I get that the narrow design is a plus as far as space savings go, but isn't it more likely to become uncomfortable for the kids as they grow? They don't just grow in height, after all.

hi the back tends to take the angle of the car seat that it is sitting on so there is still a recline but very dependent on the car it is installed in

I just bought one and the back seems a bit unstable. It goes back and forth. Is that normal?
yes perfectly normal there is a bit or movement so that it can be positioned in different cars with different degrees of angle
