Item number 5 in the picture is where you plug the clipped square end of the USB cable into the printer and the flat end of the USB cable needs to be plugged into your computer. That should resolve the error message you are getting.

hi so i just got my new hp deskjet 1512 which i plan on using with my windows 7 64 bit laptop but for some reason when I try to connect it, it says "USB device not recognized". now ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and even a system restore before plugging it in again and yet it still doesn't work. +Jenson Moo The tray extender should just swing back within the output tray. I do know that sometimes with a new printer, they seem stuck, but please apply a little more pressure to swinging the door back, it should go.

Bought one 3 months ago, used it to print about 10 pages in December, tried to use it today and it prints so lightly you cannot read what is printed. WTF?
Great White7 With an inkjet printer since the ink is water based if you go extended periods of time without printing anything the ink exposed to the elements will dry out. I would advise you to run the printhead cleaning utility to clean up the dried ink. It is recommended that you keep your printer plugged in and turned on at all times as it will periodically use a touch of ink to keep the printhead from drying out.

+ Cool boy our printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. A little ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality. There is no way to bypass this feature.

Item number 5 in the picture is where you plug the clipped square end of the USB cable into the printer and the flat end of the USB cable needs to be plugged into your computer. hi so i just got my new hp deskjet 1512 which i plan on using with my windows 7 64 bit laptop but for some reason when I try to connect it, it says "USB device not recognized". now ive tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and even a system restore before plugging it in again and yet it still doesn't work. Great White7 With an inkjet printer since the ink is water based if you go extended periods of time without printing anything the ink exposed to the elements will dry out. I would advise you to run the printhead cleaning utility to clean up the dried ink. It is recommended that you keep your printer plugged in and turned on at all times as it will periodically use a touch of ink to keep the printhead from drying out.

I love my pictures and would love to see if I am going be able to print from my phone or continue to pay Walgreens for all my prints...I have been working with this printer since 8pm eastern and I have not accomplished anything !
