- The USS Indianapolis was the ship that brought atomic bomb parts to Tinian Island so they could be assembled - and dropped - on Hiroshima.
Though the ship completed her mission, making Oppenheimer's work with the Manhattan Project come to life in the form of a nuclear bomb, the USS Indianapolis suffered a catastrophic - and fatal - blow when it crossed paths with a Japanese submarine.
This is the story of the ship. Almost 80 years later and hearing how Capt McVay was treated makes me so mad. I'm in the military and have seen how ridiculous it's bullshit can be but for all that to have happened to the Capt, before and after he died, is a despicable shame. Thanks for telling this story!

Every time 8 hear this story, one of the things I think about is, what would have happened if the USS Indianapolis would have been hit before they dropped off their cargo.
