    Hi mate, living in the UK bike thefts are out of control especially in London where I work. I carry two of these (XENA) for my front and rear discs and I must admit they do make a difference having these on ya bike....recommend as a good disc lock 👍

  • @oyleyhands1332
    @oyleyhands1332 3 роки тому +1

    A word of warning about those Kovix disc locks, the alloy is quite soft so dont fit it near the swinging arm calipers or fork legs..it does not take a lot of impact where the lock barrel is to pinch the alloy in to the degree that you cannot get the lock off the disk.
    Where you had it fitted it would take only inches, if that, of bike movement to hit the caliper if the bike rolled off the stand.
    Just look how thin the metal is on the end of the lock surrounding the lock barrel.
    I parked my bike on a slight slope and when I took it off the sidestand it rolled back slightly and the lock caught the swinging arm, only lightly.. and although the key would turn..the spring loaded barrel would not release. In fact, thinking about it, I had not even taken it off the sidestand as it was still down, I must have just taken the weight off it a little and it rolled back due to the slope of the ground.
    That was me stuck there for two hours or more in cold and wet weather waiting for the recovery service and then an hour or more for him to get the lock off.
    Yes it is a reasonably secure lock but that slight impact had me stranded.
    By the way..it could be a potential thief who slightly moves the bike and you are in the same situation...stuck going nowhere.
    My lock was not old,it was brand new and the first time I had taken it out with me, I bought it to replace and old lock and I had never experienced a problem with that, I just thought the Kovix was neater and a hi-vis colour to deter a potential thief.
    I bought two and I won't be using the other one.
    Be warned.. !!!
    I just revisited this after watching the last minute or so of your video and had mixed thoughts on the positioning of the lock...there could be an argument to fit the lock in a position hard up against the swinging arm or a caliper as I suspect my bike rolling a little may have caused the lock to have more impact to cause the body to pinch the barrel...maybe without that movement the impact may not have been enough to damage the lock...its a tough call.
    Either way, the metal of the body is weak and thin in the lock barrel area.

    You might be able to recharge the lithium battery cheek before recharging and if so you need a lithium battery charger and with the alarm going off the sounds like one buzz sound to turn the alarm on and tow buzz to turn the alarm sound off if not it the other way around hope this help like the video keep them coming mark

    Is that also a Sensor alarm ?? ie if a HD or other Duff Duff goes past it will set it off ?? That can be annoying if set in a noisy area.

      I was thinking the same thing, under a minute most of the time.
      Actually as a retired Mechanic I know how to use a dead blow hammer to defeat the alarm and lock.
      Or do what one Thief did took the wheel off and left it behind with the lock.

      put a cord on it to the brake lever or a remove before flight tag, my lock has a cord that goes to the Handle bar.

  • @Chris_Z.
    @Chris_Z. 3 роки тому +3

    Tip. Buy the reminder cord that attaches to the lock up to the hand grip. I have seen riders forget to remove and try to ride off with these on.

    G'day Mark I've got two of them. One is like the model you've shown in this video and the other has a plastic coated flexible wire cord that connects to the lever on the handlebars. Both are very loud and easy to use so I keep one in the top box on the zg1000. Great for piece of mind. Cool video keep them coming mate. CHEERS RICHARD 👍😎

    If your bike has drum brakes but spokes you lock it through where the spokes cross or just across a spoke. ... Not ideal but you can still use them.

    i don't think you will need a strap for the handle bar if it's armed cause as soon as you touch the bars it will sound the alarm .. which would make for a mad dash to turn it off haha

    Warning. A member of the Ulysses club had been using a disc lock for years. He came out of a club meeting talking to a mate and mentioned he had to remove his disc lock. Kept talking , then jumped on his bike and took off straight down with tremendous damage to his bike and injury to him.
    The insurance assessor told him he would have been far better off if his bike had been stolen, and that claims are made for this reason all the time. He still has not got his bike back and it has been months
    I know that device has an alarm but watching you try to set it left me with no confidence that the alarm is activated.
