In Song: Jamie Barton

Classical music was her teenage rebellion, an escape that crackled across the radio waves at night, flooding her with dreams of a life far from rural Georgia.
But now, after a career singing on the world's great stages, acclaimed mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton is ready to get back to the music that inspired her in the first place. Go on a journey to the rolling green hills of Appalachia with "In Song: Jamie Barton," an exploration of Barton’s musical roots, from bluegrass to the church harmonies passed from father to daughter.
Joining her is 15-time Grammy winner Béla Fleck, who collaborates with Barton on performances of Henry Purcell's "Music for a While" and the traditional folk ballad "Bury Me Beneath the Willow Tree."

Congratulations, Jamie, on your career. I grew up in Garden Lakes in Rome. Camped, trout fished, played in the creeks my whole life. Back then it wasn't crowded like it can be now. I live in Floyd County but close to Adairsville now. I love music. All kinds. My favorite in this is Bury Me Under the Weeping Willow. Gave me chills! Good luck in all your future endeavors!

I've known Jamie since she was a kid. As a high school student, she sounded like a top college music student. As an undergraduate she sounded like a seasoned professional. The best thing, even as an international star and winner of top competitions, she's still so down to earth.
