  • There are a lot of low- and mid-priced baritone guitars out there. If you're wondering if the Eastwood Sidejack Baritone DLX-M (or the DLX) is for you, check out this video. I unbox a brand-new SJBDLXM, give it a solid once-over, and plug it in for a little systems check.
Find out more about this guitar on Eastwood's website (eastwoodguitars.com). Visit my surf band's website at hypersonicsecret.bandcamp.com.
The Sidejack Baritone DLX-M has a basswood body, set maple neck and a maple fretboard (the DLX has a rosewood fretboard). It uses Eastwood's P-90 pickups and the guitar is made in Indonesia. MSRP on the DLX/DLX-M is $699; a hardtail version goes for $649 (when this video went out, anyway). It sells without a case or gig bag. The Sidejack guitars are modelled after Mosrite guitars, popular especially with surf rock bands like The Ventures in the 1960s and Johnny Ramone in the '70s and '80s.
I use Rattlesnake Cables exclusively. Buy some for yourself (they are awesome, I promise) using my affiliate link to help me out a little - www.rattlesnak...

I was thinking to go for one of these Sidejack baritones but your video helped me to avoid them. The nut and crappy plastic parts are not pretty attractive and a deal breaker for me, at least on the first impressions. I have the Gretsch baritone one and I have to say it's a flawless well constructed guitar in comparison.
Did you ever tried the Rivolta Mondats VII baritone before? Thoughts?
    Thanks for the review.

I have not tried the Rivolta, will check it out. While the Sidejack will suit my purposes, I can't recommend it to another player. Had I played one first - especially THIS one - I wouldn't have bought it.

I have a ‘22 eastwood sidejack DXL LTD LMNOP… I find it to be a great sounding, great playing instrument. Agree with Indonesian quality in materials and craftsmanship but I expect inconsistency from them. Not much different than most makers, imo. However, the plastic nut. It’s strangely not even as hard as the tuner knobs. Weird decision there. I will be replacing it with bone, too. Minecame with the Les Trem ii whammy. Also weird but works great and looks cool. I’m tuning AToA. I think it’s a great guitar all around. That being said, even though I paid half the list price, I am considering getting the baritone plus and might have to pay in full. Probably installments.😂I really dig them.

I'm glad you had a good result with yours. I sold mine, and the guy who bought it is really happy with it.

@@chiba131 I also have a Danelectro baritone. It weighs about half as much, and has a slimmer, faster neck (with a metal nut!). I prefer the eastwood p90’s over the lipstick danelectros but both guitars have a wide selection of tones. They cost about the same. Tough call. I may have to keep them both.😂

Is this a genuine Eastwood or a Chinese copy? Aliexpress and Temu sell these fake ones.

I bought it from a reputable US dealer, so I assume it's a genuine Eastwood.

No firm judgement yet ... I want to get it set up and get a good nut on it before I decide if it's a keeper or not. I'm also looking for a way to increase the break angle of the strings.
