I think the runes by themselves are not magical in nature, and some heathens may say this is "blasphemy!" lol, but if they think so.. I'm afraid they did a poor choice of spiritual path :p But the runes are just like any other type of symbol, image, icon or letter; it's not these things that are magical in nature (in my opinion, of course) but it's the human component that is essential in any expression of magic. It's the human inner capacities and the power of its own consciousness that can express magic by the use of any tool. It's like the blacksmith's hammer, by itself is just an object, just a tool, but with the human element it can create all sorts of useful and beautiful items. Do you think there are things we can use to help fill in the blanks when practicing the old faiths of our people? One more, haha do you know of and your opinion on Robert Sepehrs works?
Thanks, Arith. Clarified some points for me. As you said in video about tattoos Slavic people had tattoos on their bodies (according to the book written by Ibn Fadlan). Did they have runic tattoos? Any information on that? Or those were just pictures or anything else. If there's such information. Or it's also not that common, because as a Russian I remember those Slavic people depicted in books or cartoons from my childhood and they didn't have tattoos. So, I'm saying that Ibn Fadlan is the only source about Slavs having tattoos. Just a brief answer if you have any info. Thanks for the videos anyway

But, for clearing up, in no uncertain terms, the difference between 20th century ideology! i.e. detrimental harm done by the Nazi party! Everything Germanic/Nordic and even Gaileic, now is connected to 1940's Germany. It's so frustrating to be confused with a political party while just respectfully honoring your own ancestory... Especially when said party has Nothing if only a little to do with said party
Fantastic video and very important. By all means let your love of the past inspire you in your use of the runes but don't feel the need to conflate history which is fixed with spirituality which is personal and fluid. They are both valid but nonetheless distinct
I agree with and respect your approach to the runes. I also use them for divination and realize there is no real historical context for this practice. I would be very interested in any further discussion with you about modern runic divination as I have practiced this for many years, and have added some character of my own similar to the lineage of Icelandic midlevel magical practices, however, they are not directly descendent thereof. I have always had a deep interest in the ultimate origin of runic symbols, including non- germanic usages. I am wondering if I might inquire of your opinion of any connection or relationship between Germanic usage and proto-Turkish lettering systems because there is much graphic similarity between the two sets of symbols. My education is clearly lesser than your own in these respects. It seems that peoples of the Asian steppes migrated through Turkish regions to help populate the Northern European areas including Scandinavia. Thank you for your work to preserve what truth we actually have about runic tradition.
I have a feeling this question has been answered by the part of the video that points out the origin of the elder futhark and that we may not even have all the runes that existed, but: where does the part about the three aetts come from?
I think the reason why I can actually connect to reading tarot is because it's new. It's based on how I see the world (the way I read ofc) and not how people in the past did. For me it's not a plus or a minus if something has a tradition, in a sense that it won't get better just because other people used to do it. That's one of the reasons I'm not sure I'll use runes, it seems to connect to a culture (even if just in theory) that's too different from me. Assumptions, I know XD but I enjoy using tarot to help myself and hopefully others because it males sense to me. That's all. :)
I find it funny but at same time sad that you keep having to justify and explain what is meant for what... people in this day and age can't think for themselves :( Thank you for all your great videos and effort to put them out!
And it's especially sad when I do philosophical videos and I have to explain and warn people that I'm not trying to indoctrinate them but actually just sharing a philosophical perspective. People are naturally mistrustful, but that mistrust was highly augmented in this new Era of ours, with so much fake news and with technology being able to even create false images and completely distort the truth in new and more convincing ways, to the point that people even question the reality of events happening right in front of them. It's not entirely people's fault. But to a certain extent it is, when people prefer to rely on information that pops up on memes on Facebook, rather than reading books.
@@ArithHärger Speaking of these books, do you have a video/are planning to do a video of books you find are a good source of information regarding runes/mythology/history. In regards to having to explain, people tend to dismiss evidence simply because it does not fit with what they believe to be true. Keep up the good work.
I would so love you to cover the concept of what is termed Wyrd.. or Urd or urðr forgive me if that is totally wrong making the effort..no swedish or norse known by me. Would love to hear your take on the subject matter etc. for me whom studied physics at one time it completely encompasses probability and quantum much much better in a way discernable to people .. ...anyway would love to see a video on it from yourself .. from either an Archaeology / Anthropology view or otherwise.
On rune yoga, is it possible to teach an unknowing person some version of rune yoga, false yoga to the person practicing it, as a means to rob them of some vital internal essence or such?
This made me think of an ancient Roman bathrooms graffiti. It read "here I had a good sh*t" but, when read in latin, it sounded like a harry potter spell.
Great information, as usual. I've never understood reconstructionists. Do they just stop their practice when they get to parts of veneration or worship that have no information? I'm a neo-pagan. I'm fully aware most of what I do is not historically accurate. I'm just curious.
For the record, the use of tarot as anything more than a card game (of which we also know very little) only dates back a couple hundred years, not as far back as most tarot users (of which I am, as well as runes) like to make believe either. The idea that it is "ancient" comes mostly from the Golden Dawn (late 19th century), popularized by "Gypsy Fortune tellers/tarot readers"- also mostly gothic/romance author's invention.
Ok video is esoteric so let's talk magick 😎 While the old Norse might not have actually used the runes for magick or divination in the way that people try to use them now, it doesn't mean you can't use them. Magick is all about our intent shaping the world around us. I could take the letter B and say that that letter symbolizes books and is therefore useful in spells to enhance knowledge or learning. As long as I believe it I can essentially use the letter B as a sigil in that way. If I get hundreds or thousands of other people to use the letter B as a sigil in the same way the intent and magick piles up, making it stronger. So basically, while the Elder Futhark wasn't originally used for magick, I firmly believe that it can be used as such now thanks to the evolution of people's intent and desires.
Knowst how to carve them? How to interpret them? Knowst how to colour them? How to test them? Knowst how to ask them? How to offer them? Knowst how to send them? How to stop them?

well as u said ... there where incraved on decaying materials (wood) for devination as stated by the romans.....and like u said only 200 years later they appear to be used in general ....when comparing these point with the song of odin it does indeed makes since that runes was magical staves initialy .......🙏🏼
Hey Arith, would you say that runic numerology is something that germanic people did in pre christian times? Or is it also an addition from recent centuries?
I'm curious, where in Tolkien's fictions do you find him presenting the runes as a magical device? As far as I know in LOTR and The Hobbit they are just the writing of the Dwarves, used to mark their maps, tombs, etc.. It's true he puts writing on the door to Moria, but this is Elvish script (not runes) and really only gives a clue, the true magic is voice-activated.
Hello there! Good question. In the Song of Durin it speaks of "runes of power", this appears in several instances, not just the power of the runes at the Moria Gate/Door, which are clearly magical as they are activated by voice therefore they have magic in them and not just for writing, but also the "moon runes" in the Hobbit, whose magic hides them and can only be read at that special moon; remember Merry and Pippin's swords (Books) which contain runes and are of great ancient power; Tolkien (in The Hobbit) stated that the magic swords of elven folk had their names in runes, although it doesn't specifically say that the runes give power or magic, but they are runes engraved on magic objects and not on ordinary objects, which may indicate the idea of "runes of power"; according to Bilbo's song, Earendil's shield had runes for warding, so this gives them a specific magic purpose. This idea of runes in the shield is also mentioned for the runes in objects with similar effects such as on the Helm of Hador and the warhorn that Eowyn gives to Merry after the defeat of Sauron (in the books again). What Tolkien demonstrates here, especially in these three last cases, is that the runes themselves enhance the powers/intentions for which the objects have been created. Although it is true that the function of Runes in Tolkien's works are more focused on written forms of the peoples' of Middle Earth, he does make quite a few mentions of runes of power. But the "problem" here isn't Tolkien. The idea that Runes (real historical runes) have magic, was also influenced by Tolkien's works, but not necessarily by Tolkien himself but by his readers. Tolkien didn't state that historical runes were for magic, but his readers have drawn that conclusion due to his works, and many authors that came after started to give magical purposes for runes, hence influencing further this idea concerning real historical runes.
A blank rune makes sense to me, I see many blank or what I would call open area's in your video, I would say this represent either openness, receptivity, or sameness. In art, or writing most mediums are blank and I think the main purpose is to collect energy, matter, data, or information, to see the potentials of an individual, which relate to nutrition and media inputs. Thus people can be guided or directed into other areas of the market or initiatory/academic hierarchies, for profit and for power as well as universal realization.

@@ArithHärger Hahaha they do. 😂 My take on the possible stories behind these stones aren't strictly academic either, they're meant to awaken the same curiosity I have for these stones in the viewer. So I totally get what you mean with academic vs non academic. Keep going👍
Great video
Арит отлично, в который раз все комплексно и лаконично!!!🙂🔥🌄🌪🌊🌝🌞🌞🌞⚡🌠🌌👍🤝
ive revised my rune chart based on your posts...now,because of this, there are times when i can predict the next rune i draw based on the conversation im having...which is enough for me to say your descriptions are accurate...im a bit of a spooky old babayuga but ive been many things, also have mrs and mr crow decades before i was ever aware of norse beliefs...all my journey is backwards while going forwards ..but yeah thankyou ,previous meanings i had made runes confusing and noncommunicative....especially algiz, and ingwaz...
I take it that the people who thumbs down on this video either didn't like what he had to say because it conflicted with their beliefs or just because their trolls. We know how to deal with trolls

Still think I'm getting a Munin tattoo. Runes just flat out look badass, but at least Im informed now, too.
I generally use the runes to set intention. If I want a protection charm I'd write runes I associate with protection. And as a hobby I like making designs containing runes or combinations of them to represent certain ideas. But I've tried divination and I seem to be terrible at it. I'm so jealous of those who can! The most I can do is read smoke from candles
Runes are the letters in a set of related alphabets known as runic alphabets native to the Germanic peoples. Runes were used to write various Germanic languages before they adopted the Latin alphabet,
Thank you
I love the term “purely nerd”
Arith, what is your view on Sanatana Dharma(Hinduism)? I feel that what we speak of is like a sister faith/principles of nature. Do you think there are things we can use to help fill in the blanks when practicing the old faiths of our people? One more, haha do you know of and your opinion on Robert Sepehrs works?
I jump from a 2018 video to this one and that beard though......This man really is doing his ancestry proud with those biceps and forearms.
Probably one of my favorite contributions of your own work!
No as much for the acedemia!
I look up to u arith u inspire me thank u so much for all that u do
i would like to hear your oppinion on turkic runes 🙏🏼
Never trust guy who says he doesn't care about what you believe in .be very careful friends
The Svingerud Stone, which dates back to between the years 1 and 250 AD, suggests that the runes might have been in use in Tacitus's time!
Could you do a video about alleged hauntings and ghosts and supernatural events as we now say ? Given Halloween is around the corner 😎
Love your videos brother!!! SKÀL💀🍻
Weird question.
If you look over your left shoulder. Is that a step stool? Is it hanging on the wall?
how come you dont have dagaz in your rune serie videos, it would be useful to me :(
I haven't finished the series yet hehe. All in due time ^^
I have a feeling this question has been answered by the part of the video that points out the origin of the elder futhark and that we may not even have all the runes that existed, but: where does the part about the three aetts come from?
Arith Härger ❤️
@@ArithHärger Speaking of these books, do you have a video/are planning to do a video of books you find are a good source of information regarding runes/mythology/history. In regards to having to explain, people tend to dismiss evidence simply because it does not fit with what they believe to be true. Keep up the good work.
Hello Arith, which runes is the reincarnation rune? I can tell you are a sun and moon worshipper, THAT'S GREAT.
"Nerd stuff" lolol😍
I would so love you to cover the concept of what is termed Wyrd.. or Urd or urðr forgive me if that is totally wrong making the effort..no swedish or norse known by me. Such a concept would empower so many of us descendants in Europe and anywhere really.
Do they just stop their practice when they get to parts of veneration or worship
that have no information?
I'm a neo-pagan. I'm fully aware most of what I do is not historically accurate.
I'm just curious.
Elven powah
Yeah!
Ok video is esoteric so let's talk magick 😎
While the old Norse might not have actually used the runes for magick or divination in the way that people try to use them now, it doesn't mean you can't use them.
Have you seen the Phoenician alphabet? it look a lot like Runes, Iberia is a common factor, but the timeline don´t fit.. Runegymanastik, lol maybe it was used on the signal hills (bavnehøje)
Awesome
well as u said ... there where incraved on decaying materials (wood) for devination as stated by the romans.....and like u said only 200 years later they appear to be used in general ....when comparing these point with the song of odin it does indeed makes since that runes was magical staves initialy .......🙏🏼
@@ArithHärger Thank you for producing the receipts on Tolkien! It has been a while since I last read any of those works.
I love how good is your English accent and yet you cannot avoid the portuguese entonation 🤣🤣🤣
*Watching the bit about runic yoga while drinking a runic soy latte*
I had something very old with runes on it. It had a rune I remember that had a wheel type of rune on it. Have you seen one like this?
