My dear you're speaking about foreigners in Botswana. The same thing happens in Kenya. Please change your title, it's misleading. I've had the same treatment from Kenyan's.

Richie your comments on race are spot on and have touched a nerve in me. Grew up in Kenya and left for work in the gulf region in my thirties where I still am. I was shocked to be aware of my identity as a black man a fact which grew on me as I missed job opportunities and growth. It only became clear with the passage of time as I became conscious of subtle expressions by others on account of my race. The end result,I revelled in my blackness, my melanin to the point where I acknowledge every black face I meet on the streets irrespective of nationality. That slight nod of the head to emphasize our pan Africanism common interest.

I am a Kenyan who grew up in Botswana, having went to both private and government schools. My school was not predominately white , it was predominately black with a few indians. I did not experience xenophobia from my schoolmates or other schools, i did experience colourism and classism in private school . Alot of students even teachers would think im not as smart as other simply bcs i was dark skinned, its so idiotic. In Botswana, Batswana take respect towards elders very seriously, its not hard to learn the greeting especially being there for 2 years, just learn to say Dumela, re teng, ee rra, ee mma and your good. Adelles experience doesn't paint the picture for the whole of Botswana or even the majority, I think her experience is within the private school, elite world. Most Batswana are respectful, they speak english if you dont understand setswana and for the most part are not xenophobic ( there is still xenophobia in botswana and if you dont agree think about how zimbabweans are viewed and treated here)

@@priscillancube9193 when I was younger they were harassed by police, alot of them are undocumented so you could say it's warranted, but my mother who is not a Zimbabwean was often mistook for one and made very many visits to the police station until she proved that she's not answering illegal immigrant, one time she just left home to pick my sister and i from school. The police harassed me too. Some people call Zimbabweans by derogatory words, almost as if it's a sin to be Zimbabwean, like they are less than. But I believe this is just a few people, most people are not like that.

In Botswana we love our native language and any Africa country do. If you are in a foreign country learn the basic words such as greeting that's how you break the eyes.Otherwise we do know the definition of Xenophobia. Botswana is not xenophobic unless if you yourself have attitude.

And majority of those in private schools are foreigners it means they were treating each other badly as foreigners now she wants to pain people of Botswana with the same paint. Foreigners have this tendency of isolating themselves from the local, creating their own planet in other people 's territory, even in the workplace, they always isolate themselves from us. Should we kneel before them and beg they NO.We respect their space and from there when they don't know how to speak our languages they say xenophobia. Some of us speak more that 2 native languages we can't afford to speak English the whole day. We have a life to live beyond English.

Then the caption or headline of this clip is misleading. The racism had very little to do with Botswana. The racism for that matter was from local Batswana.
She misses the deep rooted black consciousness by seemingly preferring a lifestyle of whites.
She admits that she felt comfortable not belonging.
She missed experiencing tha culture of Batswana because of an artificial envìon̈ent.

Just imagine going to other people 's country and feel like they must hear all from you and being treated like Queen Elizabeth. I am happy it happened in Botswana 🇧🇼 and the world and the continent will understand how is it to be labeled xenophobic while you are not as the whole continent knows as we South African are xenophobic .The neighboring Brothers/ sisters goes to other countries and once there. they want to set their own rules to those citizens and if one says no, is XENOPHOBIC. Some goes there looking for opportunities even they know in that country the opportunity he/she sees in illegally, whe you say no you are XENOPHOBIC. in South Africa foreigners were here even before democratic 1994 from Lesotho, Botswana, Swaziland etc and they behaved well where we didn't even think they are outsiders. But after 1994 they whole continent want to come to SA illegally and do illegal things and we don't have to nothing. Let's visits our neighbors and respect them they belongs there.
