Great series! I am glad you have decided to tackle this amazing (but daunting) game. It is a little too complicated to easily convey the intricacies. It is also a very difficult game to master.
If I may, here are a few ideas that may help:
- Combat is simultaneous - if they aren't trying to Escape, monsters still get to attack one more time "after" they die, as "they were still... alive when they died... :) and went down fighting".
- AV does not change immediately after you kill one or more of the Pack. The current Pack-boosted AV value "sticks around" for one more enemy attack (the same as above - you and the enemies attack "at the same time") for the current combat round. Only during the next combat round will the enemy AV be reduced, because the number of enemies left in the Pack is counted only at the beginning of a new combat round.
- An enemy with I/W/P rewards for Kill allows for a roll on only one of these tables after it is defeated (i.e. you cannot get one Item, one Weapon and one Part - you have to choose one). Please check the rules, but I believe this is how it works (a "/" means "or", not "and" in D100 Dungeon).
- Here is the complicated bit: :) Rolling a 10 or less on any Skill test (even a failed one) allows you to shade one pip on the Characteristic involved (STR, DEX or INT) or two pips on any of the Skills involved. For example, any Test of STR + Strong, or INT + Aware, or any combination [CHA]+[Skill(s)], with a D100 roll of
Great list, thanks! I missed the "found stuff is always damaged" rule. :)
Excellent gameplay! Those Giant Rats get really annoying, but at least you can add them to the Combat Tracker to gain the periodic permanent increases to characteristics and skills.
Regarding backtracking, you still need to follow the normal turn sequence for each room (move down on the time track, choose exit, skip drawing a new area, go to previously explored room, move on the time track, spend oil or check for wandering monsters, etc).
Don't forget to add the monsters to your combat sheet. There are addition rewards you might be missing.
I've been tracking it... just keep forgetting to share it.
This dungeon is where the piper got all the rats from invading villages went (before he decided to kidnap the children as punishment from the villages greed), lol.
Agreed. Too. Many. Rats.
Thanks, I enjoy watching your playthrough! You gave me the nudge to start my own game, too. :)
I think I will house-tule the encounter modifier a bit (I'm on the 2nd mission, and with a -30 modifier, I encounter rats about 40% of the time and I'm tired of it) : do not apply the modifier of it would lower the result under 0. It's simple and will inject a bit of variety without making the quest much more challenging.
Yeah, I'm thinking about just marching up the card order, easiest to hardest.
@@thetabletopengineerplays I'll see it in action next time! :)
In Book 2, there's a new rule you can use to avoid the exact situation where you punch through hundreds of rats looking for three pieces of armor, etc. Basically, less than 0 it says: "Scoring 0, or less: Roll 2d10+15 and look up the result on the current encounter table." It has another one for later dungeons where people get stuck having the encounter constantly adjusted to above 100.
@@DougBolden Yes, I saw that. I thik my house-rule is faster and very similar, statistically speaking.
I suppose that you decided to shelve this game (and it's fine, of course!), but I want to let you know that I'd love to see more of it :)
Still playing - just had to re-examine how I am doing video. Videos resume next week.
@@thetabletopengineerplays Oh, great!
