Lattice Multiplication Example

Parents and Teachers! Lattice Multiplication is a great multiplication strategy for students who struggle with the standard algorithm. If you have a student who is learning how to solve multi-digit multiplication problems, then the lattice method is for you! Many students need help with multiplication tricks and strategies when they are first learning how to multiply mutli-digit numbers. In this video, I will show you how to set up the boxes for lattice multiplication for a 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problem. Please let me know what you think in the comments! In 2014 I posted my VERY FIRST video all about how to do Lattice Multiplication! To celebrate 10 years on UA-cam, I am redoing this video for you! My methods of creating videos has changed significantly since then, but the goal is still the same: to help students, parents, and teachers learn and teach math in ways that make it accessible for EVERYONE! I get a ton of comments on my old video about how long this method takes, or what a waste of paper it is - and while I agree that this method takes longer than the standard algorithm, for some students it is the perfect stepping stone they need. I’ve worked with thousands of students across the globe, and many of them are frustrated by math. If I am able to give them a method that works for them, and avoids the frustration and tears, I say it’s worth the extra time!
