I was gonna say the only place "alpha" and "beta" really belong is in the Greek alphabet and the hard sciences, lol. Then again, in the American military (Navy at least) you're classified as alpha, beta, etc purely on age basis for physical fitness test purposes; like under a certain age you gotta do so many pushups, in the next age bracket it's a few less, etc.
The whole idea of betas comes from the idea of alphas, which comes from a flawed study on wolves. An alpha male wolf is the canine equivalent of a human psychopath. The closest thing to "alphas" in the wild are basically leaders that look out for the good of the pack. The guy who popularized the idea of the alpha male also realized this after doing the same study that he did on captive wolves on wild ones, and that's what he found. He tried to tell people he'd been mistaken, but by then the idea had already taken off and he couldn't stop it. Bottom line: Alphas are just assholes and I don't even know what the hell is going on with betas
-Said a woman and then went on to date and bang an abusive, muscular millionaire, who was also a former convict and was ten-timing her on the regular, without counting the occasional one-night stands at the nightclubs. When her closest male friend asked her, why does she continue to date this guy, since there's literally zero chance of him, ever wifing her up, she answered that "she cannot help it, she just loves him too much". After she expressed her desire for the ten-timing boyfriend to be more like her friend - caring, loving and always available - the friend tried to suggest a relationship, but the woman quickly shot down the proposition, saying "I said I wanted _him_ to be like you. I am sorry, but I just cannot think of you this way, you are just too... _nice."_

Seeing how inclusive Jenna tends to be with her explanations, I think she was refering BL that fegishizes gay relationships more than good healthy sex between two consensual dudes.
@@gryph346 - Yeah but where's the line, then? What's fetishizing and what's not? BL is not it. It might have very problematic and recurrent tropes but it's an extremely broad genre and there's nothing fetishizing in the wholesome love story between the coffee shop owner and the salaryman (and their cat). Plenty, if not most people (including myself) enjoy BL like any other kind of romance and don't fetishize gay people in the slightest. And plenty of lgbt literature written by gay men depict unhealthy relationships or tropes. So is it a fetish when a straight person has gay characters in their work? Or when the relationship depicted isn't a perfect representation of every queer experience of the 21th century, or spawned from activism? As a big fan of both fantasy, cuteness and casual representation, I can't agree with that... Yeah, there's ridiculous literature and clusters of "problematic fangirls" out there, but the problem is in people's worldview, lack of education and behavior towards real life people. It's the only part that should matter. Fiction has nothing to do with it and most problematic fangirls are young teenager who just don't know any better but will eventually grow up, learn some common sense and oftentimes become allies. (In this specific case, mind you. The fetishization of lesbians or POC is a very different issue, since both have been linked with actual homophobia and racism.)

The disclaimer *This is not for children* never works. you already know there’s gonna be some 11 and 12-year-olds watching this video who already read smutty fanfic
They probably write most of the worst fanfic that has the girl's anatomy wrong anyway. 12 year old boy virgin at least has an excuse to not know how girls work, grown adults doing it - I despair.
Billionaires are just modern nobles, story-wise. Real nobles were never "prince charming." Seriously, look up the Habsburg dynasty if you want a big steaming example.
I write erotica, but I enjoyed this video. Thank you, Jenna! The only thing I would say is that erotic fantasies tap into some of the darkest parts of our psyches, and a lot of those fantasies can be problematic. I think erotica, for all of its flaws, is a safe way for some people to explore those fantasies.
"Not kink-shaming but actually I am" the video. A couple of these are good points, but yeah, several of these are just 'man I don't get this fetish so ew'
i think the babies/pregnancy thing would fall into the catagory of "niche fetish". for some people, that's part of what gets them off, the idea of the POV character getting knocked up/or doing said knocking.
Erotica pretty much equals fetish and so I'm not really surprised by any of this. I think the point of it is people reading/writing about things they wouldn't actually do.
Exactly. And why are people against vulgar language in erotica? It's.... erotica for a reason. How many times can you say cum or semen before it gets boring? Maybe readers WANT something more descriptive like "ropes of glistening cum" once in awhile 🙄
#7 has been common in erotic fanfiction for decades. One Direction, Harry Potter, etc. Any two male characters will have more pairings in fanfics than all female characters combined.
I disagree on "don't fetishize [X]". It's a sexual fantasy, so fetishize, whatever people fantasize about. Just be aware that your fetish has nothing to do with reality and that the group of people you fetishize propably wont like your book.
It's sometimes combined with terrible anatomy. Guys bleeding from the ass the first time you fuck him, because he's a virgin. We don't work like that...
Criticizing erotica (except for the anatomy part) seems a little strange, as it's by its very nature a very niche product that's meant to appeal to some rather specific fetishes, and most of them are not meant for wide appeal. I dislike babies as much as the next person, but of someone's turned on by idea of pregnancy, hey, whatever floats yer boat. That said, still loved you video, very entertaining (and I 100% agree with the anatomy thing)
Me as soon as you brought up alpha stuff because I thought you meant A/B/O:😳 but with the fetishizing I would like to bring up I see alot of trans fetishization in books that aren't in stores.
worst is most erotica fanfiction is not as horrible as erotica "real fiction". excluding the 90% of fanfiction that are just garbage because they are written by 14 year olds that wouldn't even be legally allowed to read their own work of course. But the better FF writers have a better handle on their sex scenes than professional erotica writers. Or at least the bit that i read
@@Metalhammer1993 you havent read(i also havent)Japanese light novels that got adapted in asterisk war in the First chapter the mc saw the female lead's panty😧
Wait, so it's morally wrong to write/enjoy erotica that doesn't match your orientation? If a gay person enjoys heterosexual porn, are they "fetishizing" heterosexuals?
Not necessarily, it just depends on if it changes the way you view others. If you watch gay/straight porn and subsequently start viewing gay/straight people as sexual objects (only thinking about them in sexual situations), then yes you are fetishising them. If it doesn't change the way you view them and you understand that they don't just exist to have sex for you to get off, then you are not. It's a fine line
If they are or aren't, in my opinion that's none of my business. They have every right to not expect their private thoughts and feelings to be policed. Freedom of conscience is a thing for a reason, and even if, as a heterosexual, I am uncomfortable with it, bad luck - I don't get a say in what other people's sexual desires should be. My rights as an individual do not extend to being percieved only in a manner of which I approve.
Fiction is Fiction write whatever you want, thank you for the laughs. This is why I like writers they are just weird as heck and I am weird as heck, lol.
She skipped the fact that there's a specific genre or erotica which is Alpha and Beta gay fetishization. And it's weird. Like, in some of it the alpha male can impregnate the beta males.

I once found human x dinosaur erotica on Amazon. It was freakin weird. Like why would a hungry T. rex be more interested in doing a human woman than eating her? And why the heck did running from the rex arouse her?!
As for the reading/accepting of certain highly questionable tropes (not the motivation to write it, really can't touch that), I have a theory. It's mostly to do with generations who grew up in the internet age, can across a lot of things they didn't expect / didn't quite understand initially and were (morbidly?) curious about, and over time became desensitized to it in a way. That's all I got.
I can't believe you're in your mid-30s still thinking masturbation should end in orgasm when not everyone is able to achieve one. For some people, the goal is simply pleasure.

"Bonus content!" content with bones in. Yes! That's what I want! Hot chicks talking about bones! Oh, wait; she's a cyborg; this may not end well... Why is she getting out the hotwings sauce?
No, this is a different thing. In m/m fanfiction there are alphas (dominant gay males) and omegas (gay males who can get pregnant, usually submissive, though I see that played with a LOT). What she's talking about is alpha vs. beta males in m/f erotica; these are straight males who are either domineering or submissive to the woman. Similar but different.

Erotica thrives on taboo subjects, but definitely not realism. You might as well ask how elves and hobbits are supposed to be believable while pointing out the problematic elements of both. (I'm sure there are video essays on exactly that.)

My least favorite Erotica trope is my favorite fetish ironically enough. BDSM. You'd think I love this trope. _I'd_ think I'd love this trope. But the problem is, very few writers know how to write it, I find. The dom is usually some big tough guy with a soft side deep down, and uses BDSM because he's "a rough and tough man who says no to no one", and the sub is some demure, princess like wallflower or sensitive soul that _needs_ to be protecting because she's so pure for this world and has never even THOUGHT of entering a BDSM relationship but has "submissive tendencies". As someone who's into BDSM in real life... *_IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THIS AT ALL!!!!!!!_* Most BDSM in erotica feels more like rape to me. I've seen maybe a handful of BDSM stories that show it right, but they're few and far in between.

I hate it when they write erotica between teacher-student, family and relatives, or their relative's or someone else's partner (cheating) and many more disgusting, unethical and immoral stuffs in an attempt to make it hotter because "Ooh... naughty."
The point about female writers fetishizing gay relationships was so on point. Like, there are female writers (non erotica) that bring out the best in same sex relationships, but somehow, this just gets fucked up in erotica. And for some reason, most of the popular eroticas seem to focus on relationships that are nearly abusive as if sex and mutual respect cannot happen at the same time
In umm... some of their defense, it is just fiction. And fantasy. Since when was fantasy realistic or anatomically accurate? It's kinda expected to not be real.

I was wondering what she even meant by "fetishizing gays". Since she didn't define it, was wondering if she just meant any gay erotica.
It doesn't at end of day what turns you are if getting off from books, cartoon arts, whatever I pefer that then people hurting each other for their own pleasure.
Jenna: The problem is when the harem is made up of all brothers.
My brain: *flashes back to Brothers Complex*
Me: *pours mixture of bleach and hold water onto my brain* That’ll teach you!!
Guys have it all the time... "Twins, Basil, twins" (Austin Powers: Goldmember) :P
I watched Brothers Complex, and I actually liked it...because I decided to view it just as a girl getting to know her new brothers (platonically, like friends) - for my own sanity.
Clarie 😂 I hear ya! I had to stop. It was too much for me.
Aren't fertility fetishes one of if not THE most widespread fetish of all? Just saying.
I don't know if it's THE biggest (so many moms right now) but it is up there.
The disclaimer *This is not for children* never works. you already know there’s gonna be some 11 and 12-year-olds watching this video who already read smutty fanfic
Who do you think writes them?
👀
Mecharnie Dobbs
😂😂😂👌
They probably write most of the worst fanfic that has the girl's anatomy wrong anyway. 12 year old boy virgin at least has an excuse to not know how girls work, grown adults doing it - I despair.
Im a 14 year old and i don't care i've heard worse.
I’m getting real tired with the creepy alpha male “Doms” using being a “Dom” as an excuse for borderline stalkerish and abusive behavior. Ugh!
Billionaires are just modern nobles, story-wise. Real nobles were never "prince charming." Seriously, look up the Habsburg dynasty if you want a big steaming example.
I'll thank you to leave my big jaw out of this discussion please.
@@Reggie2000 I lol'd out loud for real at your response. thank you for that.
“You have no one to blame but yourself” my mood for 2020 lmfao 😂😂
"Not kink-shaming but actually I am" the video.
A couple of these are good points, but yeah, several of these are just 'man I don't get this fetish so ew'
That Jenna is baffled by the concept of a breeder fetish gives me life.
2:44 Ah, yes. Chads vs. Simps
The four genders: Chad, Simp, Virgin, Whore
i think the babies/pregnancy thing would fall into the catagory of "niche fetish". for some people, that's part of what gets them off, the idea of the POV character getting knocked up/or doing said knocking.
Erotica pretty much equals fetish and so I'm not really surprised by any of this. I think the point of it is people reading/writing about things they wouldn't actually do.
Me: doesn’t plan on writing sex scenes in any of my planned books.
Also me: I have to watch this.
This video is basically just listing things you’re not into while not-so-subtly kink-shaming those who are into it.
“Who the hell started putting babies in erotica?”
I don’t know for sure, but I’m betting my money on a certain Stephanie Meyer...
I disagree on "don't fetishize [X]". It's a sexual fantasy, so fetishize, whatever people fantasize about. Just be aware that your fetish has nothing to do with reality and that the group of people you fetishize propably wont like your book.
Thank you for saying this.
"number 3... Babies"
🤣🤣🤣 I don't know why I laughed so hard!

Me as soon as you brought up alpha stuff because I thought you meant A/B/O:😳
but with the fetishizing I would like to bring up I see alot of trans fetishization in books that aren't in stores.
I mean the porn industry does it, so I'm not surprised.
Also while we are here can we talk about those people who fetishize rape?
Like are you ok?
I was thinking the same things about the alpha stuff lol

She probably did mean the a/b/o trope.
Me, writing a slow-burn Japanese historical romance: well... You never know
I misread the title as erotica fanfiction, and I'm glad that was misread
All statements still apply. Though this was definitely more subjective than usual.
worst is most erotica fanfiction is not as horrible as erotica "real fiction". excluding the 90% of fanfiction that are just garbage because they are written by 14 year olds that wouldn't even be legally allowed to read their own work of course. But the better FF writers have a better handle on their sex scenes than professional erotica writers. Or at least the bit that i read

"Excuse me while I lobotomize myself" is my new favorite phrase. Thank you for this gem, Jenna. Oh, and the tips too I guess.
Asexuals- “I am very uncomfortable with the energy we have created in the studio today“

Fiction is Fiction write whatever you want, thank you for the laughs. This is why I like writers they are just weird as heck and I am weird as heck, lol.
I blame myself for being shocked and offended. Eww alpha's and beta's
She skipped the fact that there's a specific genre or erotica which is Alpha and Beta gay fetishization.
And it's weird.
Like, in some of it the alpha male can impregnate the beta males.
Dominic Noble has a video about the trope. It's a little more nuisanced than how Jenna portrayed it.
I mean...even using the not-strictly accurate wolf pack dynamic for terminology sourcing, the super-ultra-doormat guys would be omega's...the whole thing's just a pile of stupid no matter how you look at it...

Jenna: "flesh wall"
Me: *recoils in horror*
I've literally fought a flesh wall in some video games. tongue punching it into submission never crossed my mind.
I can't believe that Fifty Shads of Grey (the most well known erotica book) checks off nearly all of these tropes.
"Excuse me while I lobotomize myself" Is the best friggen thing I've ever heard- I literally wheezed. Man, her videos never fail to make me laugh.
I'm a fan of this channel, but I just find it a little weird for someone to have so many thoughts and videos about their opinions on erotica when they admit they don't read erotica at all.
not that I like these tropes at all but still

Right as #2 was starting a got a UA-cam ad for shaving blades for genitals, perfect branding.
Wait isn’t it Alphas and *omegas* (if you’re talking about the omegaverse trope) because talking about betas doesn’t really make sense

"We get it, you're gross." FAVORITE!
Could you do a video on protagonists who are really bad people/the villain of the story? I was thinking of writing/drawing a graphic novel/manga or whatever and I wanted to make the protagonist kinda horrible and fucked up- but I need some tips on how to write her. Danke!
I know most videos are self explanatory but this probably could have done with a healthy dose of opinion disclaimer considering the mild kink shaming Jenna ^^;;;
Erotica thrives on taboo subjects, but definitely not realism. You might as well ask how elves and hobbits are supposed to be believable while pointing out the problematic elements of both. (I'm sure there are video essays on exactly that.)
"I then proceeded to tongue punch the twitching, pulsating wall of flesh until it erupted" - Modern Erotica Novel or Lovecraft? The answer MAY surprise you!
This sounds like a Slaanesh WH40K fanfic, as well.

*_IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THIS AT ALL!!!!!!!_*
Most BDSM in erotica feels more like rape to me. I've seen maybe a handful of BDSM stories that show it right, but they're few and far in between.
Blame E. L. James and the terrible 50 shades of grey for this.

Impregnation without responsibility is a MAJOR fetish, especially in hentai manga and doujinshi.
I hate it when they write erotica between teacher-student, family and relatives, or their relative's or someone else's partner (cheating) and many more disgusting, unethical and immoral stuffs in an attempt to make it hotter because "Ooh... naughty."
This is why I’m a “sub” of this channel 😂
The point about female writers fetishizing gay relationships was so on point. Like, there are female writers (non erotica) that bring out the best in same sex relationships, but somehow, this just gets fucked up in erotica. And for some reason, most of the popular eroticas seem to focus on relationships that are nearly abusive as if sex and mutual respect cannot happen at the same time
In umm... some of their defense, it is just fiction. And fantasy. Since when was fantasy realistic or anatomically accurate? It's kinda expected to not be real.
