I am a LIncoln historian with some expertise with the Civil War. You are right Heather in that historians focus only on facts that can be proven. My real nice is female soldiers of the Civil War. Now, this is one segment of the Civil War where there are truths and non truths so I know where you are coming from Heather. Since I was the Coordinator of Social Studies for WV some years ago, I truly appreciate all of the videos that you and Leo have made throughout the years. You brought forth some interesting pieces of WV history not included in the State history books used in the public schools. You will enjoy Pt. Pleasant. Thank you both for this wonderful video.

I've been aching to get my hamds on the WV History book that we used when i was in 4th grade, probably in 1982. I read it outside of class, because I enjoyed it so much. I still love history. I guess that's why I'm here.

I've lived here all of my 63 years and knew only parts of the story, so thank you for the "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would have said. :)

Excellent video. I find it sad that all those graves were just built over. What is really disturbing is no one knows where her remains are. I hope the new year brings you happiness & health. I too had a horrible 2024. I'm looking forward to brighter skies this year. Good luck with your travels. I can't wait to see the videos. Safe travels. Happy New Year.

Thank y'all for another interesting story.
I guess at the time the city was built, the thought of preserving the Native American burial grounds and history were trivial matters when they were wanting to build a new town there.
    I really enjoy y'alls videos.
You get into stories such as this, and it really would've been nice if more acurate and thorough documentation were made. But these folks were more interested in staying alive, providing livelihood,, raising crops and animals.
God bless y'all and stay safe and warm on your travels.

Too much of our past has been forgotten. I'm a descendant of Chief Red Eagle ( english name William Weatherford of Southwest Alabama.) He died in 1824. He was the leader of the Red Sticks of the Lower Choctaw Tribe and actually met King George 3rd to buy arms to fight the early settlers in the war of 1813 when the British attacked Washington D.C. and burned the White House

Love your videos, but the most recent ones have given me some concern for Leo's health. He seems quieter, hanging back and pale. Is Leo ill? Hope y'all are doing well.

I remember my mom talking about an Indian "princess" that she knew of growing up and is buried in an unmarked grave in Sanderson, WV. She also told me a news reporter and a reporter for a News paper tried to get her and her family to show them where is was buried because they were doing a story on her ( late 40's or early 50's) but mom and her family refused because they wanted to dig her ( Indian) up for the artifacts that was supposed to be buried with her . Mom showed me where she's buried and I guess I'm the only one who knows now.

There were no princesses in native American culture. That's European hierarchy which has nothing to do with natives. Just as in Africa, there were no kings or queens, no Cherokee princesses. All European hierarchy. In native culture as in African culture, there were chiefs and first wife second wife, and so on. No kings or queens or princesses. That's all Americans trying to be or feel like they're more than they are. Just the truth.
