Thank you so much! I am not a massage therapist but by watching you and your explanation and what to feel for, I was able to alleviate pain for my husband, who's been suffering for 3 months now
I've been a massage therapist now for 26 years and it is still so awesome to learn new amazing techniques from other practitioners. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise.
Marinda Mercer Oh dang, that's very heartening to hear, thank you! Sometimes I feel too new (at "only" 9 years) to be teaching, but I know that we all have something to share. Have you ever considered making massage tutorials? I have no idea why it's just me and like 5 other people doing it on here, but I'd happily give some pointers and promote your video once you were done (and that goes for anyone else reading this who feels like sharing their process or specific techniques). Anyway, thanks again!
Lovely tutorial. Anatomy was great. Very important for a LMT to be very knowledgable with anatomy. I have been a massage therapist for 18 years and I feel he would be a great teacher. Thank you so much.
I always love working on rotator cuff muscles to clients. Not so many people get massage on them. Fantastic warm up and genius way to get into subscapularis. Thank you for sharing.
Fully agree. I learnt the supine subscap treatment, which is very effective, but I find too invasive especially for new clients. This prone version works better for me.
I agree as a physio...It is a pity that physiotherapy schools focus too much in exercising and little focus on this kind of manual treatment and electrotherapy, in this case I mean Norway...I have lots of patients with pain, and they come to me after having been at other physio centers, because the majority og pysios put the patients in gymroom , machines or other exercising stufff... Yet it is important, but first of all it is important to relieve and let the muscles be ready for that kind of intervention :)
I recently had shoulder surgery and my scapula is so tight that it hampering my rang of motion. My physical therapist yanks on the medial border and pulls my scapula toward the ceiling. I wish they would get into the subscapularis the way you have showed here. I think it'd make a world of difference! I will definitely suggest this to them. I am also a massage therapist so thank you for this video so that I can help my clients better with their shoulder issues.
after 6 years practicing, ive recently been struggling with the mind set of hurting my clients. what you said in this video really helped me! thank you so much.
This is the best video I've seen so far with shoulder work! I love how you're actually using anatomical terms, and actually pointing to the muscles in the body. Tutorials are easier to follow when you say supraspinatus, rather than just point and say "right here".
Keep up the great work Ian! You are really helping a lot of you fellow therapist. I started watching you when I was a student. Now I look to you when I need ideas. Like today. Tomorrow I start bi weekly sessions on my 72 yr young mother who has had pain in her right shoulder for sometime now. I think these techniques could really help. Thank you. Peace.
Wow. You've taught me more in this one video about rotator cuff work than I've learned in one year of massage therapy school (taught by a veteran massotherapist)! Thank you for your time and dedication to teaching. I will certainly contribute via patreon because ...well because I will...what you give has much worth. And I agree, your humor is humorous 😊and we all learn more, absorb information better when we're smiling, I think. You have an intuitive way of seeing and treating the muscles, so cool. Happy New Year
Watching your vids every night before closing my eyes these days. Licensed now and at a beautiful Spa! 💖 Thank u for your instruction all these years .
Tried out some of these Rotator Cuff release techniques today on a client with anterior shoulder pain and generally stiff shoulders. Very keen now to get feedback because I felt the muscle texture change so much with this sequence. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Ian, my dad has had rotator cuff surgery twice on one side and once on the other. This video helped me know exactly how to get to the areas I was looking for. Love your stuff!
I’m definitely going to try these techniques in a little bit because I’m about to work on a client that only wants to lay prone the entire 50 Min on their BNS and they have frozen shoulder on their right side. Thank You Ian for your videos as always 😊
Can't wait to try this on my clients. You're right about how we're taught at school about addressing subscapularis. You have shown me a new way that can also help T. Minor at the same time. Thanks so much! Love the mobilisation at the end - lifting it up. I could feel the release.
Amazing Amazing, like you said in the beginning, the pain is in the front, been trying to heal myself for couple of weeks with no luck eventually when i reached the back area where all the real tension was, it made big difference to the front pain, thanks for the great knowledge share ideed
Aloha Ian! I really like when you do rotator cuff mobilizations that you don't (always) place the arm on the back. Many of my clients don't like that (including me when I receive a massage). It can be very uncomfortable, even painful, if one has trigger points or restricted movement because of tight muscles. Lots of good stuff can happen with just laying it next to body. Thanks so much. Another great tutorial. :)))
Very informative, easy to watch and listen. I am a student now and am sure I will continue watching your videos throughout my future career, thank you!!
This is seriously making me drool. I constantly have this pain on my shoulder and back and seeing her getting the proper massage, dang, wish i was her right now.
ian, so knowledgeable! I had a "more or less" understanding about the musclature and process around the scapula. this video helped fill inthe gaps of exactly what im doing and why. bravo sir!
I like your gently aproach in all your tutorials. I like the idea to stablish a dialog with the structures instead of pressing them to change. Thank you
Amazing videos! I studied complementary therapies at college in the UK and I don't think enough emphasis was put on learning about muscles. Your videos are helping me in my home studies no end. I can't wait to try out these new techniques, I've already used some from your other videos and they were highly praised. Thank you
Thank you Ian! I’m a newly licensed massage therapist and I want to make should work one of my niches. This tutorial was very well put together and looks like it feels amazing! I’m so excited to try it out tonight on my wife.
ohmygoodness. I need a back to practice this on! I love your deep, slow technique and it's super helpful to see where all the muscles are located on an actual body versus a chart. Thanks for the video!
I’m currently learning therapeutic massage, it’s an AMAZING journey! Thank you so much for sharing your techniques with the world very informative and motivating.
OMG this is exactly what i need. Massage and chiro and tp injections for years. I have 2 shoulder impingements and now I know y. I always have tp's knots in the teres minor, infraspanatius muscles. This looks great the way your roll across like this. need to find someone who does this fascia work
When they told me in school that your classmates and tradeoff partners would vanish over time, I hoped it was a lie but unfortunately it wasn't. I see your techniques and see my techniques, It's bitter sweet, keep up the awesome work.
Hi Ian, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge! I love the way you explain how you do things. Very structured and clear; I like that. I think you would be a great techer. Best wishes from holland :-)
ive seen alot of massage videos, and i have to say this one is by far one of the most professional ones ive seen, you have personality but yet you still stick to the subject, keep up the good work, athena jezik and yourself are my fave massage therapist on you tube :) keep the vids coming!
The way you access subscap is phenomenal & im going to use your method today on a woman coming in with frozen shoulder. I often do Myofascial work on the teres area with my palm, standing from the opposite side of the client & they get an amazing sense of relief, but this is great. I really think this will help a lot. Thank you for your knowledge. Kristina, LMT
That was a GREAT video!! I am a massage therapist who is always looking for new ways to alleviate shoulder pain. New techniques and twerks to add to my flow. Shoulder pain is a biggie in our field. You just gave me super good fun stuff to try out on my family first, then my clients. ;) I liked the Sub-Scap work you showed. I have always worked at the Sub-Scap while the client is supine. This seems like a cool new way to try. I love your humble style. Thank You for the video.
I really love all your videos. You have a wonderful way of aprouching the body. I would like to see you in a video massaging a larger client. I also would like to see you massaging a hairy man. And lastley, I would like to see a video of you massaging a person that has those folds and wrinkles in the lower portion of the back. I also like to use long slow gliding strokes, but it is difficult to do so on people I mentioned above, it's much easier to do so on smaller women with no hair. I challenge you to video all three examples; Back massage on a Hairy man, Back massage on a person with sway-back/wrinkles, Back massage on a large person. Go for it!
Great video!!!!! Love these Scap techniques.....I like palpating of subs cap while in prone....supine does feel a little invasive ...great to have options!!
Bruce Allred same here, I work at a physical therapy facility and they are like concrete or already injured. Just have to tell them to be patient on the treatment, cause although myofascial is slow, it's a long term fix. For the first session, I know they don't believe me, but when they come back they are very surprised at what relief they get with very little soreness or pain.
+JPod Right on! If there are any topics you'd like to see me cover, it's always helpful to hear from the massage students in the audience. It's been a while for me, so I can't always remember what would be relevant to you. Thanks!
Excellent tutorial professor Sloth :) would love to see you work with older adult male or female with less volume of adipose and many bony landmark; every stroke I have to be mindful in which create a concert of traffic, please show the path my sherpa sloth. ♨️
Great videos man, these help a lot, i'm currently doing this in my course and your techniques are slow paced, great commentary and your palpation methods help me a lot. Im now a subscriber and look forward to viewing your other vids.

Excellent and you are correct , a lot of pain indicates to me that the bones associated with the shoulder are indeed subluxed , clavicle, acrominium, 1-3 t ribs out .along with humerus all he way down to radius and ulna. Good massage

Marinda with that experience, you should probably write a book. Will be interesting.
Lovely tutorial. Anatomy was great. Very important for a LMT to be very knowledgable with anatomy.
I have been a massage therapist for 18 years and I feel he would be a great teacher. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your sharing. I've been a massage therapist just more than a year. My hands are sore, is there any thing wrong???? Please help!!!
I'm currently in massage school, geeking on Kinesology and watching your videos. LOVE, thank you!

Worth a second watch. Always nice to learn a bit more. Your dialogue is slow and your knowledge is extensive. It makes for a great tutorial. Mahalo!
Very informative, easy to watch and listen. I am a student now and am sure I will continue watching your videos throughout my future career, thank you!!
I just got out of school so I am still learning some techniques. Thanks for your videos they help so much.

Dude, this is hard work... people rarely realise that. Love the last move, looks good.
Thanksss! U are by far my favourite massage teacher on youtube. I will keep coming back!!!

fantastic video explained at a great pace, really learnt a lot
This video is right on time!! I love your work, and videos!!
Great technique, and your model was very pliable. Some of the people I work on are so tight so the scapula hardly moves. Great video, Thanks

Some really useful technique there, thanks.
:)
I have to try this and also adapt to chair massage. Thank you for sharing.
Great tutorial.... one of the best I've seen...
Your video tutorials are so helpful in giving step by step instructions wish we could have THIS type of hands on training in sxhool vs a flat page in a text book memorizing attachments origins and insertions... Thank you for taking the time to teach your knowledge
This is good, really working with the anatomy, I’ve subscribed 👍
