However, today she admits that if she saw any of her sons dating a woman that much older than them. She'd tell that woman, "Get your hands off my son!" Celine was young then and didn't understand why her mother couldn't be happy for her falling in love with a man and not caring about the age difference. But now that Celine is mother herself, she fully understands how her mother felt back then. I think so as well. Her parent’s were still happily married, she grew up poor but with a lot of love and mutual respect for each other in her family home - she’s not your typical „daddy issues“ kind of gal who was looking for somebody to father her. She was looking for a partner! And the fact that she found him so young must have been a blessing because who else would know her better? Getting to know and truly love the person - not the projection in our heads - takes years. And you can tell by the way she talks about him and their interactions, how in sync they were. How much they adored and respect each other long before they became a couple.
Also: the first love is a magical thing. Nobody compares. I remember falling in love when I was 16 and sadly it was not meant to be but oh… it took a decade for me to „fall out of love“. How amazing it must be to be able to allow yourself to just fall deeper and deeper into this state of the ultimate union and share all aspects of life with your partner… I can’t even phantom the pure bliss but we can see it in her eyes. ❤ They had something very rare and made the most of it.
And to have somebody like René by your side - who’s only got eyes for you and stands by you no matter what - is what held her together through the years. It was them against the world.

Forbidden romance is only frowned upon because we assume someone is being used and is bound to get hurt. This was clearly not the case here.
