@@user-de1317 아시아계 미국인들이 흔하게 겪는 인종차별이에요. 이걸 이해하기 위해서는 영미권국가에서 아시아인이 가지는 특수한 narrative를 알아야 하는데요, 하와이나 캘리포니아 같이 아시아계가 많은 지역을 제외하고는 아시아계 미국인은 demographic상 제일 소수인종이기 때문에 일반적으로 백인들은 아시아인을 보면 당연히 그를 FOB(Fresh Off the Boat : 배에서 방금 내렸다는 뜻으로 이민자를 나타내는 속어)라고 생각합니다. 아무리 부모 대부터, 혹은 조부모 대부터 2대~3대가 미국에서 살아왔어두요. 특히 이 영상에서는 마크가 분명히 캐나다 출신이라고 밝혔는데도 굳이 "영어 잘하네" 라고 하는거는 네이티브끼리 대화에서는 절대 칭찬이 아닙니다(오히려 insulting에 가까운 뉘앙스) 그러니까. 마크는 국적도 캐나다인이고 자기 스스로도 캐나다인이라고 생각하고 있으며 영어 native로서의 정체성이 있는 사람에게 "영어잘하네" 라고 한다는 거 = 그사람을 무시하는 언사라고 봐야 하는 거죠

물론 영어 잘한다고 한거까진 칭찬으로 받을 수 있지만, 캐나다에서 살았다고 답을 했으면 “아 어쩐지~” 이런 식의 반응을 하는게 정상 아닌가ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 분명히 캐나다에 살았다고 언급을 했는데도 영어 잘한다고 하는건ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

It really is so insulting to Mark and Joshua and Johnny having to deal with these unprepared and racist hosts acting like it’s surprising that Americans or Canadians can speak English. What I like to do in situations like that (as an Asian American) is to compliment them on their English. “Thanks! Your English is really good too!”

Mark is indeed so creative and smart when he answers the host’s questions. He gets to the point without trolling around and he gives clear and consistent answers as if he’s already prepped for the questions. As an Asian American myself, I don’t think my brain can process the answers to the questions as fast as Mark. He’s definitely intelligent.
He's very thoughtful and straightforward and doesn't beat around the bush.

인종차별 너무 심해요. 작년 nct 127이 미국투어를 했을 당시 토크쇼나 여러 프로그램에서 진행자가 인종차별을 하였고,
nct 127이 길거리를 지나갈 때 멤버들에게 3달러를 내밀었습니다. 알면서도 의도적으로 케이팝 타그룹의 이름을 외치며 멤버들을 당황시켰고요. 보면서 분노를 하지 않을 수가 없었습니다.
+ 타그룹 멤버가 아닌 걸 알면서도 타그룹을 외치는 것은 nct 127 멤버들과 그 그룹에게 무례할 뿐만 아니라 아시안들을 조롱하는 것과 마친가지입니다. 아시안들은 다 똑같다는 뉘앙스로 말했거든요. 모든 영상과 사진은 해외팬들이 트위터에 올렸습니다.

I think Mark have much wider vocabulary and emotions in his book because whenever he's answering typical questions, he always came back with different kind of responses with a bit of humor, that makes him so pleasant to engage with when he can talk to you like he known you for a long time, not just a formal conversation between host/fan and the artists.
Mark’s really eloquent, he perfectly answers questions correctly, you can clearly see how great he is with his words and that how all this very much aligns with his old (and still passionate) dream to become an author. I’d love to read a book written by him sometime in the future.

@@ameerak.7790 facts. a lot of kpop idols don't know english well but there are some idols who speak english well or are actually from english speaking places and speak fluently and have clearly said it too but ppl still say "your english is great!" and even when they don't clearly say that they speak english well or are from english speaking places and gre up there doesn't mean assume they're all korean. I understand that it's kpop and most kpop idols are korean but ppl should get to learn about them better before interviewing them and I don't mean just briefly learn their names. it's better to learn more about them so you know them better before the interview but that doesn't mean pretend they're your close friends. so all the things you said are FACTS.

Yes I agree. Mark's answers are always 'full', articulate, it's not just some pointless sentences. Watching his SuperM and NCT interviews, no wonder SM always put him as the spokesperson anywhere. 우리나라는 단일민족을 기반으로 한 나라이다보니 이제서야 점점 인종차별에 대한 인식이 자리잡히고 있는 것 같은데, 미국이나 캐나다 영국과 같은 나라들(다인종이 당연시되는 문화의 국가들)에서는 생긴것(=인종)으로 사람을 평가하는 것은 특히나 더 가장 흔하고 스테레오타입적인 인종차별의 예입니다. 흑인이든 황인이든 백인이든 자국민일 수 있는 건데 황인이라는 이유로 너 영어 잘하네? 라고 묻는것은 그 사람이 기본적으로 그 나라의 국민이 아니라는 뜻을 내포하고 있기에 인종차별이 됩니다.
이 영상에서는 심지어 마크가 바로 전 질문에 캐나다인이라고 밝혔는데도 불구하고 사회자가 영어 잘하네? 라고 하죠. 사회자가 다인종에 대한 문화적 인식이 있는 사람이었다면, 캐나다의 언어는 영어로, 마크가 캐나다인이라고 밝힌 지점에서 이미 영어를 잘하는 것을 당연시 했어야 하는데, 마크가 아시안의 외모를 가졌다는 이유로 영어 잘하네 라고 한거죠.
아마 사회자는 그것이 인종 차별적 발언이라는 인지 조차 없었을 겁니다. 그렇기에 더 은근하고 폭력적인 형태의 인종차별이 되는 거죠. 차별을 당하는 피해자 입장에서는 방송에서 대놓고 발끈할 정도로 강력한 형태의 차별이 아니다보니 대처를 하기도 쉽지 않고, (그래서 이런 일들을 많이 겪는 할리우드의 동양배우들은 당신도 영어 잘하네요! 라는 부드러운 반격을 하곤 합니다), 이런 방송 미디어들을 접하는 10대들은 또 나가서 타인종들에게 영어 잘하네! 라고 하겠죠. 본인들이 하는 언행이 인종차별이라는 것도 인지하지 못한 채요.

Joshua is rarely uses English in his daily life, he only expresses in English occasionally when he wants to convey his message and his (seventeen) gratitude to international carats, but I have to admit it every time he uses English he sounds sexy but also warm, he speaks with low tone but with breath that is very well regulated (at least in my opinion) so that every time he speaks in English all the words he used and his voice tone feels different with the times when speaking in Korean.
He also often speaks in English with Vernon
He says he uses English often more than Korean and always thinks in English first whenever he wants to express something, he just gets used to Korean more since he moved there.
Yeah, it's just that I mean he rarely used it after he moved to korea and only used it when he was with those people who also speaks english like Vernon and some time when he spoke English we can only see it when he interacts with International Carats :)

마크씨는 영어가 모국인인 사람들중에서도 발음이나 딕션이 매우 깔끔한 사람이죠. 아무리 원어민이라도 다들 발음이 좋은건 아니여서. 태초에 발음이 정확한것도 있지만 아마 래퍼 포지션 때문에 영향받은것도 약간은 있다고 생각합니다
마크는 보컬로 입사했지만 랩포지션을 해보는게 어떻겠냐는 권유에
따따따따 하는걸로 발성이나 발음을 엄청 연습했다고 하네용 어느정도 타고난것도 있겠지만 노력의 결과인것 같아요 넘나 머싯!

I wish that these white American MCs would AT LEAST do research on kpop idols before inviting them onto their show. It’s very insulting to say “your English is good” when clearly they already mentioned that they’re from the states/canada. To say “your English is good” to someone who’s not white is racist and a backhanded compliment (bc you would never say that to a white person). Why is it surprising to hear a non white person have good English? It does not take extensive research to find out that Mark, Johnny, Joshua and Vernon are from America/Canada and can speak English without an accent. It’s so ignorant of the hosts to mention how “good” their English is. It may sound like a compliment but it’s really just their racism showing. To the hosts, do better-and for the idols, I hope they never go on those specific shows again. Johnny was clearly offended by the host bc he responded with “I’m from Chicago” (his response wasn’t included in the video but that was the reason mark was laughing). Also, IT IS PERFECTLY NORMAL FOR NON WHITE PEOPLE/PEOPLE FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S TO HAVE GOOD ENGLISH. Edit: what the hosts are doing is called microaggression, which is when someone tries to cover up a racist comment with a compliment. For example, “Asians are so smart”, “black people are athletic”, “you don’t have an accent when you speak English” etc. It sounds like a compliment but it is generalizing a group of people!! The hosts were generalizing ALL Kpop boys as a group of people that can’t speak English! Please stop excusing this behavior!!
I dont think it's necesarilly racist in this case because they don't have in the show random non white people but korean group so they kinda expect them to be korean. But i agree it's really stupid and they should do their research much better to know who of the group is fluent in english. It just makes them look ignorant and unprepared. Btw.
