symbolism with the torn photos, since the song is about her parents divorce. Such a great musician.
Keine singt so gefühlvoll wie du, deine Stimme ist echt der Hammer! Du berührst mein Herz ♥ mit jedem Lied, deiner Stimme und deiner Art. Mach weiter so 😉
That's my lyfe ! Lov you Maria Mena ! ! ! !

She wrote this song in her teens. It was part of her journal entree thing.
She is that amazing.
To my mummy.
Your illness took you away from me, and I even though your physical self remained, and you continued through everyday, you weren't my mum anymore.
I wish with every breath that I take that I could get you back even though I know I can't.

She wrote this at only 13.
