As a proud owner of the one of the 1st printed Reek of Putrefaction vinyl records(which sounded like when trying to brew kilju, you didn't let the yeast settle, or alternatively the guy doing the mixing was just really .. really inebriated), I'm happy to say that Carcass just matures as old wine. Exquisite. Whilst fast approaching half a century of existence, speed dosn't matter so much to me anymore. Hooks do. And I'm happy to hear they've still got it.
"Evolution marches on. The scythe is remorseless. I hope the scythe's remorseless swing can bring some comfort to you all." - Alan Johnson, Peep Show (Series 8, Episode 1) I'm almost willing to bet that they lifted this song title from this hilarious Johnson bit. I truly, genuinely hope they did.
This album exceeded every single one of my expectations. Definitely a contender for album of the year, at the very least in my top 3 so far. Badass music, Carcass never gets old
This is gonna be a long one so bear with me. Carcass is a band I’ve been obsessed with ever since a friend lent me his copy of Symphonies of Sickness back when I was 16, needless to say he never got his CD back. I was just blown away by the creativity of this band. Even though bands on the extreme spectrum of metal were already around by the time Carcass released Reek of Putrefaction I don’t think anyone was doing anything quite as special as what they were doing. I’m a big horror fan and the best analogy I can think of to explain why I love this music is that it gives me the same kick or rush that I get from a good horror movie. It’s clearly not for everyone, but it’s supposed to be scary, it’s supposed to be disturbing and freak you out a little bit, but always in a fun and clever way. Reek of Putrefaction (the song) exemplifies this very well, it’s a musical version of a horror movie to me. The way it builds up, the eerie sounds, the freaky melodies and arrangements, the brutality, it gives me chills every time. Even their artwork separated them from the rest. You see something like a Cannibal Corpse album cover and it traumatizes you, it is shock value in its purest form. But Carcass didn’t have to rely on that, they were more subtle. When you see something like the original cover of Reek of Putrefaction, if you see it from a distance you don’t make much of it, you see a pattern or a collage of some sort. It’s not until you see the artwork up close that you realize these are pictures of actual dead people, taken from autopsies and medical journals, and arranged in such an artistic and disturbing way that you can’t help but think this came straight out of some serial killer’s scrapbook. One thing is creating a painting of something fantastical and gruesome, and another is putting images of what death actually looks like, the decay of the human body seems like such a taboo subject and something we all live almost in denial of. Then the medical lyrics, instead of being gimmicky it just worked so well because of how thoroughly they committed to it, and of course they eventually grew out of that concept and kept innovating the genre. Carcass never settled for just one thing and constantly evolved their sound and tested their limits and creativity, like all true artists do. So anyway, this band means a lot to me and I’m so glad they’re not only still making music but delivering stuff that’s deserving of being in their (in my opinion) flawless discography. Thank you Carcass for being such a cool part of my life and hope to see you guys back in Mexico soon. Salud!
Great post. They were so unique & ahead of their time. Plus they never allowed themselves to stagnate. Also the way they so clearly distinguished themselves from Napalm Death, despite sharing Bill in the early days & essentially pioneering the same brand new genre together, is an inspiration. Their british pitch black humour & underlying message in some of the lyrics/cover concept, while both being fairly subtle, gave them an edge over say Autopsy & Cannibal's more b-movie gore imagery.
Thank you for sharing your story. I personally first heard them around my youth around the mid to late nighties. My first carcass listen was Heartwork and I thought it was really different at the time. Necroticism is still my favorite Carcass record, but they never had a bad record in my opinion.
Well said. Symphonies (it was just before the release of Necroticism) was the first album I heard too and I've been hooked since. Carcass is my favorite band by far. Jeff's lyrics always deliver and give you alot to think about (even when they are painting a clear and grim picture). He's brilliant, in my book. I, too, am thankful that this amazing band is still making new music. I remember when I thought Swansong was the end. I hope I don't have that feeling again for a very long time!
Best Metal Band. Innovative refined musical solutions a sublime composition that springs from a three-dimensional and deep exploration of the band's style. In addition, the production is of extraordinary quality. A mix done upstream by choosing the right rope the best stem the skin. This is an outstanding job. This is not a song this is a solid manual that musicians not only metal should take as an example.

I just absolutely love how this album has a little bit of all their styles! That intro could've been taken straight from Swansong! This is how you make an album! Take note kids!
Three complete legends. Carcass are in the same grouping as The Prodigy for me. They are their own genre, instantly recognisable and can evolve while never losing their edge. Dan's been a great addition and his playthroughs of tracks are inspiring.
Hell yea!!! I dont think I will ever get over Surgical Steel, but, it always is badass to hear Carcass come up with new brutal stuff. I wish they could do a remake of Descanting the Insalubrious.

Absolutely fuck no, I think nostalgia is overriding sense for a lot of you, the album is a passable effort, if it was anyone else you wouldn't be saying this.
I've been a carcass fan since 89 when i received a kassette i ordered out of the back of metal mag. I dont even think the first song was over and i was hooked. Carcass is one of the few bands in my life thats never disappointed
It's been a year since this modern classic, Torn Arteries, hit the music world. An abstract collection of thrashers that bind nihilism, philosophy, chaos, and the prolonging spirit of heavy metal! This song symbolically stands as today's Hallowed Be Thy Name, and date I say, it's better? Steer's variety in each rhythm and solo track blows Carcass beyond a metal band and into absolutely iconic status.
I was about to say that this is probably Carcass' softer song but after the intro everything changed. The into is quite good anyways and original. I love the fact that this legendary band keeps making music. Bill still has the groove! Edit: the guy with plastic on his face is so Incarnated Solvent...
Greetongs from Vicont band, Russia. So good to hear from you after so many years! When I was kid, Carcass was one of the first metal bands I've listened to. And now we are playing music inspired by your songs. Hope one day we'll play together. Carcass for life! \m/
Me: 00:00-01:13 “Hmm, not sure if this isn’t a bit limp” 01:14, massive grin immediately on face, “How could I have doubted the masters?!” Fuck, Carcass just keep on getting better with age :)
Carcass its always on another level... They are their own league. Such bettersweet melodies, strange riffing feeling, soloing bluesy/rocky/melodic scales over heavy stuff... And all this over dozens of provacative, inteligent lyrics. Those guys rock BIG time.
Bill Steer at this point is one of the most CRIMINALLY overlooked guitar players in metal history. The precision, tone and sheer volume of those riffs in this song is insane. This is a crazy good song by the English Legends

A million other death metal bands are now thinking: "What are we going to do now? Carcus is writing real songs with killer dynamics and are still heavier than heavy. Maybe we'll just play faster and nobody will notice?" ;-)
This song is BADASS... Carcass still sounds great even after all these years.
Absolute LEGENDS!
The album is absolutely outstanding! I love every song on it.
Awesome album, the riffs are catchy, guitar work of Steer is impeccable. Jeff’s vocals are great. Definitely worth the long anticipation
Carcass never dissapoints! Such an amazing album. The musicianship is stellar.
This video draw a big smile on my face, while I was having a quick flashback to the Swansong era. Loved it to the bone. Thank you Carcass 👌
Honestly, 3 years in and this song still sounds as awesome as the first day I heard it. A Carcass classic (and a metal classic) close to Heartwork.
after hearing thousands of bands, this is my fav one...
This is actually my fav song from the album, alongisde The Devil Rides Out and Under the Scalpel Blade. I'm glad they did a video on it.
Love this, especially how it transitions from the bluesy intro to the beautiful brutal Carcass that we all know!
Que nivel siguen demostrando...y que interminable energía
Only Bill Steer can make a Melody Maker sound so heavy!
I don't think it's a Gibson, the headstock is way too narrow. Looks like a Heritage
@@Laburnus It's definitely a Melody Maker. Those have a thinner headstock than the traditional one.
@@nevermindthworld just checked and you are correct thanks. The entire video I was looking at that slim headstock , and couldn't figure out what guitar is it.
keep comming back to this music video. Thanks so much Carcass you guys rule!!!
Impressionante como o carcass consegue mesclar melodia e bastante peso nas guitarras de forma brilhante. Umas das melhores bandas de metal extremo e metal em geral. 🤘🤘
Exato! \m/
Resumiu com perfeição.
I just absolutely love how this album has a little bit of all their styles! That intro could've been taken straight from Swansong!
This is how you make an album! Take note kids!
Thus album is a gonna be looked at as a benchmark. Incredible.
Three complete legends. Carcass are in the same grouping as The Prodigy for me. They are their own genre, instantly recognisable and can evolve while never losing their edge. Dan's been a great addition and his playthroughs of tracks are inspiring.
This is my favorite track on the album. Frickin great album.
Ol Bill n Jeff have reclaimed their throne..long live the legends
Hell yea!!! I dont think I will ever get over Surgical Steel, but, it always is badass to hear Carcass come up with new brutal stuff.
I wish they could do a remake of Descanting the Insalubrious.
Get over it? Me either... it's arguably a top ten album of all time
When CAPTIVE BOLT PISTOL or CADAVER POUCH CONVEYOR SYSTEM begin.... Holy shit. You know you're in for it!!!
"The....monolithic shambles....of Dr
Temple Grandiiiin!!!"
3:22 min ✌️ this solo ❤️ this rhythm guitar part💕.. The reason why I love Bill's music since the 90's 👌🤘
Wish I'd been as cool as Dan in my 30s. Hope to be half as cool as Jeff and Bill in my 50s.
Where do you see coolness?
@@IlDadoufficial I just see it in the lads doing what they do. They have so much confidence and I wish I did too. I'm almost 41 and never really had any.
@@LittleMissGrosser ❤
Best song from the album, glad it finally with music video
Best album since Heartwork well done Carcass.
Dont speak for everybody, speak for yourself. Swansong was dope aswell.
Necroticism?
Absolutely fuck no, I think nostalgia is overriding sense for a lot of you, the album is a passable effort, if it was anyone else you wouldn't be saying this.
Appreciation post for these guys..... Still getting me through bouts of depression. Awesome musicians with tons of personality.
I love Carcass ! Saludos desde Argentina !!!
0:28 the drum maaan gives me the chills
Excelente trabajo Carcass como siempre los mejores
Good stuff.
I like the Swansong vibe and I think that is the full grown Carcass.
Way to go, guys!
Swansong was the blossoming into melodic death from crust punk grindcore
Love the build up to the grooviness
4:14 is the best riff I hearth in months :) So so enjoyable!
I was about to say that this is probably Carcass' softer song but after the intro everything changed. The into is quite good anyways and original. I love the fact that this legendary band keeps making music. Bill still has the groove!
Edit: the guy with plastic on his face is so Incarnated Solvent...
Now this is the metal I want to listen!! 🔥🔥🔥
Mighty mighty Carcass. All albums classics.
Carcass is amazing, I had the opportunity to saw them Live 3 years ago 🤘
Incredible album. I'm ready to hoist this right up there with Heartwork after just one listen.
Greetongs from Vicont band, Russia. So good to hear from you after so many years!
When I was kid, Carcass was one of the first metal bands I've listened to. And now we are playing music inspired by your songs. Hope one day we'll play together. Carcass for life! \m/
Death Certificate
every time you hear every album from carcass, they have a very thick characteristic, yeahhhh this is carcass!!! 🔥🤘🏻
Parabéns 🎉Jeff Walker.... Continue moendo nossos ouvidos 👂👂👂👂
death-n-roll. прикольно. если весь альбом будет в таком стиле - очень буду рад
Carcass nunca decepciona. Pura elegancia.
Me: 00:00-01:13 “Hmm, not sure if this isn’t a bit limp”
01:14, massive grin immediately on face, “How could I have doubted the masters?!”
Fuck, Carcass just keep on getting better with age :)
Carcass its always on another level... They are their own league. Such bettersweet melodies, strange riffing feeling, soloing bluesy/rocky/melodic scales over heavy stuff... And all this over dozens of provacative, inteligent lyrics. Those guys rock BIG time.
I wanna talked about this album it’s fooooking great and the drum sound is unreal perfect toms snare cymbals awwwww hell to the yoiiizaaa
I am so pleased to hear their new album. Carcass forever!
The new album is awesome 😍😍😍
Whole album: 11/10!
*They brought out the plastic bags again!*
The only classic band worth listening to, a real pleasure. Thanks CARCASS!!! Argentina is waiting for a new visit.
This album is beyond great music, it transcends metal and music, it's high art
I have a man crush on Bill Steer!!😂
The best riffs. Ever.
Damn that opening riff was legit! Really dig the new song, Carcass always bring the heat. 🤘
Torn Arteries is the disc of the year \m/!!!!
Very impressive, Carcass.
Bill will always be me favourite.
And our most accomplished and brilliant lyricist, Jeff!
Not bad, Dan! Love the drums!
It's nice to come home from work to new Carcass!!! \m/
As always.
Carcass delivers.
Without a doubt, as good an album as any they've done before. Love it
