    Note: I mistakenly said the X100f only had 1/2000 shutter speed. That's wrong. Just a mistake. it's 1/4000 sec shutter speed. These things happen sometimes.

    the lumix lx series also has a high flash sync speed and this is really a perfect upgrade flash from the pop up flash on a lot of those. Varies model to model which have hot shoes and whatnot, but the info I've seen goes back to lx3 up to current on that. Makes some of those really nice pocketable setups.

      I really like the lux Jr on my Olympus RC and OM4. Heck, it even works great on my nimolta X570. It's a great flash for film cameras especially.

      @@RobertHamm I'm heavily considering one to use with my Oly em10 iv and my old but still great lumix lx3. I have a great nissin speedlight for the oly, but it's amazing how small it looks until you try and keep it handy! But especially for street shooting, the lx3 and this look like a super portable little kit. I just was reading about the flash sync speed on the lx3 and that's a huge selling point for this thing.

    A slight correction for you about focal plane shutters. The shutter sync speed is the fastest shutter you can use with a flash, not the only speed. The reason is anything faster the shutter starts closing before it’s fully opened. Causing an uneven exposure. But if you slow it down, the shutter still opens fully and works fine with the flash.

    Nice video. But constantly moving that mic over your shoulder detracts from the overall content. Good info though! I think this video would be better as a podcast than actual video.

    The only problem I would have with this flash is you can't ajust it to bounce. I shoot with the x100v, But it looks really cool

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 роки тому +5

      I've used the EFX-20 for years and not having bounce has never been a problem. That's part of the appeal of the lower guide number strobes, they are great just pointing forward. If I wanted a strobe that I could bounce, I would probably want a more powerful strobe.

      Robert, i have the X100V and love the fill flash possibilities the leaf shutter give me. Can you tell the flash duration at maximum power this flash needs to iluminate?

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 роки тому +1

      I don't know the exact t-time of the flash from Godox. However, it's a xeon flash. That technology is between 1/10,000 second and 1/20,000 second intensity dependent with the shorter time representing lower power pops.
      For use with the x100 series, none of that will matter. Just put it on and use it. I have found it works at all apertures without vignetting.

    It won’t work on a camera with a cold shoe because it shorts on the shoe. You have to put a piece of electrical tape over the shoe before you put it on your camera.

  • @michaelschmitt5413

    If you use it on a camera with a long lens (dimensional length), the lens will create a shadow.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, but only when shooting on the wide end of the lens. If zoomed in, then you won't see it.

    I am not understanding one thing. If someone can help.
    Let's say I shoot film using sunny 16. On a sunny day with my iso and shutter speed matching do I need to close at f16 or follow the flash diagram recommendation?

    Hey Robert, great video, it's been impossible to find good information about this flash with vintage film cameras. I'm having an issue with mine and I'm wondering if you could shed some light, excuse the pun. I have the Pentax Honeywell H1a film camera. I bought the Godox figuring it would be a great small flash I can use with this camera for lower light situations, indoors etc. I currently have 400ISO film installed. I plugged the sync cable into the X (PC) port and then into the flash unit. Set the shutter to the X setting at around 1/50th (between the labelled 60 and 30 settings) Used the dial on the back to set the power using the distance/ISO method but when I take the picture it doesn't trigger the flash. The flash works when testing. But it is not triggered by the camera. Is there an obvious reason this isn't working? or could my sync cable be broken/not working. Hoping its not the sync port. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  Рік тому +2

      The likelihood is that the mechanism inside the camera isn't working. If you could verify that other strobes work with the x sync socket then you would know there was an issue with the communication from the strobe to the camera.
      It could be many things. But, as it was designed, if all the connections were working properly, it would flash. I would troubleshoot between different cameras and strobes and see if I could determine a pattern. You could be out of luck on this one. Good luck.

    I'm wondering do I need to get a Flash? My camera doesn't have a Flash Built-in But I'm wondering if it would just be better to take pictures without a Flash even in dark environments Or maybe just using a diffused warm video light Instead Because doesn't have Flash just throw out hard light which is pretty undesirable? I've always avoided using flashes But I don't want to be in a situation where I need one and I don't have 1 Because I'm going on a trip and I want to be ready to take pictures

      Knowing how to use flash in photography is the next step in creativity. You should probably start learning about the medium and then make a decision on what will be best for you. There is nothing wrong with ambient light photography, but flash opens up the night, darkens the day, and everything in-between. The idea of an on camera strobe only making undesirable hardight is just not true. Master the flash and light your photography however you want. Cheers.

      @RobertHamm hmmm Well I've been using SLR and DSLR cameras for about 30yrs now and have used a flash before long ago with film but typically use large apature lenses currently so even night photography hasn't been an issue but i dont take picturs a lot in recient years . I do have bicolor video lights and small ones that go on a cold shoe i wonder if that would give similar results as a flash.

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  Рік тому +1

      If you haven't used flash in over 30 years of photography then I'd say it's about time. It'll be even easier to learn because of the instant results digital cameras allow. I learned flash photography in my late teens on a Canon T70. But if you don't want to get going with strobes, don't worry about it. Although you watched at least one of my videos, you may not know that I'm a wedding photographer. It's all I do. Using flash is extremely important for my company and photographers. As portrait photographers, the value of flash and knowledge of technical implementation can't be understated.
      As far as your question about constant lighting, yes. You can do that as well. Good luck.

    What is the maximum possible Shutter Speed with this Flash?

    • @RobertHamm
      @RobertHamm  Рік тому

      That depends on your camera. Most cameras can sync around 1/200. The manual says 1/60, but I've had good luck with it at 1/200. Your results may vary.
