Oh my gosh! I love the tips you’ve provided. I will try this out with my son and I really hope this helps him with his coloring whenever he is in school. I want to help him advance in things at home while he is also being taught at school. Thank you!!
I dont know how i stumbled accross your channel but thank goodnes!!!! We watched your how to hold a pencil video and wow!!!! You have eliminated so many tears and frustration! Xoxo
That makes me SO happy, Dina! Thank you so much! Comments like these remind me why I do these videos in the first place and motivate me to keep making videos :) -Dana
I used your technique with my granddaughter. When she went to the library's story time, she colored in the lines. She's 3 year old. Thanks for your help.
My colleague is having trouble with coloring inside the lines, hopefully this video helps her out and brings out her creativity. I really believe in her art and she's a great artist, just wish she would practice these idioms. Thank you so much for this video.
Woah, I really hope things work out for this person. Sounds like you're a great guy! Hope things workout for this artist you talk so highly about! Cheers!
Awesome work Dana! Thank you for your kindness in teaching us cool tips on how to make our kids learn to color between the lines! Thanks again, keep up the good work! WELL DONE!
@@TheOTGuide My kid knows to color within the border and also now coloring by lying on her tummy. With the info you provided I watched her closely how she holds the crayon while coloring and I am happy she doesnot uses her whole arm to color. Thank you
These are really great tips .. I was searching for some tips but didn't think that I would find a good and clear answer. Thanks I have to try them tomorrow.
@TheOTGuide This actually worked. He now understands when I tell him to color inside the lines. He still needs practice, but he gets the concept better. Thank you so much . I used a black crayon to do the outline. Thank you so much.
Great video. Could you do a video on teaching perspective? At tea parties my youngest daughter pretends to be whoever she is talking to instead of who she's holding. My eldest naturally picked this up, but my youngest appears to need more help.
Hey Vincent! Thanks for the kind comment. Shoot me an email at TheOTGuide@gmail.com to give me some more information about your daughter and the kind of video you're looking for :)
Hi I'm struggling to get my 4 year old to color in lines.. his preschool teacher is not showing him it this way... What she's doing is using coloring books an when I look at videos she sends to me it looks like he's trying but his hand looks like it hurts and he's uncomfortable. Will definitely try this method with him.
Hi Donnelle! Thanks for reaching out! Coloring inside the lines takes lots of time, effort, and energy - your son will get it with time. Let me know if you have any specific questions and enjoy your day :) -Dana
@@TheOTGuide thanks.. im wondering is I'm pushing him too hard. He will be 5 next year april and only recently started back preschool.. im hoping he gets it soon.. I started practicing with your technique today
@@donnellesaunders1712 Let me know how it goes and if the technique helps him! Remember the MOST important thing is that your son has fun while he colors so he's motivated to keep coloring!
Can you please make an adult-specific version please-- this was super helpful but I'm still having a bit of trouble with more detailed shapes like triangles or higher-level synthesis-heavy shapes like circles. Kind regards Ivan
I am ready to go home to try. If we can't get our soon to be 3 yo on this he won't be allowed to go into PK4 at the private school. (1 of three things behind they will require)
Hi there! My apologies for the delay, I hope this video was helpful! Let me know if you have any other questions. That is WILD that your private school requires a 2-3 year old to be able to color inside the lines...I have never heard of that!
What age range would be the most receptive to start teaching this skill? You say preschool/toddler, but that is pretty broad. At what age should your child be able to do this?
Hey Kaila! Great question. Children should aim to get practice with this skill as early as possible, I'd say between 3-4, and will continue to hone this skill in school! Many kids get proficient coloring inside the lines by Kinder, however it's definitely a very broad range since every child develops at their own unique pace. I work with first graders and second graders who continue to struggle with this skill. The more practice, the better! (Except try not to harp on it, we don't want our kids to associate coloring with work!) Thank you for your question!
I am trying your suggestions. My 5 yr old little one with an extra chromosome is only doodling circles and is not interested in coloring all of a picture. Not sure what to do.
@TheOTGuide Hi! So my daughter is still coloring in circles. She started coloring this way the summer of 2022. Not sure why, but maybe she thinks she is good at it. She is now 7. She can extend her stroke side to side and up and down but only when prompted.
I have a 6 year old who doesnt like to colour in the lines - she kind of does scribble colouring - she wants to do it really fast almost like its a chore and doesnt cut out neatly as well - I dont know what to do to help - its almost as if she cant be bothered with colouring carefully. She also is having trouble with cutting. She is being negatively scored by this - how do I get her to want to be more precise with her colouring and cutting?
Hi and my apologies for the delay! Thanks for reaching out! It's not uncommon for 6-year-olds to show varying preferences and skills in coloring and cutting. Scribble coloring and less precise cutting are part of the learning process, and it's not something to be worried about in itself. To encourage more precision, try turning these activities into fun games. Use coloring books with larger outlines, stickers, or stencils for an enjoyable experience. For cutting, start with simple shapes and use safety scissors designed for kids. Positive reinforcement is key-praise her efforts and celebrate small achievements. If concerns persist, consulting with an occupational therapist could provide personalized strategies. Remember, every child develops at their own pace. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I hope this helps!!
Hey there, that's super common! Especially at that age. I often have to prompt my students to color in the whole picture and get rid of all the white spots :) -Dana
