Ken Brownfield May the souls of all those brave men who died in Vietnam Rest In Peace. But Vietnam, unlike WW2 which was indeed a battle against some of the most evil powers in history, was a pointless war that many didn’t believe in. I wouldn’t have wanted my life wasted in that war so it’s hard for me to blame him for trying to get out of it. WW2 was a cause that any real man could get behind but the motives behind Vietnam were very unclear and why should someone have to fight if they don’t know what they’re fighting for or believe in the cause? I think the draft should only be allowed when there is realistic possibility that whatever threat is being fought could end up affecting/invading our homeland if we do not eliminate it (which is why I support the draft in the case of WW2).

My husband was a CPO. He was in the Navy for 24 yrs. He is in heaven 💗😥 Oh how I miss him. Bruce was the last member of my family and now I am all alone. He will never have to suffer again. I miss you sweetheart 😢😪💗 I love and pray for our Veterans. I met so many at the Veteran Hospital and praying for them always 🙏 To much pain and suffering 😢🙏

I look back and feel happy that it even happened, that we honor the soldiers, that we remember this day, and learning about it made me so happy because I felt something with it. I felt for the soldiers, but in a way where I know they will Rest In Peace with God. Therefore, the correct for for me is nostalgia, maybe you would use something else. So many families lost Everyone, especially their sons, and most never found or returned home as bombs don't leave a lot identify. I have spoken to some of these men who had lied about their ages to go and fight for their families and the families being slaughtered in Europe, some were as young as 14-15 years old fighting and yes they were fighting for Your freedom.
Why do you think these men couldn't talk about what happened to them when most of them were fighting side by side with their older or younger brother ??

What a wonderful speech. So true & heartfelt. He pointed out how different that generation was compared to today's. Sadly we will never see a fully inspirational generation as we did then sadly because the enemy uses our freedoms to destroy freedom.
My Canadian uncle served & I was so proud of him, though what he saw there caused alcoholism until he was in his 60s. He finally faced it & got sober. But he was a good man. He never talked of it. He married an English bride, brought her here, but when their baby died, she went home and left him alone. She didn't want him to follow her, she didn't want the memories. He remarried and raised another woman's children never having any of his own.
I always liked him, but there was always this part of him. After I read about D-day, & what everybody went through, I realized why he drank the way he did. I was so glad he was sober, when he passed away. We all were so happy he was at peace for over 10 years before cancer took him. Thank you all who served.
Next time you see a veteran such as these men give them a hug and salute and give them the time of day so they won’t feel forgotten.
I love and admire every man and woman who served in world war II they were incredible people. We alive today should always work hard to show that we appreciate everything they had to go through so we didn't have to. Thanks again.

I have been there twice...this speech is a touching tribute to our own soldiers...TRUE AMERICANS .
I have a cousin, William Trammell, buried there. He was a red-headed Alabama boy... a paratrooper shot by Nazis , as he descended from the sky that day 75 years ago ...he died 3 DAYS later.
My father was member of the US COAST GUARD and the operator of a Higgins landing craft and put many soldiers on the beach that day.... many, he said died right away as the Nazis had mined the beaches and our boys were stuck right in the middle of them. My dad died in Dec. 1977.
My mother was a COAST GUARD communications officer in NYC and she remembered carrying many messages to military officers on duty that day in 1944, in that city. My mother died in April, 2013.

Agreed. Every citizen American / allies should visit these D-Day grounds once in their lifetime. I had the chance to this January and I was witness to how moving of a place it really is. France has done a great job preserving the memorials up and down the countryside
Scott Burk, I was stationed in Germany 85-87, I walk through these gardens of Stone and could never explain the feelings I had. To walk on these ground 40 years after this historic event.... And I do agree with you that people should walk among these granite markers. And yes the French have done an outstanding job. And it is true what President Trump said every one of the graves have been literally adopted by a French national and each feels it their duty and honor to care for each of resting place.
