I could not take my eyes off of watching you speak-but I had to when I needed captions- and was mesmerised by your speaking voice, how thoughtful you were, so descriptive of your concerns at each stage, your overall respect for the mountain itself, your acknowledgement of the multitudes of dangers you all faced climbing. Then I have to rave about the videography and editing. Masterful. Fantastic angles of capture...panoramic, sweeping, POV footage that is priceless in its immediacy of your climb and thrilling to no end. That you all escaped is fortunate, but the confidence and elite abilities you all displayed tells me you deserve the pure success of the achievement.. This route is even deadlier than k2
      The common route in everest is much easier and safer

      I just fulfill my hobby by watching different vlogs who reached there bcz I have not much money and besides not have that level of health in age of 45, though if I count it in dollars or Euros in my Currency, it just needed on 1000 dollars with luxury style to go there and coming back home.

      Imagine being Bob House back in 1939 first climbing that totally exposed with no fixed ropes. K2 was an American mountain for years. 50% of all climbs were American until the Italians summited with their massive expedition which is still controversial. Really the Americans should summited twice by then if not for unbelievably bad luck. The English were obsessed with Everest, the Americans were obsessed with K2, and the Germans were obsessed with everything. That global competition that would lead to another world war also included mountaineering.
      Charles Houston of early K2 fame was also the same guy who first got through the icefall at Everest to lay eyes on the Lhotse face. Nobody had ever seen it before and nobody knew if Everest was climbable from what is now the most popular route. Hillary and Tenzing would use that route a year later knowing that it was possible only because of Houston.

      Eva Bergant depends, there are much harder routes up Everest than this one up k2, it's when compared to the south col route on Everest which is much easier than the easiest route on k2. The west ridge and hornbein couloir route on Everest has had more deaths than summiteers. The northeast ridge, kangshung face, west ridge direct and all southwest face routes are very hard and rival pretty much anything on k2.

    • @Ebby-lu3cy
      @Ebby-lu3cy 6 років тому +10

      Lewis Taylor if it was comparably easier, it'd be just as commercialized. There have been expeditions up the other routes of Everest. The drastically few who summit K2 is great evidence despite lower elevation than Everest. Everest has been described by those who summit both as a glaciated albeit verticals (@ parts) hill, whereas K2 is a beast of technicality that Sherpas cannot help you up or down. It is by your own skill that you survive or die. Now, rich ppl in decent shape climb Everest. Not to take anything away from it....but K2 is a beast.

    Thank you @Ironcam. You actually have to re-fix the entire route every year as it is generally not safe to re-use old ropes and you have to check every anchor regularly. Even during the same season, you may have to replace Korean ropes because of the abrasion on the rocks, in particular the ropes below camp 2 which are the most used. For the House chimney, we used a good quality 8mm rope brought by one of our member, Jeff Rao, who was tragically killed on Nanga. When you rappel down the mountain, you have to check the rope you are using is a new rope and ensure that there is only one member on each section of the rope. Unfortunately there are a lot of old ropes, even ladders which stay on the mountain and you have to be very careful while descending. The advantage of fixed ropes is that it took us only 10 hours to rappel down from the shoulder 7800m to 5200m and the conditions were quite safe on the Black Pyramid with no rockfalls.

    • @FabriceImparato
      @FabriceImparato  10 років тому +21

      ironcam Yes we did carry down all our high altitude tents. For the summit push, myself and Dawa Chhiri were carrying my personal Mountain Hardware EV3 tent we used in camp 3 and 4 and we also used a common tent in camp 2 which was also brought down. Given the cost of a good HA tent and environmental concerns, climbers will do their best effort to bring down the tents. There are 2 exceptions 1) Bad weather prevents to dismantle the tent at the end of the season, for example the ones camp 2 left for a summit push that never happen and 2) Climbers go missing or retreat quickly to save their life. In 2009, during our attempt on the Cesen route, we did see half broken tents used by members who died the year before. A tragic reminder of the deadly summer of 2008.
