I started crying at the table while playing chess with a couple of other patients and that made a few others cry. it really hit me hard. it still makes me tear up a bit, but I am home now and eight years clean. It kind of kept me going during those dark times. Blake doesn't know it but he did me a big favor that day.
This song was played at least once a day on Armed Forces Radio in Afghanistan during my 3 year venture. Whenever played, every ear (and conversation) stopped...you could read the emotions in every face - Military and Civilians. Thanks Blake, for touching so many hearts" that want to go home" as they defend our great Nation so many miles away.

But that’s why we have our brothers and sisters with us always. I’ve found something much deeper than blood In my military family. Nights spent up late just talking about who we are and how did we get here. Nights crying on my brothers shoulder because sometimes I just don’t know what to do or I have old night mares resurfacing. Nights where I in turn have a brother or sister crying on my shoulder due to old night mares or memories coming back. Fears of losing one another so we hold on tight to each other and make every second count. Watching them leave and knowing you may not see each other again for a very long time. But there’s always more family waiting around the corner. We’re here for you always. Wether you’re still in or out. Wether your across the world or at the barracks party next door. And then I was asked to come back in a few days for the real audition…. I left playing drums to be a full time pilot…. Better money… but this song is absolutely me and the girl that has had my back for more than 35 years. I’m writing this from my bunk in Somalia …. My last rotation. If I had it to do it all over 40 years ago…we would have moved to Nashville ….Maybe… But home is anywhere she is.

It's December 2024 and hearing this song for the first time. I was actually watching a UA-cam video on loneliness by Mark Dejesus and he mentioned this song. I have tears streaming down my face as I wtite this. I am 52 years with no family contacts, no friends, no children and I have never been married. I have struggled with loneliness and then isolation for as most of my life. I am healing from past trauma by the grace of God but the journey into freedom and wholeness has been brutal. Thank you for this song even though I never really had a home to go to. My heart is healing and for the first time I feel like I am coming back home to myself. This song has reintroduced me to the self I had abandoned so many years ago. I have been weeping for 3 days now and it has brought me much emotional healing. Who knew but God has a way of touching us in unexpected ways.

And then I was asked to come back in a few days for the real audition…. I left playing drums to be a full time pilot…. Better money… but this song is absolutely me and the girl that has had my back for more than 35 years.

Just started watching the American Voice and had never heard of this chap before. I have to say having stalked his music, I can understand why he is so popular. He is a wonderful musician and emotes beautifully while singing. I am going to have to investigate more country and western singers to see what I have been missing. It's December 2024 and hearing this song for the first time. I was actually watching a UA-cam video on loneliness by Mark Dejesus and he mentioned this song. I have tears streaming down my face as I wtite this. I am 52 years with no family contacts, no friends, no children and I have never been married. I have struggled with loneliness and then isolation for as most of my life. I am healing from past trauma by the grace of God but the journey into freedom and wholeness has been brutal. Thank you for this song even though I never really had a home to go to. My heart is healing and for the first time I feel like I am coming back home to myself. This song has reintroduced me to the self I had abandoned so many years ago. I have been weeping for 3 days now and it has brought me much emotional healing. Who knew but God has a way of touching us in unexpected ways.
