As Indonesian and a proud owner of the Supernova, I'm both happy and proud that the Supernova won all categories of the best IEM in this channel. Shout out to Steven, the genius behind the Supernova!
Your country is very near to philippines but you dont sell it here sadge
I've only tried supernova for like 10-15 minutes and instantly in love with that set. Comparing to some 64's and other expensive sets, supernova probably my favorites out of the most. It got the tonal balance right, great mid, enough and good amount of technical capabilities.
Just hoping they still producing supernova for a few years, still saving for that bad boi
Nice to see you back in the studio. Great pick for YearPhone of 2023.
🤙
Love the Kiwi Ears Orchestra Lite, good fit, good tone, and really good isolation; excellent value for money
Welcome back to your studio Mark, great to see the nominations.
🙏
I wanted to thank you for a very helpful video. I've never owned iems before and have been on the hunt for some time, but have been overwhelmed by the size of the market. This narrowed the search tremendously!
2023 was a great year of IEMs for me too! Having went to canjam for the first time and spenting more then I've ever spent on the hobby... Over the year, I ending up buying around 8 sets of IEMs of various prices, with the supernova being one of them!
A worthy winner of your yearphone of the year, as it's one of the best sets I've personally heard at any price range and tied with the EAxEA Gaea for my favourite in my collection.
So glad the Moondrop LAN made the list! It’s been my daily for gaming & music listening. Correction: You gave it 5-stars! 🔥 (it deserves all the recognition you’ve given it!)
I love the LAN so much. Super underrated IEM with flawless tuning. I honestly enjoy listening to it more than my Kato; the LAN has a more satisfying bass presentation to my ear. I don't care if the Kato's technicalities are better, I'll trade tuning for tech any day.
I seriously don't think the Chopin suffered because of the Nova..
The Chopin suffered/is suffering because of the Simgot ea1000, kiwi ears quintet and the Dunu Falcon ultra.
Most people aren't really obsessed about the sound signature.. They're mostly about the price. And rightfully so
Also adding the Simgot EA500LM to the list now too...
it certainly doesn't help that the Nova is cheaper than the Chopin, if people are obsessed about the price.
@@haomingli6175 'Mostly' about the price.
The Nova is still an expensive iem.
It sounds really thin for its price.
Trade off for its tuning. I only say this because I've heard the Nova.
It sounds like you're old and tired of some meat in your lower mid frequencies lol.
In the name of perceived clarity and lack of muddiness, you can't take away 100% of the warmth!
How will the timbre be preserved??
How will baritone singers like Leonard Cohen sound??
I have visited multiple websites including the Indian ones (I'm from India). Not many people have bought the Nova. Not too much enthusiasm there.
The Nova sales are not affecting the Chopin. 5 or 10 maybe!
Not more.
I mentioned price because if you can spend that much on the Chopin, you can definitely spend a tad bit more for the Falcon Ultra and you instantly get an iem that has MUCH better build , a natural tonality and similar technicalities..
Great to see the live streams come back. Love it ❤
🙏
Was excited to see that you picked two of my favorite IEMs in your 5 nominees. I love the tubing of the Chopin, and its my go to for taking out of the house. I find i can't stop turning it up on songs I love!
However, the best IEM experience for me this year was selecting the design, waiting for, getting, listening to, and loving the Supernova. It is the IEM i listen to the most. Bass isn't world class, but balanced, realistic, detailed, and incredible timbre on all my favorite songs. Some songs i feel like I'm hearing for the first time again. You picked a winner for me.
am not surprised with the addition of the Moondrop LAN , ever since I got it I rate it as one of my favorite
Hey, may I ask if you have any nitpicks on Lan's treble by any chance?
Selamat om Stephen 7A acoustic, ayo Asteria nya dikirim ke Super review 😅
Happy New Year!
Saw the alert but couldn't tune in live cos I had to leave for the weekly grocery shop.
Thanks for your work!
Happy new year, Kelvin 🤙
Wonderful Thank you Mark❗️❤️ Happy New Year🥂🎇
🤙
I haven’t heard much about the Chopin yet, I’m going to look into it now. That or the orchestra lite for me next I think ❤
Orchestra Lite is my IEM of 2023, runner up would be EA500. ARTTI R1 would make 3rd place, it's very good. Interesting nomination of the LAN, I always liked the original Chu, I never thought it's tuning needed to be fixed, so I will give the LAN a try eventually.
I think judging by the accessories of Binary Acoustics, and Gizaudio's close relationship with crinacle, it is possible that Binary Acoustics is related to Softears/Moondrop. I bought both the Chopin and the Softears Studio 4; the accessories and packaging are strikingly similar. Same eartips, same-style hard plastic carrying cases (think Pelican cases), the earphones themselves are both individually held in identical small brown velvet pouches.
Hmmmmmmmm
Is the Truthear Hexa still relevant today or are there better options nowadays?
Probably the best hybrid or just general IEM at $79 if you're into neutral tuning. You can do a lot better if you want warmer or v shaped signature like ea500lm.
Damn! The last one certainly surprised me! And I have to say, it was my first IEM i've ever had, and certainly was the reason I've got in love with the form factor 😅
For me so far, I've loved the Yanyin Canon II. I also have the Kiwi's, but the extra comfort from a vented shell and the extra technicalities the Canon has gives such a nice edge...
Thanks this great ear in reviews, certainly your channel helped me finding a lot of great finds 😊
True story, I've been listening to (and enjoying) the Canon II the last few days, it's good.
Hi Mark, have not seen a bad review of the Supernova if i get the last good job before i retire, i will get it if anothe iem does not replace it for the money!!
Great Comparison
Just Suprise that Lan is part of this.
amazing supernova from bandung indonesia
What do you know, for once I own a few of these nominees. The LAN is still my recommendation for an IEM under $50, technically competent for the price, balanced frequency response, but it is lacking in dynamics, won't do "punch" to save its life. The Chopin has the nicest tuning I've ever heard but I'm not sure about its technical chops, don't think that it is any better than, say, the Hexa in that aspect. The Orchestra Lite is this year's love/hate story, I'm having problems with the insertion depth (fit is fine), at any position other than very superficial it becomes shouty to my ears. Nobody anywhere ever has reported such a thing so it's probably a me problem. Also, I'm not sold on that "tame" treble tuning, I'd like a little more air up there. So yeah, cheers. Back at dreaming about the Supernova and all that expensive stuff.
16:25 and that tells me ppl as usual just vote without hearing. i know not everyone who listened to the supernova thinks it's the best of the year so it's not that everyone who listened voted for it. that means a whole bunch of ppl who never listened to it voted (especially because it's so hard to get too). pretty sure ppl always do this for these polls for every brand and iem (including the community polls HBB did too).
Seems like many people refer to tests (forum, videos etc..) and vote without even having had the product in their hands. They have an opinion, but in reality it's not theirs.
Supernova are certainly very good (i didn't hear them) , but it's just like voting for a movie for an Award show without having seen it...
I'm not saying you should only vote for what you've got, but I think it's a shame because it's interesting to have a more "popular" choice (...that more people can afford)
Exactly my thoughts, and Mark not even questioning what it means...
I bought it, I love it, and I voted for it on both HBB and this channel. It sounds more time in my ears than any other. Chopin is 2nd.
I wouldn't assume the people voting for Supernova didn't hear it. They all wrote in answers for "Why is it your favorite?" that describe their experiences.
I think more likely is that the survey was shared among a small community of enthusiasts with similar preferences. A couple of IEMs got small bursts of votes (from different email addresses, and different writing styles) on certain days, which is consistent with the the community effort hypothesis.
@@SuperReview this make sense and is the only possible scenario: "small community of enthusiasts with similar preferences".
however, do note that there are audiophiles who never heard something and write as though they've heard it.
remember you said you were surprised the voters heard the supernova yourself? this means you did not knowingly select a community who heard the supernova. this means it was completely random chance that this small community heard the supernova, which is actually low probability (and also why you did not expect it as well).
Given the low probability of this occurrence, if the community was not handpicked supernova owners, we wonder how the least likely outcome occurred (the sample size is dominated by those who have heard the supernova)
HBB's poll kinda made a bit more sense where Monarch Mk3 got huge votes because that one was hyped + easy to get. So Mk3 likely got lots of fake+real votes. but supernova is much rarer than monarch mk3, so i presume the ratio of fake/real should be more lopsided than mk3.
also strange here is that monarch mk3 is nowhere to be found here and supernova which you didnt even expect dominated.
the other explanation is that certain "fans" of IEMs/brands are subscribed more to certain channels, thus causing results to differ. Like pop/kpop fandoms, those fans vote for who/what they stan regardless of objectivity.
it's very strange how the (very rare) supernova listeners can overwhelm other $1k and below IEMs (statistically unlikely), so the sample size must be VERY small to achieve that, or they were fandom voting.
i was wondering where these usual top contenders went:
mids/tonality: Unique Melody Multiverse Mentor/Amber Pearl, Canpur CP622B, Noble Ronin
treble: Elysian Annihilator 2023, Kinera Loki
bass: FatFreq Maestro SE/Grand Maestro, Xanadu Khopesh, FiR Rn6/Xe6
V-shape: Aroma Fei Wan
flavored: CA Trifecta
technical: Canpur CP622B, Subtonic Storm
soundstage: Unique Melody Multiverse Mentor, Canpur CP622B
Most of those I haven't heard.
Annihilator 2023 is very good, but a bit bassy for me. Fatfreq stuff is fun but too artificial for my tastes. Trifecta is... sorry, awful. And I only spent about 10 minutes with Storm, which is very impressive, but not enough time to listening to make a nomination.
@@SuperReview i pass on fatfreq too. Annihilator is strictly for treble given no one else does it. We have loki now tho
Nice to have you back!
🙏
Supernova
U4
Orchestra lite
Chopin
Moondrop iem 40uds
Hey, any suggestion for a wireless earbud under $100-150 ? Id like something on the balanced brighter aide of things.. ik i could always eq but rather have a balanced uncolored monitor to begin with. Thank you!
I thought blessing 3 would be your favourite or definitely in your top 5. So now you prefer orchestra lite over the B3 ?
I did find myself reaching for the Orchestra Lite throughout the year more than the Blessing 3.
i know instantly who going to win just by lookin at that wall 😂
What's the best iem for music and gaming as an upgrade for the hexa for around 200 dollars (I'd like something similar to the blessing 3, specially tech and res wise)
Nice congrats on the new studio
Are you really going to make me want to buy a Moondrop Lan now... It went under my radar so hard, I mean I have the Chu 2 and the Truthear Red. I kinda want to see what it's all about now.
Joke's on you, I am watching this after the stream and I used my time traveling powers to skip to the end.
Crap.
Don't worry, I still went back and watched the whole video. I felt scummy and couldn't leave it like that.
LOL
Supernova eats almost everything under $1000 for breakfeat
S8 and IE 600 still pretty excellent in their own right. Supernova just really balanced.
AGREED. 64 Audio U4S man.....God Tier tonality for me.
Have u heard subtonic storm?
monarch mkiii
how different treble on fx15 vs dm9? not spicy not fatique on one or second?
12:46 let's gooooo, Love that IEM
Hello,
Does the 7th Acoustics Supernova have that "BA timbre"? I mean, you can hear it or not?
Thanks
ua-cam.com/video/cPwoHIvgBHA/v-deo.html
Anyone find the fit of Blessing 3 frustrating? Or the prongs?
What about sennheiser ie600 in comparison to super nova ?
Supernova tuning more balanced midrange, better timbre, IE 600 more physical, better bass.
Good Question
but he'd say Vee vs Natural. 😅
I just wonder which one he'd pick if have to choose one only.
@jymylin2605 which one would you prefer ?
@@sant585
I don't won supernova so I can't give u apple to apple comparison and it may not be a straight answer for you.
But I can tell you I'll choose IE600 even I've Supernova.
For me, the fit is important. it disappear in my ear and no need to adjust second time whenever I wear. And it's amazing technology that a single 7mm driver can achieve. I do enjoy whatever music I've listened to. I listen almost all kinds of genres.
But TBH, all accessories came with are useless for me except carry case. 😂
Kinda surprised that Blessing3 didn't make the list. 5-star-iem that wasn't in your top 5 this year 🤔
Have you tried the cca polaris ? Its frequency response is somewhere in the middle of the blessing 2 and the truthear hexa
Nope.
Welcome back
🙇
For a more vocal focus do you prefer Lan or Aria 2?
LAN
How do you find the gizaudio galelio now? Is it better than moondrop lan?
Female Vocal focus iem.
I prefer LAN.
Saludos desde Venezuela y me gustaría comprar un in ears con la firma de sonido en V qué sean muy divertido y que sean excelente para jugar y de muy amplio soundstage me recomendaron los 7hz i99 y cual me recomiendas tu? y muchas gracias
No he escuchado los i99. Mira como mucho bass, mas que me gusta. hbb.squig.link/?share=7Hz_i77
how can one put Chopin before ea1000
I have heard both.
jippie jeaah - not a phone - it is the E AgRee
What cable are you using for your 64 audio U4S?
Truthear Hola cable.
Great video! Thanks 😊
Question : what's your take on EQ?
Would it make sense to buy the most technical and comfortable IEM we can afford and then EQ it to our preferred taste?
Thanks
I have no problems with EQ apart from practicalities. I use too many different headphones and source for EQ to be a viable option for me. If you use just one headphone on one source, EQ would make more sense.
why the moondrop Lan but not the Chu2 🤔?
Chu 2 is kinda generic vee tuning, a dime a dozen nowadays. The LAN is more balanced for my tastes.
Chopin's looks just kill it for me, in a bad way. What a shame, since I've heard so much praise for it from people I trust, including you.
2023 yearphone vs 2024 yearphone?
Wow it's a bit surprising juzear 41t is not in your list 🙈
It was close.
@@SuperReview Yep, that's okay bro.
I have tried orchestra lite, but I prefer 41t than that one. Orchestra lite is a good iem though, but its bass is one of its drawback that I dislike 🙈
You can only listen to one IEM at a time. What happens to all the unloved IEMs? Do you give them away as presents complete with ear wax? Do you sell them. At some point the second-hand market will become saturated.
Keep them around for future comparisons.
Also , below 50$ , the Simgot EW200 is the clear winner..
Laugh in 7hz sonus
@@heyking8583 You can laugh in with whatever you like dude.
Ultimately its our own ears that decide.
You could even claim the KZ Krila is the GOAT..
I don't give a damn.
The EW200 is head and shoulders above everything else in the sub 50$ market to me and that's the bottom-line..
@@rajeebdas1724 bet u never Heard sonus
@@rajeebdas1724 He did what you just did, no need to over react and double down... Your opinion isn't any more valid then his.
Hexa is not there 😅😅😅😅
Previous year.
@@SuperReviewis it still relevant enough to hypothetically put it in this list had it released in 2023?
@@crouchingcape6930Didn't have to come out in 2023, but 2023 has to be the first year it was eligible (e.g. first year I heard it). I already nominated Hexa in 2022. ua-cam.com/video/CpAnocfuvAc/v-deo.html
You are very biased and probably paid for content.
LOL, wait for tomorrow's video.
Have you tried simgot ea 1000..would like to know about your verdict
Yeah, have one in for review. It's solid. The hype is a little confusing.
Thats amazing...eagerly waiting for your review..would like to know its shortcomings and how to eq em out if its possible..huge fan btw..cheers😊

2022 to 2024 still using Sony IER Z1R i am overdue for an upgrade
The Supernova, being an all BA set, does it also suffer from the same ear suction effect as S8? I have learned to adapt to this effect and tip rolling helped, but in the future I will avoid unvented IEMs. And by the way, I own both the OG Blessing 2 (my favourite IEM) and S8. For some reason Blessing 2’s bass is more prominent, rumbly and bouncy than that of the S8. Based on the FR, I would have expected more prominence from the S8. I am curious if the Supernova is closer to the Blessing 2 or to the S8, as Mark said it’s the best of both worlds
Disclaimer: I'm personally not very sensitive to unvented suction effect. Supernova does have more venting than S8, but I have heard from some that it's still not as comfortable as a fully-vented design.
Surprised there’s no Blessing 3 on that list 😮
