"Ccm's one piece skate construction is way more innovative than the bauer's traditional one so it gets the point" "Bauer's tendon is way more innovative, but ccm's traditional one might be more confortable for someone so it's a draw" What? I get that there's a lot of personal preference in this video and it is totally fine, but then there's no reason to adopt an "objective" point based score. I've had the supreme s180 for an year now and the super flexible tendon completely changed (in a positive way) my skating. Perhaps it was just perfect for my skate style, but I truly find hard for a traditional tendon to compete with that technology.
I agree with you Chris that the Bauer fit system is revolutionary. Myself, I’ve always liked the jet speed line of skates as they fit my foot the most comfortably. Glad to see innovation comes along with the high price of skates.
Gents this is All Like Starting from Scratch and A real eye opener for me. OMG the Technology has gone right up since my day🙈 Yes I’m 56yrs old and started Skating since 1977 with my first Skates being Bauer Philadelphia😮 I just remember the Orange Colour on the Skates.Progress after I started Playing Ice Hockey in 1979 I had a Pair of Daoust 301 Nationals followed by CCM Super Tacks (which when they got wet the Leather went soft and all the Support went Bye Bye) I never kept either Pair (wish I had though just to reminisce) I loved the Tuuk 2000 blades on the Daoust and hated the Super Tacks Pro Lite Blades. Nowadays I still own (and Still have) 3 pairs of My Skates which I’m sure you guys will class still as Vintage But they are all in great condition And they are:- CCM 852 Super Tacks CCM 992 Super Tacks CCM 1052 Custom Lite Tacks The Sticks I remember we all used were Koho 221 Or Red Titan. So to see these CCM AS4 Pro and the Bauer’s etc are just so unusual to see. Do they make you Skate or play any better? Gretzky never had a problem with the Vintage Stuff😜
I’ve worn Bauer skates ever since I started playing hockey at 4 years old and never thought I would change but the ccm as3 pro is stiffer and lighter then the ultra sonics by such a significant amount that I actually made the switch over to the ccm skate
@@scottmackey4182 idk about the stiffness I think that might be more of a design choice but the weight difference definitely could be from the one piece boot. the only thing I’d say is definitely get rid of the ccm runners and put some step steal in since the stock runners are kinda shit and don’t have good edge grip
Great job as usual Chris. I have 2 pair of CCM skates, Jetspeed and RibCor, and one pair of Vapors. Not these models but I have a few comments that I still think are relevant. While the toe box on the Bauers have less negative space, I still put a little piece of adhesive-backed 2mm black foam in the upper portion of the toe box for a closer fit. I have to layer two pieces of foam in the CCM’s. I find the tongues on CCM to be too thick and curved to fit under my shin guards without inhibiting movement. The Bauer tongue fits under my shin guard and I don’t even notice that it’s there. Regarding the tendon guards. I have stiff tendon guards on all my skates and often find it frustrating trying to catch passes with my blades because the tendon guard limits my ability to thrust my skate out in front of me. So I would consider the flexible tendon guard as a welcome feature. Last thing is regarding coated steel. I have step Blacksteel on my CCM’s and it’s extremely difficult to get them in and out of the holders. One of my holders cracked at the back around the screw mechanism, perhaps due to tapping the Blacksteel into the holder. Coated steel is slightly thicker than the stock steel so beware. Maybe I’m not the only guy who’s had this issue. CCM stock steel goes in and out very easily. I’m not upgrading the steel on my Bauer’s for that reason and also because the stock Bauer steel seems good enough. While I like design of the Jetspeeds and out-of-the-box comfort of the RibCors, those skates are backups to my Vapors. For me, the Vapors just perform better overall.
No after market STEP blades for Buaer. First thing we did with New Super Tacks AS3 pro skates was change out blades with STEP blades. This is first thing I would do with either skate but now you can't with Buaer. My son always was a Buaer skate fan until he tried CCM super Tacks 2 years ago. I Just replaced his old Super Tacks with the new AS3 pro because he loved his old one so much. He is a CCM fan after switching brands.
I have the AS3 Pros and love them! Went from the original Jetspeed to the AS3 Pros and night and day. The Jetspeed I would get hot/sore spots even though they were baked to my feet. The AS3s are baked as well and are like wearing sneakers in comparison. No hotspots or for soreness even after spending 3+ hours on the ice either coaching youth hockey practices and/or clinics or playing in a mens league game.
A little something to add, the CCM AS3 Pro doesn't come with all 3 different tongues and each one costs $76 USD + shipping. That said, I've tried on both. Coming from someone with a narrow heel, wide forefoot and low volume foot - the AS3 Pro was my choice. Ultrasonic toe box (fit 2) was still too small. Not happy with that new design
Thank you for this comment , described my foot to perfection. They have a sale of the skates now and the closest store is 4 hours away. Saved me gas and time
Thanks for the video brother, the one piece skate looks awesome. Reminds me of premium speed skate construction. On that note, speedskates have been one piece carbon fiber boots for a long time. Good to see hockey go in the same direction. Once molded for your foot they are the best.
If situation allows it, you could include an estimation of the time spend using skates you're presenting, thus adding trust to the respective advices or oppinions you're sharing through your videos.
Hearing an Englishman talk about hockey still throws this Canadian off. But there’s no denying that Chris knows his shit. As always, a great and informative clip!
I finally had to deep-six my 652 Super Tacks from 1995. I absolutely cannot stand the looks of the new CCM skates. It may be vain and silly, but it’s Bauer for me.
Been in Bauer’s for a few years, never tried CCMs since the days of the Externo range but the 1 piece boots do look slick and a couple of teammates highly rate them so would consider looking, however I know my sizing and fit in Bauer so would look at the Bauer’s as a preference. Would be interesting to see an actual hands on video, showing stiffness of the boot, even the comfort pads- how hard are those? The CCM look like they’re solid plastic which is obviously a material thing as the patent leather on the Bauer’s comfort pad looks like actual padding if that makes sense. Also you compared the changing of blades, ever done again a hands on test? I’ve never actually seen anyone change a CCM blade where as I’ve done a few personally on my various Bauer’s I’ve had through the ranges from the TUUK holders
AS3 pro owner here; can attest that switching blades on the AS3 pros is very easy .. it's an extremely robust design that doesn't require any tooling to remove or insert blades. I went back and forth between the Ultrasonics and the AS3 pros in the shop but the comfort of the AS3 pro liners was what made me decide on that model, it's just soo snug and comfortable to your foot (which again varies tremendously from person to person). I bought a set of MIDAS mid insoles but eventually resorted to a set of Burton snowboard insoles I had from a previous set of snowboard boots (the MIDAS ones turned out to take away too much space in the boot).
Anders Borum interesting that you’ve done that with the insole, that’s the one thing sometimes look quite basic on hockey skates. On my Bauer MX3 they have a ‘cupped heel’ insole on mine which doesn’t fit me well so I’ve went back to my old insoles from my old skates (Nike Bauer quest v 12) which are very flat all throughout. Have considered custom insoles but from the state of my skates and knowing they’re a bit big, I’m staying away from custom insoles just yet
There is a massive debate with insole companies about this so not exactly. The arch support is said to possibly inhibit the way your foot actually works. We’re still doing homework but from what we can see.. Superfeet is still the best option.
Maybe you should make a video comparing superfeet, orthomove, and speed plates. I personally have flat wide feet and found the orthomove with arch supports removed to be the most comfy I've ever worn. Itd be cool to see a blind test on ice 🤘

Thank you. Both super basic foam footbeds. I actually had this covered in the video but decided to remove it. Superfeet is the only real option. Bauer stopped doing speed plate and CCM’s high end footbed is a little expensive. Superfeet is the best option hence the removal of that part of the video.

I believe this is before CCM signed with step. I could be wrong but if I am then I think CCM started shipping Step with newer models of skates (ex. JetSpeed Ft4)
@Clive Richard Although I believe Tuuk trigger is better than the rolly thing, why would you want Tuuk, when StepSteel Black is XS holder only? CCM owns stepsteel--I'd rather their holder on Ultrasonics or AS3!
CCM wins on inovation, Baur wins head to head from a consumer market for most appealing due to being the Blade runner, and the fit system, that being said the CCM custom program beats all hands down, beats all other custom programs hand down also.
I own a pair of AS1 [love it, but...] but i must say i am disappointed with the quality. The skate is falling apart after 1 1/2 yrs later. Had to replace holders [broken], had to replace eyelets [deformed and broken] and now the toe cap is breaking away from the quarter package... go figure... also, the holders tend to get loose overtime due to the one piece construction, the torque you put on the boot simply start to loosen up the holder in a course of 1 yr... i had to re-do the holder pins 4 times. I coach 2x a week and play 2-3x a week as well. So i am on the ice usually 5x a week... for a high end top of the line skate, it simply does not hold... i am skeptical about the AS3 durability [dont doubt on performance]. I am willing to go with Bauer since most Bauer players i know have their skates for at least 2 before considering a new pair... i started to consider new ones 1 yr later... thoughts?
When ccm became obsessed with making the skate lighter they really undermined the "non performance components" which helped a lot with durability. There's a reason bauer leaves stuff around the heels and in high wear areas. Your comment hasn't been uncommon in my experience at my store
@@lobbytubes thanks for giving me some good insight. I am really looking forward to UltraSonic, i was eyeballing the 2S Pro but also heard some bad comments on the lacing system cracking. I guess thats is why they changed to the conventional eyelets on UltrSonic. Have you heard anything on that or do you think the 2S Pro is a solid and more durable skate [compared to AS1]?
@@AffordableWhiskyReview I have the 2S Pro's and I actually really like the lace locking system and the tung on them. It took a second to get used to but I typically don't do up the top eyelet of any skate I've ever worn but the Bauer have that smaller eyelet which works perfectly. My only complaint about Bauer skates is I've broken the outsole on two different boots, one was an APX 2 and one was a 2S Pro. I crack the outsole on the outside of the runners but to be fair I'm a very large hockey player (300 lbs) that can skate very aggressively given my size. The 2S Pro was a bit disappointing since I only had it for a year and half (play 4 times a week) but it didn't stop me from buying another pair. The tendon guard takes some getting used to but is way better than the traditional ones in my opinion. Picking up some 2S Pros right now is solid. Hopefully next year Bauer will shift to a one piece boot at least for the outsole.
Yeah, strange choice by CCM. I wanted to go with the AS3's, but got the FT4's because of the blade. Maybe CCM feels the Super Tacks will sell themselves on name alone, and want to boost the FT4's and 110k's sales #'s with the addition of the Step Steel. Either way, it has to be a marketing thing, if they have limited supply of Step blades right now. AS4 Pro should have the Step Steel. BTW, I love the FT4 Pro's, just not 100% on the graphics. Super Tacks graphics were more my style.
Talk about how the xs1 blades are skinnier and break frequently.. coming from someone who works in a pro shop. Not to mention more irritating to sharpen for whatever reason
I'm not very fond of the new Bauer Fit system. I have narrow ankles but very wide feet, toes and hight volume feet. When the Nexus family came out, I absolutely loved them, I still do, very comfortable, very wide, all the trims, the plastic lacing system, etc... I'm very dissapointed that Bauer took the off the market. I had always wanted to use the Vapor family, but could´nt, because of the narrow fit, the vapors have. And with the new Bauer Fit system I was very excited to try Vapors. I purchased a pair of hyperlites, and went half a number up, and got the fit 3(high volume). I have to say, they look sick!!! But was very disappointed,... The vapors are so narrow... they hurt my feet all the time, specially after long games and trainning. I used them for 3 months, and were still very uncomfortable, specially in the mid section and the toe area. I ended up selling them. Very disappointed... thinking about trying the AS3 in wide. but not sure, or maybe the supreme in fit 3 and going a number up. I´m 5´7 and weigh 155 size 9 shoe, plays 4 times a week
Honestly the one piece construction is just a gimmick, i used the ft2's myself and i did not feel anything different about them compared to a 2 piece bauer skate, not to mention the ft'2 s quality is just terrible, i went through 2 pairs in one year because of them getting too sort the first time and then just straight up cracking the second time. I switched to Bauer 2x's just now and i don't see how the two piece construction slows me down and somehow i like it better than the ft2 yet its way cheaper.
Is there tangible proof that the kacknof an outsole brings any noticeable benefit to the general hockey player. Energy transfer is a funny concept and likely only applies to the top end skaters, when comparing two skates such as these.
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial okay well sorry I keep asking. Do you have an opinion at all on them? I would love some custom skates and it just seamed like a more budget friendly option? But maybe the benefits of the Bauer, CCM, and True skate outweigh the Grafs?
The notorious bauer toe bulb! I've noticed bauers out of the box have a pitch that leans you on your heels where as CCM is neutral and maybe slightly forward pitched which is perfect for most skaters.
I'm sure both are good, but in Canada and the customer service I've exeprienced, Bauer is HEAD AND SHOULDERS BETTER than CCM. (CCM wouldn't reply to emails asking where I could buy their products...I even sent a letter to headquarters and still crickets). Do yourself a favor and go with Bauer if it fits..
That will be great, I have a brand new pair of 2S pro and thinking of converting to roller with mars blade, and buy the Ultrasonic for ice. Want to know some of the improvements from 2S Pro to Ultrasonic. Thanks Chris for making these video!
Tounge isn't protection from checking, but rather wrist/slap shots. I played collegiate hockey and coach kids now, I NEVER, repeat NEVER seen blades just pop out of trigger tuuk holders. So basically you aren't reviewing, but rather plugging for CCM
it´s not common, but i´ve seen a friend´s blade come out of the tuuk holder, all the time. I own a pair of Nexus N1 and have never had problems with it.
It's a good thing we have options so that people with different wants and preferences can go with what they like. Sure bauer is the most used skate brand by NHL pros but I'd argue that many of the best and most impressive skaters use CCM (Crosby, Ovetchkin, Mcdavid, Barzal, Tavares) There's no point in arguing. I wish there was more brands than just Bauer CCM and True. It be great if Easton Graf Mission etc. Were still in the game. With that said CCM has my brand loyalty when it comes to skates. Bauer's are gimmicky (bizzare tendon guards and tongues with swapable inserts) and they are pitched in a way where they put you on your heels so you have to spend more money to get em custom profiled and they are generally more expensive than CCM. I usually buy pro stock and go a generation or two back and get great deals on CCM($300-500) Bauer's are all $700-800-900+ Currently wearing Tyler Toffoli 2014 Tacks. Brand new never baked I'm box for $300-350 I can't remember exactly. Super durable and comfortable skate. You be hard pressed to find something similar in Bauer. You'll easily spend hundreds more even for a 1S or 2S pro
Better off with a less expensive pair, these are NHL level skates and the stiffness and features really arent needed for beginner or rec players. But yeah if you want it go mad
@@jaygray614 If you want a great pair to learn on and keep you going, check out the S29's. Marked down hard, excellent--and not too stiff (beginners do NOT want NHL stiffness). They are very high quality for their price, and affordable.
@@Userunknown12a34b So I'd say you really need to try them on. I've been a Bauer Supreme guy for most of my life and they changed up their toe caps for this line. The toe caps cut into my foot too much to wear so I actually had to go with AS3 Pros this time around. If the toe caps don't hurt you and they may not because I have less normal foot then the Bauer is a more comfortable skate. The AS3 is rockered more forward like the Vapor Line which I don't really care for but I've adapted to it after skating on it for the last two months. If I could have had last years toe caps in the Ultra Sonic I would have gone with that instead I think. I am interested to see if the CCM monoboot holds up better than the Bauer. My only really knock on Bauer Skates is I crack the bottom outsole right around runners in about 18 months which isn't great for $1000 skates. Keep in mind I'm 6'3 300lbs and play adult league 4 times a week and I am a good skater for beer league; so you might not break the Bauers like I do. My insta is austinsnipes14
This is a matter of opinion! My son has always skated on Buaer and after skating on Super Tacks he will never go back. The comfort he says is so much better he says. Also we always go with aftermarket STEP steel and profile them for both but now you can't buy aftermarket blades for Bauer.🙁

Great video, exceptionally informative. I truly enjoyed it.
Can you please do the same for the Ultrasonics and the Machs?
Much love
We shall :) thanks for the kind words
is there even a point to upgrade from as1 to as3?
On ice??
Why isn´t CCM using StepSteel on the AS3 ??? I´ve read some reviews about it, and most people complain about the XS blade.
Do you guys have the new Bauer Supreme Stick yet? I am really looking forward to it
I Snipe Bardownski a video on it or your getting it yourself?
minecrafter 462 both
Yeah we have it. Video coming soon but it will be off ice maybe synthetic ice review
Hockey Tutorial when is it coming out I have been waiting for 4 months by now
Carson Vink July 31st
What material are the toecaps made of?
One piece skate construction trumps all.
Please try to do a ccm as3 pro custom skate video.
I am biased towards CCM having skated on CCM Tackaberry skates back in the day. Now skating on CCM AS1 skates. I am in favor of CCM technology
Both nice but I won't be trading in my perfect fit True skates anytime soon.
You will once they start to break in a couple of seasons.
I don't know how anyone can tell you which one is better without wearing them on the ice. lol
Can you please review custom Graf skate? ⛸
For the 3 people that will buy them?
hazelnut49 We can’t justify the effort. Plus we’re sick of trying to speak with Graf
@@HockeyTutorialOfficial okay well sorry I keep asking. Do you have an opinion at all on them? I would love some custom skates and it just seamed like a more budget friendly option? But maybe the benefits of the Bauer, CCM, and True skate outweigh the Grafs?
Hockey Tutorial since Graf Canada (Vaughn) took them back over they aren’t helpful? Seems odd to me
Carbon fiber is TERRIBLE in impact! Not a great idea to put it into the toe cap. 🤷🏻♂️
I cut one in half. It’s plastic that only looks like carbon fibre. Also if you scrape out hard enough, the carbon fibre look goes away.
the amount of steel on the toe end of the Bauers is crazy! ccm for me...
Honestly, i love bauers concept on fitting but i really think the look of the bauer skates are UGLY
thizzyy honestly if your just focusing on the look of the skate u should be a fashion designer not a hockey player
@@roycegoodwin8604 aight chill do i have an opinion?
honestly i think that ultrasonics looks ugly but the 2x pros look so nice
The ultra sonics look terrible compared to the more classic looking 1s or 2s pros. Huge downgrade in aesthetics
@@stpierreorama highly agree
pls do same video but ultrasonic vs 2s pro
Already filmed and is coming
That will be great, I have a brand new pair of 2S pro and thinking of converting to roller with mars blade, and buy the Ultrasonic for ice. Want to know some of the improvements from 2S Pro to Ultrasonic. Thanks Chris for making these video!
Have both & the ultra sonics shit on the as3 pros
Tounge isn't protection from checking, but rather wrist/slap shots. I played collegiate hockey and coach kids now, I NEVER, repeat NEVER seen blades just pop out of trigger tuuk holders. So basically you aren't reviewing, but rather plugging for CCM
it´s not common, but i´ve seen a friend´s blade come out of the tuuk holder, all the time. I own a pair of Nexus N1 and have never had problems with it.
Bauer is no 1 in skates, no doubt about it.
It's a good thing we have options so that people with different wants and preferences can go with what they like. Sure bauer is the most used skate brand by NHL pros but I'd argue that many of the best and most impressive skaters use CCM (Crosby, Ovetchkin, Mcdavid, Barzal, Tavares)
There's no point in arguing.
I usually buy pro stock and go a generation or two back and get great deals on CCM($300-500) Bauer's are all $700-800-900+
Currently wearing Tyler Toffoli 2014 Tacks. Brand new never baked I'm box for $300-350 I can't remember exactly. Super durable and comfortable skate. You be hard pressed to find something similar in Bauer. You'll easily spend hundreds more even for a 1S or 2S pro
Love my ultrasonics 🤘
A draw would be my conclusion, imo
ive always used bauer skates and liked bauer skates but i think ccm wins on this one. Also the new skates are ugly
Could u learn to skate on any of these
Better off with a less expensive pair, these are NHL level skates and the stiffness and features really arent needed for beginner or rec players. But yeah if you want it go mad
@@Person2055. I can understand that I apreciate the advice man cheers I will keep looking
@@jaygray614 If you want a great pair to learn on and keep you going, check out the S29's. Marked down hard, excellent--and not too stiff (beginners do NOT want NHL stiffness). They are very high quality for their price, and affordable.
Most Pro's don't use the XS runner they use a Bauer TUUK LS mounted on the CCM skate. I'd still give Bauer the nod on the runner, Pro's know.
can you drop your insta? i have multiple questions to ask about whether i should buy a bauer supreme or ccm and i dont know which type to buy.
Bauer is better
That’s just your opinion
Moving from Reebok to Bauer I'd say hell no. Spent over a grand now going to ccm.
Graf Tobias I prefer ccm
This is a matter of opinion! My son has always skated on Buaer and after skating on Super Tacks he will never go back. The comfort he says is so much better he says. Also we always go with aftermarket STEP steel and profile them for both but now you can't buy aftermarket blades for Bauer.🙁
19:25 New text message.
XS>Tuuk
nice vid
Depressing to see Bauer trying to copy the One Piece Boot
its stupid. instead of coating a blade in carbon or titantium, why not use the raw material itself? in other words, WE WANT A CARBON BLADE
If you wanna pay $1000 for pure titanium blades, maybe you could have them custom made.
bauer is better
