- In this video, "Starnett Version 2 Is Here! How To Install and Run on a Mac/Astrophotography Tutorial with L Commands",
my good friend Dave Green covers everything you need to know in order to get the new Version of Starnett installed and working on a Mac Computer..
There are literally no others videos covering this specific topic, so here it is...
Alot of trial And error and many headaches went into figuring this out, and this is what he came up with, so helpfully this video can help speed that process up for others... Thank You Dave Green!!
Clear Skies Everyone!!
here is a link to the Starnett V2 download
starnetastro.com/
Here are the L Commands that you can copy and paste:
chmod +x ./run_starnet.sh
chmod +x ./starnet++
chmod +x ./libtensorflow_framework.2.dylib
chmod +x ./libtensorflow.2.dylib
chmod +x ./starnet2_weights.pb
This is the first tutorial ive ever done in my life that worked first try and covered all possible issues. Legend.
Thanks Caleb! 😊
Thanks, this was super helpful. I'm a Masters in CS and I'm learning from you. Good stuff.
I have spent hours / days searching and asking questions about using Starnet++ on a MAC. It's possible I just didn't understand what the variety of sources were telling me, but I was lost. I came across your video, followed it closely, and it worked!!!! Thank you for taking the time to create and post it!
I got it to work on my Mac. I've recently started with astrophotography. It's a different beast haha. Thank you very much!! Clear skies!!
Thanks a Million Dave for this tutorial for starnet ++ on Mac it has helped me a ton
Thanks for helping me a lot for the installation.
This was super helpful, I couldn't figure this out. Thanks a lot mate, well explained to a noob like me 👌
Thanks for the tips. I finally got it working with your help!
Thank you, sir! Never thought I got Starnet to work!
Hello, thank you from Japan. I could install and run Starnet++ v2.0. on my Mac.
Thank you mate, this was super helpful and saved me from spending hours trying to figure out the solution. You sir are no dummy :)
Very helpful! Thanks for the insight. One thing I had to change (MacOS Ventura 13.5.1) was to allow applications from App Store and not App Store and identified developers. Before I changed this security settings, I was not able to upload the run file. Hope this helps someone. Cheers.
how can you do that, im stuck in this step
Seriously, most helpful video ever
Thank you so much for this. It was exactly what I needed, and it worked like a charm. Much appreciated!

"play a little druuuumz, and you come back.. and its dun" 😂 thanks for your video! Only wondering, Starnet Star removal will not work directly in Siril then?
Many thanks, i understand with your video how it work with macOS !!
Super helpful! thanks!
Cool I got it to work. Now will someone please make a graphical interface for the Mac :)
This is amazing!! Thank you! Lifesaver!
Muchas gracias!!!
Hello,
Great instructions - unfortunately it doesn't work for me. Can it be related to the new Sonoma 14.0 operating system?
Still can't get this to work. I've checked multiple times and the image name is correct. I've tried with my image and the sample images in the folder. Still get "no suitable image found".
Thank you so much!
fwiw, version 1 does not work either. I have tried on two computers, one with 10.13 and one with 10.15, both have the same errors and both are fresh downloads of StarNet.
Hello Dave, I run into this error with my M2 MBP "line 2: ./starnet++: Bad CPU type in executable" when running the "run_startnet.sh". Been trying to search online but no luck so far, do you have any idea?
Nice workaround but way too complex...I think I will just purchase StarXterminator despite the price it will run as a plugin which makes it so much easier...
long time user of StarNet on my Macs, suddenly nothing worked, so, I am trying this routine. But, I can't make this work either. I have followed and checked and rechecked but I get a message that my file is not a directory, or sometimes get no response at all. I have not wiped the version one out of the system yet, could that be a cause?
Hey, thanks for the feedback. I've talked to Dave and he says you should def try wiping the old version first
I changed my file to rgb_test5.tif and it still is showing it cant run because I'm not verified???
Sounds like a permission issue.
Try to open the app in question and close the warning when it shows up.
Click the Apple logo menu in the menu bar, and go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > the General tab.
There, you should see an option labeled Open Anyway in the Allow apps downloaded from the section.
Dave, hi, thanks a lot for the great video. I'm a Mac user myself. If I may ask, what software do you use/suggest under OSX for doing bias/flat/dark corrections to images and registering them?
Thanks!
Hey Antonio, this is wv astronomy speaking on behalf of Dave, just fyi... he says he uses Astro Pixel Processor for stacking and calibrating.. thanks for the comment!
@@WVAA304 Thanks for the attention! Best.
I’m a big dum dum and looking for a software that allows me to capture images on my Mac. Can you help me? Thanks
Hey, Matt. Dave here. Sorry for the delayed response. I use KStars/Ekos
@@dave_has_a_camera thank you!
For mac is no more available :(
Hey man! Is there a windows tutorial for this?
ua-cam.com/video/605qqrT0iDg/v-deo.html
Check out this video, there is a link in the description for the windows version.
It's pretty easy to install on windows.. you can follow along the tutorial to see how I use it in my workflow. Also, there is a link to some RAW data if you want to follow along. 😀
Clear skies!
Tif f f f f f - hahahaha!!!
If you change the edit your run_starnet.sh to look like this, when you run it you will be prompted for the input filename and output filename, it will wait 10 sec after each then process and output your file.
#!/bin/bash
echo "Enter input filename: $input"
sleep 10
echo "Enter output filename: $output"
sleep 10
read input
read output
./starnet++ $input $output
