Probably the best RL channel that I've started following since sunlesskhans "why you suck at rocket league" series. Thanks for putting in the time for us hard stuck rocketeers
I’ve been wanting to do this for years I just didn’t have the motivation until now! I didn’t really see high level players going in as much depth as possible so I wanted to provide that information to the entire community. Thank you for watching!
@@JoshBoomaYea, a lot of high level players dont know how to communicate their choices very well since their understanding is mostly subconscious. You are doing a very good job at peeling the layers of what you are actually thinking. Love your videos, keep it up!
Great info and showcasing. I only struggle because as a long time player I understand a good majority of the information, but the difficulty of ranking up often is due to the bizarre variety of skill within a window of the slightly upper ranks. C2-GC features a slew of combinations from the following; SSL smurfs, GC smurfs, mechanical 1s players with zero game sense leading to confusing/hard to read plays, players that can do a ceiling flip reset double tap into the upper corner one moment, then complete whiff a simple touch or pass seconds later breaking the overall game flow not knowing when the player will be squishy or my dead grandpa playing the game. Even some lower rank smurfs show up, and the pain of solo queue is wild, its doable to solo to SSL obviously, but it's a struggle for the non pro to sift through all of the inflated egos and toxicity of the player base. I long to get to upper GC/SSL where the game is a lot more consistent and in a way predictable, you can properly respect your opponents to make dangerous touches, your mistakes are more obvious and easy to work on as the chance to get scored on is blaringly higher. Anyway, end rant, great vid
I can tell you right now this is so relatable on so many levels. My most recent video actually addresses the real issue of why these things happen. But to be brutally honest with you, if you’re playing for “dangerous touches” or expecting players to hit things every time then you’re only playing for one scenario rather than multiple. With that being said people still whiff the ball in SSL. It happens to everyone because no one is perfect it really matters who is the player who’s playing in the spot to not only expect the touch but expect the whiff. Trust me brother if you don’t laser focus on what your opponents are doing you’ll be way better off trust me. It’s so much more rewarding when you carry yourself out the rank you don’t want to be in. I personally only wanted to play vs pro players back in the day and so I grinded until I was that much better so I could compete with pros
@@JoshBooma "Trust me brother if you don’t laser focus on what your opponents are doing you’ll be way better off trust me" I have honestly yet to attempt this path of thought and will take it into serious consideration, that actually weirdly makes a lot of sense, because I DO focus a ton on my awareness of the field and should probably tone it down a bit as it's taking away from the thought processes of what I need to do as a player. Being too conservative can cause issues itself that is fair
@@BallisticAero you can still keep that field and special awareness like maintain tabs on all players around the field but do not expect things from them. Focus on your own positioning and decision making so when whiffs or bad touches happen which they will, you can be the difference and be there to punish
19:07 as someone in c3 and solo qs i find myself in this situation so often and feel that even if i try and challenge it never works and they get it past me with a flick it’s so annoying
That usually means you’re picking the incorrect time to challenge. If the player has control or is threatening a flick then most likely you’re already too late to challenge it or you shouldn’t challenge it. Either you are forced to make the save or you buy time for your teammate to come cut it for you
Bro, what? You only just broke 1k subs? You're fantastic at explaining the situation in ways that transcend skill level. Great stuff; hope you keep going all year. Cheers.
I’m relatively new ~300 hours and just hit champ. Finding this channel has been awesome because I thought I’d figured the game out and really I just finished the tutorial 😂.
Yessirrr Champ is when the game REALLY opens up to the possibilities of what’s actually do-able with the car & its really where you can start to elevate your gameplay to the next lebel
Great content, it’s exactly what’s needed. I’m a 3s player and struggling in 2s at the moment, I’m sure like you said, I have to play more games to adapt. It’s nice that you mentioned the flip cancel cause it doesn’t get talked about much. It’s time I start using them cause I miss double taps cause I’m going too fast after a flip.
I am a streamer ya know, feel free to watch me live. Also these videos are meant to help anyone who struggles with that skill. Sure anyone could breakdown a replay, but understanding the game sense that should be applied in each situation is important for players who are trying to improve.
16:51 I don't know about that. You only consider 2 main categories but I also do see A LOT of players who are neither of those but would fit into the category of being out of the play cause they go for boost at the wrong moments or rotate wide to take small boosts when the pace of the game in that situation does not allow for it. I get put in consecutive 1v2 cause of this kind of teammates quite often. Most of the time I can cope with a 1v2 situation if I am only required to do it once, I just have to recognize it fast and try to choose the best option available. But the issue is that after I get put in a 1v2 the teammate doesn't even rotate back as fast as possible cause they go for small boost paths that make him rotate wider or they straight up goes for the big boosts at the corner that massively increase the amount of time they take to get back in defense with me, so I have to deal with that 1v2 not for "1 tempo" and then have the time to recover and save again, I literally have to do a save after another by myself. There are a considerable amount of times where at least once per game leave you will be put in this situation and it could have been avoided by your teammate even after he left you in a 1v2 if he simply focused on recovering fast towards net instead of taking the boost on the way back. Cause at the end of the day that boost is useless if you get scored on, you're far better off if you get scored on cause you have no boost than if you get scored on cause you were completely outside of the play in order to grab boost.
I completely understand where you're coming from but I address this in one of the recent videos of that type of situation WILL HAPPEN regardless simply because the game lacks structure. There's nothing within the game that tells your teammate that going for boost in that situation is the wrong decision unless you concede the goal. This is something that will continue to happen until players finally learn. With that being said it will be an endless cycle so in your situation you need to nip that situation at the root of the problem. I can almost guarantee if you go into your replay there's something you could have done in a play before that to prevent that situation from happening in the first place this is where the concept of damage control can be applied. If you have seen the pattern recognition of that exact play and your struggle is when the 1v2 happens consecutively this tells me most likely the clear wasn't efficient enough if the other team gained another possession from it. So in terms of giving advice here I'd say focus on what you can control because no matter what rank you will play at those 2v1s will happen. In the bigger picture that's the exact way 2v2 should be played. There should be an efficient outplay/beat/bait that takes one player out of the play then you isolate the player left alone. It's truly up to the last defender and the player to both do their part. The defender holding it down, the player who OC to recover and get back to help. Without this balance and flow there will be nothing but a mess.
By chance do you do coaching at all? I completely understand if not because there are a lot of complications that come with that type of thing. But if you do let me know because I’ve been hard stuck Diamond for around 2,000 hours at this point lmao.
I need help. I feel like I am getting better at the game. I am currently on a gc1 rated college rl team. I am getting faster and my mechs are there ( still not that great ) but I'm improving noticably. However, I am losing more now than I was before I started doing my warm up and before I felt faster at the game. My warm up is 10 min rings, 10 min dribble, 10 min w/o ball freeplay then 20 min with ball freeplay. Then I queue. I get the shittiest teammates fathomable, ill have around 4-5 goals, and I still lose. I was c3 for the last couple seasons and now I'm c1. Anything you could tell me about this would help immensely.
Hey not everyone does bro! When I was grinding for SSL I was a full time employee & full time college student. It really depends on how you use your time wisely in this game especially if you train with purpose
@@JoshBooma grinding for SSL while fully employed + full time studying is impressive man, great job! im an unemployed full time student and due to unoptimized time management i sometimes struggle, so I can't imagine adding 40 hours of work weekly :D
Someone actually asked this on stream yesterday. Flakes style is very viable even in today’s game. The issue is you have to understand why and when he does the things that he does. That play style is very low risk (not flipping on challs so you don’t throw yourself out the play, & maximizing offensive opportunities in the simplest way stripped of mechanics) but even what flakes does requires high level game sense. I’ve seen tons of people attempt to replicate it but fail because of the pacing. Slow driving will get you taken advantage of in today’s game so these things have to be executed at a certain pace.
@@JoshBoomathat's spot on, it's the pitfall many people, including myself fall into. It takes a lot of finesse to play like he does. I tend to get too passive and slow but I still prefer it over ball chasing and overcommitting. I am mid champ.
@@chrisziogaming oh 100% the thing is you can definitely play the lower risk and damage mitigation at pace and I can even give a whole video dedicated to this as well if you’d like!
@@JoshBoomaThat would be video I would looking forward to see. The topic is actually not covered that well on youtube. Flakes and Aircharged tell people to play passive and slow, but people really don't get the gist of it that well resulting in slow undecisive passive players at least in mid champ. I also don't know how to play with teammates like that. I get that you need to be the more aggressive player but you can't rely on them to give proper backup either, a bit of a paradox for me what to do.
