If there’s too much blood in my caffeine system I’m totally unable to even pretend I’m human. Two big mugs in the morning and I’m ready to take on anything. I only drink coffee in the morning, though.
Did you know that there are 40 different beans to use in the world. World wide over the last 80 years we have only used 2/40 beans. Aribica and robustA. 100mg of caffiene is low. 300/450mg is perfect. Also, the more fluid oz you have the more caffiene. Aribica has barely caffiene.. eg Starbucks costa.... The only coffee company in the world that use something designed for exercise is called, The Sports Barista bases in the UK. Little fact.

I only use caffeine for races. I take 2.5mg per kilogram about 30 minutes before the start- caffeine tablets. Between races and off season, no regular coffee or tea drinking as regular consumption of caffeine reduces it’s performance boosting qualities. Caffeine gives a significant performance boost. Train without it. Race with it. (do several runs during training at race pace with your expected caffeine dose to make sure you tolerate it!)
Trying to cut back on caffeine to help with migraines and muscle cramps. That said, I do love some caffeine before a run. (Also love my coffee and tea)
Remember that caffeine is also a diuretic. Which means your body can loose a lot water when you drink or ingest it. So make sure you drink a little extra water to balance things out.
New studies have shown that if your body is acclimated to drinking caffeine regularly, you actually do benefit somewhat from the water intake. Not 100%, it's still a diuretic, but you do wind up net positive.
I used to drink coffee every day, multiple cups a day. Probably 400-500mg a day total, assuming ~100mg/cup (I was partial towards bigger cups). Then I skipped a day one week-end, had a hell of a headache all day, and decided I was going to switch to decaf for a while. I just didn't like the idea of being dependent on a substance just to feel OK. And at that point, it's pretty much was it was: I was feeling OK with coffee, but I didn't really feel the benefits, I didn't really get the caffeine high all that much anymore. Coffee === normal state, note coffee == crap. I actually extended to running - my run felt a lot harder for the first few days without caffeine. I've been on decaf for a few months, now it's a mix of both. And while before, as I said, I didn't really feel anything in particular after having coffee, nowadays I do. I do have more energy during a run if I had coffee that day, my stride feels a little bit bouncier. Bottom line is, imo: if you're used to take coffee each and every day, you're probably not getting much out of it anymore. There seems, at least for me, to be a pretty good tolerance effect developing with daily caffeine. If you expect to enjoy the benefits when you train, I would suggest to cut down on coffee, at least every other day or something.
So true! I drink half decaf/ half high test every morning. That way I still have the option to go full caffeine on days I need/ want it, and get the benefits, without skipping my morning wake up ritual.
This is the info that I've always wanted to get. I often drink caffeine-packed pre-run drinks like Celsius or Bang for my 1 hrs 30 something mins run. Always been feeling guilty about using these caffeinated drinks and wondering if I'm taking in too much caffeine. 😑😑 Thanks so much for sharing!!!
I only consume caffeine during events as I feel it gives me the maximum benefit from the caffeine. And on some long training days to make sure my body is used to it.
Great Topic , I personally have trained myself to limit caffeine intake as I see how it raises my HR on my runs in general . While it certainly has benefits I feel it’s more psychological to say to yourself that you need caffeine, IMO

Wow this is super insightful and actually quite incredible! I wonder if there are coffee pods with specified amounts of caffeine based on my body weight. Sure would be nice to have for training and performance days.
Im really a morning person, i wake up at 5 oclock in the morning, drink water and go on a run fasted. It works really well a d dont need any caffeine. Only drink one or two cups of tea at night
I honestly don't get drinking caffeine pre-run. I run first thing in the morning and I am tired at times as well but the run usually wakes me up. All that happens when I run with caffeine is an increase in HR and garmin giving me a negative performance condition. This is coming from a coffee addict, but I drink it after my run, taste sooooo good after my morning run.
Definitely NO GO for me, the adrenaline gland just press on me so much, but I am out of liquid to squeeze making my blood flow much harder on my hip, it is so painful that I have to walk and slow down to sit for a while. I can usually run 6.2 miles in about 54 minutes, now this pain just slow me down on this session. The long run with little bumps and a bit acceleration every now and then already create adrenal.

Oh man, I want to start running so bad, yet I get shin splints every time I do... I got orthopedic insoles that may or may not help, I did a Gait analysis and what they found is that I have very strong overpronation, sinking hips that lead t overdressing. I feel like I need to work on these aspects first before I start running, so I don't have to take a longer break every two runs... but man, is this frustrating, doing little foot and hip exercises and waiting for it to get better :(
Have you tried pilates? It's wonderful for strengthening everything while balancing both sides of the body... and it's relatively fun and easy. I just UA-cam search pilates for runners. Best wishes!

Try triphala powder in warm water. It tastes awful but works :)
@@DerekTrowbridge ok but....... Why? Coffee works

You could do a warmup walk/run to get your bowels going before the main run.
But then you'd have no excuse for the sweet nectar

Surprised she didn't mention anything about increased cortisol and effects on performance.
I really “listen to my body” and every morning it tells me “GIVE ME CAFFEINE! Give me caffeine NOW!!!” I’m guessing I’m not alone.

30-45 min before is a good time frame, just make sure your stomach feels ready to go!

I drink coffee an hour after a run. My stomach cant handle any drinks during or before runs (with the exemption of plain water).
Isn't a cup of coffee around 70 - 100 mg of caffeine?
Caffeine causes the kidneys to eliminate potassium faster and potassium is necessary for nerve signal transmission.
Banana + A glass of milk = 💪
I run on caffeine.. idk
Edit : I just found out that I should not consume more than 331ml. I'm taking 406 :)))
Caffeine increases the heart rate / is this something that helps ,running?
