      It looks like they might be for the brake mechanism? Or tensioning?

    Thanks for the very clear instructions and video makes it easy to follow the steps, this is the best video I'm seen on this so far.
    The bellows help to keep the correct tension on the tape so they don't need to be pulled tight when you stop the tape.
    This is due to the breaks which don't stop the reels by themselves the DC motors help a little by applying reverse direction as well.

    What do you think about silicon spray on them to prevent cracking/ drying up ?

    I really appreciate these videos as hands-on tutorials for repairing my decks ... but I have to say - I would MUCH prefer a dialog of what you are doing, why, problems or issues - etc. instead of the music ... please ... I run these silent and record MY problems as the sound track so that I have a reference for the next time.
    Good videos - just don't need the distraction..

      thanks for the comment. not sure my babbling mumble would help much so silent may be the way to go.
