This song is deep. Barks interview on Forbidden Tale: KANAMI: Yes. Actually, SAIKI had been telling me for a while that she wanted a song with a lot of development. And when I was making this song, I happened to have experienced the death of someone close to me, so I was thinking about things like "What is life?" and "What does it mean to live?" So I thought I'd like to try to express things like "What is a person's life?" and "Life has ups and downs" through music. Even though there are ups and downs and many changes, there should be a core that never changes, so I expressed that in the riff... I'm kind of embarrassed to say this myself SAIKI: Don't be embarrassed! (laughs) Miku Kobato: That's cool! Barks: So in other words, the riff is like a fixed point, and it feels like it's watching over the changes in life, right? KANAMI: That's right! SAIKI: This is a song that I thought was very wonderful from the first time I heard it. I got a lot of images when I listened to it. This is exactly the kind of song I wanted. Barks: The lyrics of this song were written by SAIKI. It's a little different from "life has ups and downs," but it seems to express a view of life. What did you want to express here? Saiki: Every day, I realize how wonderful music is, and while I was researching the history of music, I learned that there were songs that were forbidden to sing long ago, and stories that were forbidden to tell. But now, with modern technology, we have the chance to restore them and listen to them, and the reality is that we can now read stories that were once forbidden. That made me realize that art is something that never disappears, and I thought that this in itself is very romantic and beautiful. When I thought about what would happen if I expressed life in music, while asking the question "What is life?" that KANAMI asked, I thought that "living" means "we are here now." I wrote this song with the hope that even if our bodies were to disappear, someone might someday pass on this music. I was thinking that it would be nice if our music would remain in the future. I thought it would be wonderful if people in the future who would never know BAND-MAID would find out about us through this song, and if our music could give someone a push. I've experienced something like that myself. There are many musicians who were no longer in this world when I started to like music, right? But their music gave me courage, taught me the greatness of music, and gave me a push, so I wrote these lyrics hoping that I could do that someday. Akane: When I listened to this song, I got a bright future and a positive and beautiful impression, so I didn't want to ruin it by filling it with clutter in terms of the performance. I wanted to make a song that would stick in people's ears and resonate with their hearts, so the drums are unusual for BAND-MAID songs, with the same rhythm repeated. Even though there were changes for each section, there were parts where the drums were focused on highlighting the melody, so that it would fit in the ears. I just had a strong desire to deliver the melody. MISA: I felt that this song had a story and the development was interesting, so I played it while being conscious of making the different characters in each section while keeping it simple. I tried changing the touch of my picking and things like that.
Anytime they talk about their music, videos, cover art or whatever they create, I always get impressed of how much though that goes into it every little detail.
Indoor shots of the MV were filmed at The Royal Chester in Ota, Gunma Prefecture. It's a wedding venue. Outdoor shots were filmed at the nearby Ota Kokubu Sports Park. Both lovely locations indeed. Fun fact. The MV of "Don't You Tell Me" was also filmed at The Royal Chester - but the one in Maebashi just a few miles West of the one in Ota. It's also a wedding venue. If you hire the Royal Chester for your wedding, make sure you go to the right one lol!
The songs already released earlier in the year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production. And as for Miku and Saiki, the sky's the limit for what they'll want to do in merch, fashion and art, etc.. Thx, Glenn & Adrian!
The album is well...EPIC!😂 You've already heard "Protect You", "Bestie", "Magie" and "Show Them". Some others which were already released you haven't done yet, "Shambles" and "Memorable". "Brightest Star" (Miku lead vocal song) although there isn't a MV out yet, it has been on different live streams. "Forbidden Tale", "The One" and "Toi et Moi" are the others that stick out a bit above the rest. But, "Letters to You", "Go Easy", "TAMAYA!" and "Get to the Top" (instrumental) are all great songs too. I hope "The One" is the next MV to be released. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘
I believe Band-Maid and Cluppo have rented that building before. I think they used it for the "Don't You Tell Me", official music video and Miku (Cluppo) definitely used the hallway that Saiki is in for one of her videos. My three favorite songs from the album (no videos yet) are Tamaya, Letters To You, and The One. Both "Tamaya" and "Letters To You" are fun uplifting Band-Maid style rock songs. "The One" while being beautiful and having an uplifting sound, is a lament. Kanami wrote the song as a tribute to her grandmother who passed away before the band's 10th anniversary tour finale. She was close to her grandmother. Her bandmates understood her loss and grief. Miku wrote the lyrics to the song that could be interpreted in several ways but also reflected Kanami's feeling with lines like "I'll never forget you" and I'll be seeing you". Saiki's heartfelt vocals of the song always brings tears to my eyes because it's a song that connects to so many people who have experienced the loss of a lived one.
My favorite is "toi et moi" and "the one" from this album. Not sure either will get a video, but "the one" will definitely be the closing song for concerts and replace endless story
Not to drop a different group onto this thread, but have you guys tried "Hagane" yet? They have an recent official live release to "HeroTime" and this is where JUNNA the drummer has landed...
Great reaction and this song is my favorite off the new album, but "The One" is also a great song (no video). So far I love this album, multiple listens has just confirmed that this album is in the top rank (for me "Unseen World" is still the best). Thanks for continuing to react to Bnad-Maid.
Nice Reaction Guys! Glen, I just saw a video that is right up your alley involving The Warning. It is in 2017 or 2018 at The Mother of all Festivals and from what I can gather, The Warning is introducing the lineup of the Festival, but they play about a half a song of each artist. Tesla, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith and Def Leopard. I can't believe that I have never seen this video before!
