I've really enjoyed watching Sienna's progress. Please drop the volume of the music a bit as we have our volume turned up to hear y'all talking, then the music comes in and blasts our speakers. Can't wait to see Sienna do her solo flight!!! She's getting really really close from what I can tell. The longer format is fine, too!!!
Totally agree. Awesome video but music volume way too high compared to dialogue volume. Personally I could do without the music altogether as it becomes quite obnoxious.
Thanks! Super stoked to see her follow this dream! I’m 52 and just now following the same dream! So awesome to see the progress! Well done Sienna! I hope this little bit helps!
I'm a student pilot as well and I find this format of longer videos extremely helpful, I can really see what the plane is doing and what kind of corrections are needed to fix it, as always great flying from Siena and great video!!!
I have watched your channel for 2 plus years and think you do a wonderful job instructing, and I'm amazed at how cool, claim and collected Sienna seems to be in the pilot seat. I'm happy to help her to her goal of becoming a commercial pilot, (awesome job). @@angleofattack
I don't normally watch CFI videos, but have seen several now in my studies of aviation. I forget how I got here (probably from Browne's channel) but am glad I did. You sir are a fine CFI. I've grown weary of seeing those who are less-and sometimes tragically less, than you are. Thank you for being you-and sharing your life with us. I hope all your students are as capable as this gal. She's great.
Fine instructing Chris...good that Sienna is getting real world cross wind experience, not always the case at certain airports. She is doing really well...throttle on !
Terrific videos! One extremely minor suggestion: the intro was 5:11 long on this one; 30 seconds would have been plenty, but maybe that's just me. Anyway, I strongly enjoy the whole series. Please keep them coming!
I love watching Sienna’s progress - she’s an inspiration to those who are unsure of learning to fly. I also love Chris’ teaching style - it’s a great example for other instructors. Let’s get her to her commercial rating - I’m kicking in $10.
Thanks Longer format is better imho. Another question: Would it be possible to make POV video during those landings? Perhaps you can have POV camera while student is landing so we see how is student pilot acting and how the plane responds. Thanks for the great content and support of students
I'll take your idea into account for a standalone video. Thanks so much for the support! *Her First Solo!* ---> ua-cam.com/video/Zhmqyx_fujE/v-deo.html
I try hard not to fly on days that I have to deal with crosswind. But after watching this, I’m actually gonna go look for the opportunity to do that. This is very informative. And this girl did great, I think a lot of her success is due to the fact that you give her praise when she does things right. It gives a student a lot of confidence. This video gave me more confidence.thumbs up!
Now that was some busy flying. I think Sienna did a fantastic job and the landings in the that wind were great. Sienna really soaking up all the information from you. As my first grade teacher would say " little Johnny is a great listener"
What a great series 🤩 I sure wish this was all available a couple of decades ago when I was younger. My Dad was in the Canadian Airforce and I spent many hours hiding in the trees at the end of the runways watching the Harvard and Chipmunk trainers clawing their way to altitude and doing maneuvers. If a CF104, Saber or Voodoo jet came or went above me it made my whole day. Sometimes I could even catch the pilots eyes and they would wave back at me as I frantically tried to catch their attention. That would set me on a high for the whole day making that eye contact for a few seconds. It put me in the pilot's seat in my mind just long enough to fall in love with the whole concept of flight and what it must feel like. Now at 73 years of age spending much of my life on the water, I still dream of that feeling of controlling flight. I've flown in small aircraft and airliners as a passenger and am still awed that we can make flight possible! I'm too old to go for my pilot license now but log many hours on my MSFlight Sim. I've watched your students and you do these journeys together and loved watching them so much that I now fly my little 172 or my Savage Cub in and out of Homer regularly for practice. I live on Vancouver Island but Homer is my new Home Port....Keep up the great work 😁 "Altitude is Insurance"
I really have enjoyed watching Siennna progress and can reflect when I was young and flying. I had no fear then. God has directed me I other paths now but still fly occasionally. I was always fond of the C-172.
Howdy yall! I'm working on my private pilots license right now out of addison TX! Addison is right next to DFW and it can get a little busy/stressful, but I still love it. It's been awesome seeing someone else go through the same process towards their private pilot! Not to mention how calm, collected, and coherent you are as an instructor! God bless yall and good luck Sienna (probably butchered the spelling lol)
Sienna is progressing very well and cross wind landings are quite complex and something that takes practice. She handles the cross winds quite well considering a limited exposure to it, well done. Chris, could have done with your style of instruction.
Thanks again for your videos. I enjoyed the format. I fly remote control planes and love flying. The videos help me fly and if I get a chance to fly for real I hope to remember things you have been showing. Well done Sienna and keep the flying going. It was a tough day and you made it look easy. I’m looking forward to the next in the series. As always fly safe.
I really enjoy this channel and specially the flight lessons with Sienna. Thx to you both for the videos and because of you I’m officially at 4.1 hours as a student pilot here in Fl.
Well done Sienna! One thing that might help with getting used to the feeling of the cross-controls during the crosswind landing flare, is practicing some forward slips.
Nice job keeping it relaxed and professional. A long session like that can be exhausting for a student but Sienna handled it like a champ. I really enjoy circuit and crosswind training. It's such a mixed bag. As Sienna said, rudder is for turn coordination but in a crosswind landing, it's for centerline coordination...which means flight uncoordination. It can be confusing. Part of what locked it into my head is reiterating what the controls actually do: pitch, bank and yaw. Elevator makes the nose go up and down. Aileron banks the aircraft and rudder points the nose. In a turn, rudder points the nose to coordinate the turn. During landing, rudder points the nose down the runway. Rudder is still doing it's 'pointing the nose' thing, but for a different purpose. I don't know if that makes any sense, but it helped me.
I saw her video from a year ago, I hope she gets that ticket! That looks like a magical place to learn to fly. I learned down here in the flat midwest. Some day I wanna fly in Alaska! It's just a dream for now!
Chris, I’ve enjoyed your videos and always look forward to the next one. Sienna is doing great! I just wish I were in Alaska… I believe I would enjoy taking instruction from you. Blue skies and as you say “throttle on!”
Go Sienna! So happy for her! I started watching her journey when she first started and it’s been inspiring to follow along as I slowly work toward my PPL too. She’s so fortunate to have you, Chris! Thanks for the content! 🛬
@@angleofattack you certainly provide a huge service and value for your viewers as well, just as you said! Greetings from Bellingham, WA based at KBLI 🤠
Great work! I imagine for a CFI this is a rewarding phase too. I also did better in training in gusty chaotic conditions - I think because I had a tendency to overcontrol in calm winds at that stage.
The cockpit view on landing are really helpful for me judging my flare in my living room, especially judging the crosswind correction (until I get in the air myself). I am virtually using ailerons and rudder in my desk seat to correct. While the outside views are good, I think incorporating those cockpit views on landing are really helpful. (Just received my private and using these videos to stay proficient)....just to clarify, the cockpit view looking at the runway,
Great job, this is very good info for new pilots to pick up pointers on these cross winds, also, if you could the music parts of the video are quite loud, is there a way to lower the music volume, when your piecing the clips together? Thank you, 😁👍
Maybe a useless comment, but isn't that what UA-cam comments are for? Anyway, I've really been enjoying your videos especially all that beautiful scenery and the updates on Sienna learning to fly. That's my long-term goal. Can't really justify it for any reason except the challenge and the pure fun of it. My mom was a damn good pilot and she took me on some wonderful flights when I was a kid. She had a good friend who's flying club owned a Stearman. She loved acrobatics and she'd take me up in that thing. I was absolutely thrilled, especially the loops and flying upside down. Oh yeah... I have a question. I was wondering how much does it cost to paint a 172? I'm used to seeing your gnarled-up engine cowling and it's fine by me, but I was wondering if you were ever planning to spiff up the outside to go along with all your cool new Garmin instruments? Or maybe a bit of wear and tear is a status symbol up there in Homer? Anyway enjoying your videos, not just the scenery, but I really loved the seaplane lessons. Never knew about step turns. It seemed to me like you were going terrifyingly fast on those turns. 😁 And I was especially interested in the electronics upgrade since I've been keeping up with Garmin and glass cockpits forever. In real life I repair shipboard electronics, especially radar. Anyway, keep making them, I'll keep watching them.
Hey Chris, great video!... Just wanted to note that your cockpit audio recording device often picks up a very high pitch rhythmic squeal. I'm not sure which piece of electronics is causing the interference but could you run your audio through a low pass filter (high cut) so those very high hz sounds don't annoy young (and dog) ears? Edit: It seems like I hear that three-pulse squeak/squeal pitch more often when 23U is at idle or low power settings.
my airport always has small crosswinds...(the runway is like 800m away from the beach. so it's sea air). My approaches are kinda bad but way better, but on my landings I plonk the plane down lol. It always feels like I'm doing absolutely nothing and I just kind of fly it till we're on the ground. But my instructors say its fine I just gotta pull back a little more and float a little bit more aka not touch down so soon lol. But my instructor trusts me to take his plane up and bring it back in one piece, so I feel like I'll go solo by March/April eeeeee. I started flying in March 2023 so would be a year, I just need to study for exams and all the other elements lol
I tried several times to donate for Siennas lessons but super thanks won't let me. I press verify but nothing happens and I have to reload page. Very frustrating. Never had problem with super thanks before.
A totally random comment, but I noticed ForeFlight is showing the track of the flight as the flight is in progress. Somehow I’ve managed to turn that off in my settings and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn it back on. I press REC before I taxi, but I never see the track log while the flight is in progress-only after I stop recording and view the track log. Does anyone know the setting for showing the track during the flight? Is that only possible if you have a Sentry or Stratus?
This guy is the best instructor I've ever seen excellent job

Yes, total agreement the volume differential is overdone. The music is overbearing compared to the in-flight audio.
