When in a vehicle your perspective is shifted to outside the vehicle, it's not First person (Obviously) so when you place the camera on his head to see where he's looking, you arnt even close, it should be placed above the vehicle slightly to the back. But you must also keep in mind that when he stops driving he has a 360° veiw around the vehicle without moving his character. And that perspective is then shifted again. So point is.
