I remember first hearing this song when my father took me to see Slava's Snowshow. They played it twice, at two very unusual, strange, and yet very heartfelt moments - first was at the very beginning of the show, where Slava the clown shuffles on stage and measures his own noose (it gets much lighthearted from there, I assure you), and near the end of the second act, where he plays with a mannequin wearing a coat, treating it like a lover he's parting ways with. Because of this I always associate this music with something sad but faraway, like a forgotten dream or memory. Sometimes it's hard to resist the tears when hearing it.

This song is very sad. But is wonderful. I can't listen to it very often because, depends on my mood, makes me cry remembering me all those who I love, bur they're gone. Grandpa, Grandma, Sister, I will miss you all... forever.

AdA is the best album of Vangelis IMHO. Simplicity and naked melody lines, hearbreaking, piercing to the core of feelings, very telling. There are times when I can't hear them in fear of their depressive influence. Other times they give me a hope, faith in a better world to come, real real world where every bit of live will be brought back and saved for ever.
Reminds me of when my now wife and I were courting in the seventies and we used to go regularly to the magnolia cafe in Blackpool pleasure beach. The tables overlooked the river caves and a similar tune to this played all the time. You would have to go there to appreciate it. i believe it is still much the same only now you have to pay to get in!

I love this so so much. This and Moonlight Sonata are two of my favourite pieces of music. I don't agree with the peaceful feeling of the song... to me it's about a longing for something... but accepting things won't change. That's probably influenced by Stranger Than Fiction (brilliant movie, and brilliantly incorporates this song into one of the final scenes)
I'm old enough to have had this album on vinyl and had actuall choreographed a piece to it over 30 years ago. I saw it in Strainger than fiction and was blown away-b the movie and with this music - perfect!

That stage show was the last place I expected to hear this tune. It was a nice surprise, but still strange hearing it in a clown show 😅
