Sir i have a query, pls resolve it. In Springer Nature journals, there is an option to fill regarding 'Circulation/Distribution',what should be put here?Kindly suggest...Options are like 1-29,30-99,......50000 or greater
That's the estimated print run of the journal you will be submitting to. You'll need to ask the publisher of the journal you are submitting to, to give a distribution estimate.
Hi Has, brilliant thankyou! I got a quesiton, whether you should seek permission to reuse figures from a published article in a review article before submitting it to various journals or wait until you receive a positive review and confirmation of publication in a specific journal before seeking permission.
Permission is generally needed once your manuscript is accepted. Before acceptance, I have not seen if any journal demands this. However, before submitting any journal, make sure you will get the permission whenever it will be needed. Some journal's publishers ask for money for giving the permission to reuse their figures/tables and in that case if you check at the eleventh hour you may face a problem, especially when you are not interested to pay.
Thank you so much sir for this beautiful explanation. Sir, what is the right time to take the permission? If I take the permission after the acceptance, then it is ok or I have to take permission before the acceptance.
It is good to take permission once your paper is accepted. Some figures/tables are not free to use. Therefore, before using any published figures/tables, you should check and make sure that they can be used free of cost. Otherwise no need to check if you are ok to pay for some figures/tables.
Thank you for your video. I have a question, what should I do if I want to reuse a figure from an Elsevier publishing article, and I can't find the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) when I select the journal of the publishing house I want to publish?
You may write to journal editor regarding this matter. He would have some idea about this. Otherwise, what you can do, you may make a slight change and reuse with proper citation.
Thank you very much. That's a great guide for using copyrighted material. I was wondering though how you deal with the requests if the paper is not yet accepted and possibly rejected. Do you need to make a request every time you want to submit to a different journal or let's say if the figure number changes?
It's always better to take the permission when your manuscript gets accepted. But before reusing the materials, it's a good idea to check whether the materials are available as free or paid. If it's a paid, you must not take permission before the acceptance. To avoid the permission of paid materials, you can make some changes, and then only citation is ok.
@@chandrahashbti Thank you very much. Very useful content. "It's a good idea to check whether the materials are available as free or paid." - How to check whether it is available as free or paid?
Thank you sir! Very helpful If I want to use an image in a UA-cam video, which option should I select? Is it ok to modify the image and just mention the publisher in the description?
I want to know what does the reference number indicate? You showed 2 figures with reference 120 and re 132. Is it the ereference number/manuscript ID of the article that you took permission from, or is it the reference number that you enter when you request for permission? Please clarify as I could not understand it properly.
Actually I contacted one published about reprinting the figure as it was and they told me that I do not need their permission because the report was public. Therefore, your information is not accurate in the second part.
Hi, you mostly spoke about permission but I am curious the practice itself, how can we take it? Am I allowed to screenshot the figure from online published source article or other document and cite it as figure again or do I cite it as image? I use Harvard citation format.
The screenshot is ok but you should use the image from an original published article. The only citation is not enough if you are using an image without any modifications. You should take the permission and give the credit accordingly.
What if I change the publisher and journal once my article is ready. Like we have selected particular publisher in CCC but at the eleventh hour we change to other journal. Then???
@@farhadali5049 This is very usual. There would not be any problem. It is only not recommended to change the publisher/journal after submission the article.

Hi sir, I did the exactly same. But for me, price showed not available. I continued the process and applied... It has been 15 days. Still not getting any confirmation. At the same time, I requested for another one, which I got licence no. within a week. Why it is delaying? Is there anything I can do to get the approval fast. And for one more image, i got "copyrights are excluded from rightslink". So I mailed copyright office. Not a single reply. But I know one of the author mentioned in the article... In that case, can I ask her directly about the image? Or any other option?? Reply me 🙏🏼 it's urgent 😭 my article is on the way!!
In the case of rightslink, it gives immediate approval. Author approval can be considered but not very much impactful. It's always best if publisher permits you to reuse the copyright materials.
Sir, if I follow these steps, is it legal according to IPR ? and do I have to pay for all the individual papers? What about Indian authors because there is option for Indian currency?
@@chandrahashbti Sir,I am making a poster presentation where I have to include some figures whose quality should be good i.e. when zooming the picture one can see everything clear, but I don't know how to do it. Can you help me doing the same?

Most of the good publishers (e.g., Elsevier, Springer, etc.) provide the downloadable link on their website. In some cases, if it not available, you can take snapshot or crop the particular image (using Adobe Acrobat pro), but even you will have to take permission.
