Hello again. Two more quick questions. The link here takes me to the correct LAUNCH item but it's by a company that appears foreign and not Kingbolen. Cardiag is the name showing for this link. Any thoughts... Have you ordered from this supplier ? If I go to Kingbolen site I do not see the X431 PRO3 ACE Elite model. Last question. Well double question, Does this model cover diesel trucks like 3500hd duramax , Ford and motorcycles. Thank again.
Launch is my front runner for aftermarket. it's just quick. Low lag love the video!! The old saying is obsolete with new tools they absolutely can make you a better mechanic!!
You Tube makes you a better mechanic too!!! Working at home in your garage you can become a professional also!!! A top notch scanner will get you ASE L1 certification after two years
I just ordered one. I asked launch about the differences between Pro3 with pro5 v+ and pro ace v+ elite. Basically all the same but the ace is newest tech and whatbi went for. The other is older and they upgraded it to match 2024 specs to sell off the stock. So now you know!!
I got an older cheaper version but still kicks ass! Best money ever spent on a tool, the only downside is that it runs on android 9, and I’ve been wondering if I can just buy an expensive Samsung tablet and install the app in it… idk if anyone has ever donde this
Nice review. I just bought a similar scanner. A 2024 Launch X431 Pro3 V+ 5.0 Elite. I have not had a chance to use it yet but it looks like a nice tool. I already had a few other scanners like a Thinktool Pros which is similar to this Launch, an Otofix D1, and an Innova 5610. I'm just a DIY'er but work on cars quite a bit and I like being able to access all of the information that I can. I've had the Thinktool for about 2 1/2 years and it has really helped me out. I just found your channel but look forward to checking out your other videos.
Can you explain the differences between the 2024’s Launch with topology views.- why Pro Ace, or Pro V Elite, etc etc, just can figure out which to buy!
They are all nearly the same. Each one is a unique model exclusively sold by that particular retailer. So, you buy from a dealer, not Launch. Also, support comes from the dealer you bought from. So that is what matters most, not really the tool itself.
I just ordered the x431 pro3s+v5 elite, will it program older pats keys on Fords the old large square head type without buying any special accessories and will it perform programmable module installation on abs or pcm’s.Also, when programming a new pcm or abs on a ford,gm,or Chrysler,do you need extra tools or go online to get as built data, and if so do they have a website to purchase from?I worked at a Ford dealer years ago and we had IDS and could do it through Fords own website but this is my first aftermarket coder? Thanks for any response.
Your new scanner will do PMIs and old PATS stuff but it cannot program a PCM. (No tablet type scanner can). You’d have to buy your own IDS or find an aftermarket equivalent J2534 device and a laptop running Windows 10. Look at Drew Technologies to start, their Jboxes are highly rated.
Great Video, Looks to be a great piece of kit. Can't seem to find anywhere if this will reset service functions on Porsche cars, my Topdon will not allow any service reset functions.

It can do an oil filling service.

did you ever figure out which one you need to buy. i am in the same situation you are in trying to figure out what direction i need to go. ive been on the internet trying to find a scanner that will cover automotive/trucks/ heave trucks and heavy equipment or multiple scanners to cover what i need
How does the Thinkcar 689bt compare to these? I know there is no topology, but are there any other differences? I'm thinking equally between the Kingbolen K10 and the Thinkcar 689bt.
The 689 has a smaller screen, so fewer graphs. Also the battery is much smaller, you’ll be charging it a lot. The battery on the Ace is surprising, I can do hours of work and leave it on stand-by for days.
@@robertfrancisco1193 all the launch tools that I’ve tested so far use the same software. The only additional features that more expensive ones have are special functions like resets.
The pro 3S has the pro 3S+ upgrade. If you compare that with the pro ACE they are nearly identical. Only a couple of small hardware differences and the software is virtually the same. I’d say just pick the one that you like the best or can get the best deal on.
Good Afternoon, Im about to buy the Launch X-431 Pro 3 Ace Elite and I believe you answered this question already, but just to confirm. Will this work on a GMC 3500 HD , Duramax or will I have to buy additional software and hardware ? Thank you again
My mistake . You actually did a very good job of covering this in your video and already answered the question . I believe a option for what I need is the LAUNCH X431 PRO3S+Smartlink HD Heavy Duty Truck. Kind of an overkill, since I only have two diesel vehicles but it does have the VCI. It says it covers gasoline also. The only thing is in all the listing of HD vehicles is says that it covers it does not say HD GM but only regular. I have to assume it will? Any opinions on this ? Thank you
The HD add on is designed to cover your medium and heavy duty commercial trucks. Ford F series (up to F750, if I recall correctly) are still considered light duty and can be found in the Pro 3 Ace.
Great video, thank you so much for sharing. I can see some stickers indicating 2yrs free updates, does it mean it will get a point where i have to subscribe or pay to use the scanner? Thank you
Thanks. No, it is not subscription based. The updates will just no longer be available when your two years is up. You can continue to use the scanner with the old updates. If you want to keep receiving updates, you can just buy an annual subscription for that.
Am I doing something wrong? Ordered from your link and trying to use tool. I can only read codes, can’t even erase. Is says sign in to unlock SGW and says I need a subscription for each manufacturer? My old launch did almost everything but software was only up to 2016 but it never went to a fee based AutoAuth site?
You must be working on a Chrysler product. The secure gateway is something that they started using around 2017. You have to use your Autoauth credentials in order to unlock your car. There’s an annual fee that you pay to Autoauth.
I’ve been using a Xtool D7 for a bit. It has a lot of short comings and its lag makes its graphs almost useless. I am looking at the Launch x431 real hard. It’s going to be difficult with some of the offerings from Autel. I’m curious about the scan tools that Harbor Freight released but I haven’t seen enough reviews to sway me although I love the onboard integration to all data.
So on my BMW if i need to replace a fried module with one from another car and have to re-vin and code it to my car , CAN THIS TOOL DO IT???? CAN I REFLASH MODULES THAT HAVE GONE LIMP ALSO ???? IM ABOUT TO PURCHASE BUT I NEED TO KNOW THIS STUFF , BECAUSE IM BEING TOLD I CAN ONLY USE INPA ISTA ETC SOFTWARE AND NO OTHER
The updates come all the time, so good there. Honestly though, I’ve never tried customer support. I’ll give it a try soon and report back. Probably in a video.
Sorry to be asking another question regarding this Launch product, here in the UK it is not listed as the ELITE model as you show as the model on screen, seems all other countries say it is the LAUNCH X-431 PRO 3 ACE ELITE but not here in the UK. Launch don't seem to answer any questions either regarding different models and what the different capabilities offered. Does you outer box/carton say that it is an ELITE model? Thanks
Have an issue with a 2002 Thunderbird dash lights. I'm figuring out I need to get into one of these scan tools with bidirectional, topology etc even for something this old. newest car we own is a 2021 Bronco which for now is under warranty. I'm not a pro, but do a lot of my own work. Is this the one to get? Or should I be looking at something different? There's so many of these on the market that its super confusing. I'm a Ford guy, but do some work on imports occasionally. Would like something that does all makes etc, but i'm seeing that there is no "perfect" scanner. Also I clicked your link to check out the product and it wasn't working.
In my opinion, Autel and Launch are the brands to look for. They are stable tools and get constant updates. The frustrating part is that there are so many models to choose from. This is mostly because different distributors all want a unique version of their own.
The biggest difference is that the pro3 Ace is newer and has the new DBSCar VII connector. That will allow you to communicate on CAN FD networks and (if you get the upgrade) do DoIP sessions online.
hey i find hard to find any information can this tool work on electric cars. i have ioniq 5 2021 . i would like to have tool that can code module that is faulty. not hv battery. i am talking about regular modules that can fail easy and then i need to write new vin number .
I wish you would do a video explaining the difference between the different Launch product manufacturers. Why are there so many? Are there any differences between them? Its extremely confusing when searching online. This product you are reviewing isn't even on Launch's website.
It is very confusing. There are so many different ones because the retailers each get their own unique versions to sell. Then there are the ‘house brand’ scanners and other brands. It goes on and on.
If you haven’t heard of VCDS, it’s worth a look. Full version is out of your price range, but they have a 3 VIN limited version here: www.fcpeuro.com/products/audi-vw-vcds-diagnostic-interface-ross-tech-vchv23 That’s very close to your price and it is nearly the same as what the VW dealership uses

Thanks, I’m up for a review of an Autel. There are no subscriptions with this tool. They do updates though, first two years are free. You can still use it without updates, save some money.
I'm looking for a scan tool. Buy directional I have two older Ford vehicles both with EVAP system issues. I want to buy something that will work with early 2000s just for myself I don't do this kind of work for a living but it would be nice if it worked on other vehicles but we don't buy brand new vehicles. Would you have any recommendations for around $500 or less? thank you.
This little tool by Launch is very powerful, can do bi-directional control on Fords and is very inexpensive: amzn.to/49LdypX For something that can do all vehicles I recommend the ThinkDiag 2, but it requires a subscription: shrsl.com/4dmxp Also, a video that will help you to understand the pros and cons is here: ua-cam.com/video/yNKTOdyetOc/v-deo.htmlsi=c5uxL9RsmG-hgcvI

Hello, thanks for the video. I have a doubt in which Launch model to buy... Do they all have same car compatibility? Been checking on: Pro Ace, Pro Apex, PROS, Pro3s+, TT, DYNO, ... Too many models and I am confused. Does this one you do the vid about include Tesla / EV? Thanks.

Also is there any truth to not buying units from Amazon because LAUNCH dosent honor those purchases and there can be issues with using this device in the US? Thanks
@@Mike-jh4eo this can get a little bit complicated because there are many sellers on Amazon. Launch corporate headquarters in China won’t be a good source for technical assistance or warranty claims no matter what. Your best option is to contact the seller you purchased your tool from. The seller that I’ve been working with for a while now is Kingbolen. They sell on Amazon and direct from their website. They would be the tech-support and warranty service hub that I would go to for the tools that I have. launch pro 3 or otofix d1 pros sub on launch are far more expensive not sure which to get unless ace is far better tool to use
What OTHER vehicle can it do a Cylinder Balance Test on? 1989 Chevrolet Camaro 305 TPI V8 ? Others?
Ford is the only brand that has that particular test that I know of
@@ToolDemostoyotas have it too.

That’s a good idea, I’ll see what I can do.
Hey, Steve. I just emailed to follow up on our last conversation.
Okay thanks.
the battery is 6000mah. The crp Models have 6300mah
Good to know, thanks
Can this tool read real milage?
Yes it can, but only on vehicles that allow it.
@@ToolDemos And if I am not wrong it can even manipulate mileage 😎
I'm looking for a scan tool. Buy directional I have two older Ford vehicles both with EVAP system issues. I want to buy something that will work with early 2000s just for myself I don't do this kind of work for a living but it would be nice if it worked on other vehicles but we don't buy brand new vehicles. Would you have any recommendations for around $500 or less? thank you.
This little tool by Launch is very powerful, can do bi-directional control on Fords and is very inexpensive: amzn.to/49LdypX
For something that can do all vehicles I recommend the ThinkDiag 2, but it requires a subscription: shrsl.com/4dmxp
Also, a video that will help you to understand the pros and cons is here: ua-cam.com/video/yNKTOdyetOc/v-deo.htmlsi=c5uxL9RsmG-hgcvI
@@ToolDemos Thank you very much for your information. The first one sounds ideal but I am inclined to buy something else in a couple years or so... I would like one that works with most vehicles. Is there any that are bluetooth that do not have yearly upgrade costs? If I don't get another vehicle, do I have to still upgrade? I can spend a little more money for a better one. Would like to stay under 500.00
Thanks again!!
@@KelleyLeach the Autel MK808 is a classic, well known and reliable. It’ll get you what you want under $500. Updates are mostly to add newer cars.
@@ToolDemosis there a great scan tool that offers topology mapping for under $500?
@@lydellleopold5884 no, none that I know of. That seems to be a feature of $1000ish tools.
Thanks.
Too many versions for sure, every distributor has their own specs. This one does not include Tesla, but there are some that do.
@@ToolDemos Thank you very much for the answer. I ended up buying this same model but for Europe. The only thing I didn't like much was the internals, I checked them and hardware is kind of very old (2018) so it's confusing they call it: NEW 2024.
Anyway, awsome device!
As far as using this tool in the US, I’ve had no problems at all, connecting to the Internet and diagnosing USDM cars .
@@ToolDemos Thank you for the feedback and great informative videos!!
Do you know if Launch Tech USA supports this scan tool? Some scan tools I am seeing are not meant for the North American market, I wonder if this is one of them?
No they don’t, it’s sold by Kingbolen. I’m glad you brought that question up because it seems like I need to do a video to explain how that works.
...@@ToolDemos.." seems like I need to do a video to explain how that works......"
Please do make it. You probably have no Idea how confusing this all is particularly to persons outside the USA. If some tools aren't meant for the NA. market where are they meant for?
Is the software global and does it cover JDM vehicles? Why do the user menus show a zillion makes but when one asks about a tool for shop use they want the VIN for YOUR particular car?
(Not fair to ask a USA mechanic about JDM. Being right hand drive, not sure if they are allowed in your country).
@@jackjohnson9989 great questions, I will start working on that. To answer the JDM question, yes they are allowed here, but need to be 25 years old. Very rare to see a RHD here.
