@@rjjcms1 Incorrect about last world cup using 2 points, this went on even into Italia 1990...it was USA 94 which was the first to use 3 points a win
@@jonblazeinc Oh yes, you're right. My bad. I don't know why I forgot that, having watched all of those World Cups at the time 😖.
@@rjjcms1 haha its OK mate , it was a long time ago mate not gonna remember everything, I get confused more now I'm middle aged sometimes forget why I went upstairs to fetch something 😀
@@jonblazeinc 😂 Same here! I put it down to all the clutter we collect,in our heads as well as in our homes, through the years.
I was 17 then, full of excitement and hope ... I am 58 now, my excitement is fading although I still have hope!
I'm 49 and I possess neither hope nor excitement Dave.
However, I endorse your sentiments regarding youthful age.
Paul Mariner RIP
Thanks for the memories
Attack, attack, attack, full speed ahead, not passing the ball back and forth on the midfield trying to break through a wall of ten defenders like today.
What a brave player Bryan Robson was.
Най добрия футбол завинаги❤
I was there, aged 18. Went on the train!
Glen Hoddle should have started along side Ray Wilkins, Bryan Robson and Steve Coppell in midfield instead of Graham Rix. Glenn Hoddle was the most gifted English player of all time. I already had a Glen Hoddle 1982 World Cup jersey and I just picked up Bryan Robson red 1982 World Cup Jersey. Captain Marvel. I was ten years old and I was absolutely mesmerizing by 1982 World Cup. England, France, Brazil, West Germany, Italy and Argentina teams made this the best World Cup.
Unfortunately, Glennoddoh had no pace, couldn’t tackle and was bad for team spirit: none of the other players could stand him.
Brooking was coming back from injury, but he would only be fit enough for one substitute appearance in the second group phase game vs Spain. Rix was a reasonable replacement level player at international level, but definitely not as creative as either Brooking or Hoddle.
@@robertcottam8824 Correct. I think he is a somewhat tragic figure because although undoubtedly supremely talented technically, he played as though his job was to wait until someone else gave him the ball, when he would do his stuff. Hoddle never came to terms, for whatever reason, with the fact that in the game as it was played, the individual had to fight for the right to express his skill but he wasn’t the kind of player who would go back and get mixed up in the rough and tumble to get it for himself as a really good player would. That takes character and a high degree of stamina and he had neither. In his defence there were other players around his era that didn't like the rough and tumble like Michel Platini but they were able to impose themselves on the game when required. Hoddle could never have done what Platini did for France in 1984. His big chance was the 1986 World Cup and that was a personal disaster for him.
Same here...I was totally absorbed at 8 years old..i recall getting a World Cup poster and magazine for the tourney and i was just so thrilled..The issue of Hoddle is interesting...Rix was an excellent player but in the key game against Spain, Hoddle should have been played in the middle with Francis on top, Brooking on the right and Woodcock behind say Francis..England never had the chance to get to a semi like they did in 1982 and threw it away, Spain were already out...
Muito bom para quem não assistiu essa Copa 82 na época ⚽
Met Bryan in the Isle of Man in 83 he showed us the watch for the fastest goal in the World Cup.
revenge after 40 years 😎
What a terrible defence of the French: the first two goals were scored by completely unmarked players, and the third was a kind gift by the defender.
You could argue the first one was a howler from the GK as well.
2nd goal was no gift: Robson ghosted the defence and scored a brilliant header.
cantik gol pertama bryan robson..
Ótimo vídeo!!!!!! Continue trazendo a história das Copas do Mundo em vídeo. Favor trazer resumos de França e Inglaterra contra Kuweit e Tchecoslováquia na fase de grupos da Copa do Mundo 1982
Here waiting for another England-France, the third in World Cup history.
England had a very good side in this world cup but their problem was they drew too many games and turned out they were a team of good individual players who flattered to decieve shame really ,should have gone far in this w.c. but as always it's the same old story with England..
They did draw too many games for their own good but the favourites Brazil's shock exit to Italy left England as one of the last five teams still standing in this World Cup!
Already the subject of the then-most-expensive transfer in English football,Bryan Robson became an internationally-renowned star overnight for his exploits in this World Cup. Along with Kevin Keegan,it was his name that was brought up first by people whenever I went abroad when turning to the subject of English football in those times.
Actually, England's problem was scoring goals. Goals 1 & 3 in the France game was from sloppy defending, both goals against Czechoslovakia were gifts (1st goal in particular), and no goals in either the West Germany or Spain games.
Leaving just the Robson header and the one goal against Kuwait, from a total of 5 games
@@Adam-pu6jg What Ron Greenwood needed was the type of attacking players he produced at West Ham like Peters and Hurst and the tragedy for him was the clubs did not produce them for him. In the 1982 World Cup when he needed deputies for Keegan and Brooking, they were not there.
@Ruda-n4h I don't think Greenwood was a good manager and by this time, was way past it.
With the players to choose from, he could have played a system that suited those players rather than the same staid way.
Southgate was the new Greenwood.
Staid. Safe. Boring. Sterile. Boring. Turgid. Boring.
Did I say Southgate was Boring?
À mon avis c'était la dernière victoire des anglais face aux Français et depuis les bleus sont devenus la bête noire des anglais
Best World Cup ever IMO.
The only World Cup were Robson was not injured.
At this period, the French lacked yet experience at high level. The English played in strong teams (Villa, Forest, Liverpool, Tottenham, Ipswich...)
England never lost a game in this world cup but still not good enough to progress to the semis
Missed a fit Keegan and Brooking
Same old story.
Also England only conceded just once in the whole tournament
What a squad this was
1982 England 3-1 France
2018 France 7-1 England
Two world cup meetings in 36 years, totally opposite results

Football was just terrible back then! Hoofing the ball around.
Seemed like France were all over us in the first half.
Boiling hot day, France having earlier decided to wear their white change strip and force England into their red shirts - but England had the last laugh.
They were a bloody good side as well
Francia jugaba sin arquero. Que malo era ese tipo. Inglaterra gano con toda justicia.
Was better Joel Bats
Why did the officials look like geriatric old men in those days?
That was time when truly international football was having meaning
