Picked up a Peavey Windsor head the other day! It's sick
I got one too! I love it!
Loving to use a Sovtek Mig 100H at the moment. So much bottom end, and takes fuzz pedals so well.
Didn’t know they made a 100w!
The Orange Dual darks are very underrated. channel B with shape cranked and a big boost is a great hybrid doomy death metal tone.
It’s my current rig and dream amp setup too: I use a magic pedals Hm2clone or a TC integrated preamp to boost the DD100LTD. I like the different frequencies this amp produces compared to the OR120 and other more commonly used amps. I use it with GT75s and K100 4x12s.
Bro everyone knows those are amazing but like $3500
My setup is already in the works.
1- Sunn Model T
1- Laney AOR 100
2- Worshiper 6x12 cabinets
That’s a really awesome setup!
Also can’t forget the ol’ Plexi.
It's true. With pedals they can do it. And they're a great amp for cutting through, in combination with an amp that does well with the low-end and lower-mids. Like an Orange Rockerverb 100, or an Ampeg V-4b.
I knew I was forgetting something haha
@ hah!!
Superlead with a Black Russian Big Muff crushes skulls. Also with the FU-2 👍.
@@thechannelforeverything2170 DS1 is undervalued too. Especially with a loud clean Marshall.
I run a Vox AC30 but I run a pedal loop switcher that allows me to switch between the AC30 preamp and my Fuzzlord FET120 pedal.
Loop 1 - send is connected to the input on the amp, return is connected to the send on the effects loop
Loop 2 - Fuzzlord Fet120 is run normally
The output of the loop pedal is plugged into the return on the effects loop
I jammed with a few guys one time and they were blown away with the setup because when I swap to the Fuzzlord into the Vox Poweramp it is not what you expect to hear
I might play around with this a bit more and arrange my drive pedals for the ones that pair best with the Vox preamp and drive pedals that pair best with the Fuzzlord when I get a chance
I’ve tried to get some heavier sounds out of my AC15 but I think the open back doesn’t really work for a tight sound. I’ve thought about trying to make a a custom cover for the back to make it a closed cabinet.
Bass player here.
Current rig: 350w Ampeg BA-210 combo. It'll do what I need while playing with friends and I'm not a gigging musician. It can get pretty hairy when you engage the Scrambler circuit along with some fuzz.
Dream rig: Sunn Model T, but I'm not sure if that's just because of the legacy these units have. No chance I'd ever be able to afford one though.
Scrambler is a badass fuzz!
Nice video, thanks!!
Current setup:
- Orange Overdrive Series II that I slam with a Life pedal, Fuzzdöden or Kingtone Fuzz V2. I add add a Wampler Tumnus to tighten things up when attack is needed.
- Love my Randall RM50 with a Tweed module. It sounds dope too with the same pedals.
- Marshall 1960 4x12 (2 Greenbacks + 2 V30)
Dream:
Green Matamp GT1 mkII and 4x12
Or
Dean Costello Audio Heavy Metal Warfare
Wait… it’s my dream… I want ’em both ❤️🔥
I saw your video on the orange amp and I thought it was great how you explained it. Love your videos thanks for posting. Keep it up.
Thanks for watching that one!
Big like 🔥👍. Great Job 🔝
Thank you!
I’ve got an AOR-50 Series 2, mine was built in 1991. It sounds absolutely killer, and this one has an effects loop where I think the Series 1/Pro Tube versions had a line in.
Great amp 🔥
I'm packing a, HIWATT DR-103 into a LANEY 1959 4x12 loaded with FANE F-70's ! ...living the dream!
Gotta be Matamp and Hiwatt 🖤⚡
🔥🔥
I have a Blackface 68 Bassman but my grandpa keeps loaning it to people.
I’ve also had two super crushes I keep coming back to them.
Great advice on practicing!
🙏
I used to run two Aims Eclipsor’s into Electricamp USA 4x12 and 6x12 cabs which was very loud and rad, but these days I’m much happier with my pine box Sovtek Tube Midget and matching Emperor 2x12 with Weber silver wolf and grey wolf speakers. Still plenty loud and way more portable.
Currently running a Sunn Concert Lead Red Knob. I love it!
Great video! Awesome amp selection.
My amp current setup is:
- Orange Rockerverb mkII 100
- Orange AD30HTC
Both going through a pair Syko Cabs 2x12 with Celestion V30s and Eminence Governors.
Disclaimer: I make those cabs 😅
Pedal selection comes and goes but the main players are always Earthquaker Devices Plumes and Boss HM2.
That’s badass you make those cabs I’ve checked out your work before 🔥
@FuzzlordEffects thanks a lot man!!! I appreciated it! 🙌
I've got 1971 Fender Bassman and an Orange Custom Shop 50. I'm primarily a funk and soul player but for doom, I actually reach for the Fender! It takes fuzz really well, whereas the Orange caves in too easily.
When I bought the Bassman, the sales guy hooked it up to a 16ohm cab (which isn't ideal for a 4ohm head!) but oh man making the transformer work harder yielded some of the best overdrive I've heard!
Ordered my GT1 last month 😎
Currently rockin a supercrush 100 but the dream amp currently would be a good ol' JCM 800
Bass player here:
2008 Fender American Standard Pbass with EMG PCSX pickup
Run that into splitter. Highs go into a ProCo Rat 2 into EQD PLUMES into 70s Fender Bassman Ten. Lows go into Black Russian Big Muff into Eden E300T head and Ampeg 8x10e. The Eden is 320 watts with KT88 power tubes. I'll sometimes put a Catalinbread SFT after the Big Muff to give the fuzz a different flavor.
The only thing id change up would be speaker cabs. I'd like to run lows through the Eden with 2 2x15s and the highs through the Fender Bassman Ten (rehoused to just the amp head) with an 8x10 or 2 4x12s. I'd set it up so a 2x15 is on either side of the 2 4x12s
I'd def.like to hear that
I HAD A FENDER BASSMAN,sold it long before knowing or liking doom/ stoner/ sludge m.
Whyyyyyy god?!?! Whyyyyy Am i cursed to live like this?!?!
Currently rocking an Orange TH100. I’ve been eyeing up a Laney AOR 100 as my next amp. The JCM800 is also on my list of amps I eventually want to own.
I’m currently rocking a Sovtek MIG100u and a Laney AOR50 Series II and in my opinion they’re the greatest amps ever conceived! Especially paired with an FU2 of course ;)
Great amp picks and thanks for grabbing a FU-2!
My last band wasnt doom, but my rig was a JVM 210 boosted with a metal zone, and a boss gt1000 for effects
Brutal setup 🙌
still loving my supercrush 100 at the moment...mojotone greyhound speakers are nice with it too
I run a rockerverb mk2 50 with kt88s , sounds mint.
Acapulco gold into any clean channel with EQ or a Rat gets pretty doomy, i have a behringer SF300 too
Anything else is tone x with my powerstage into a marshall half stack, or good IRs (ownhammer, Tony Iommi Laney cabs)
Behringer Fuzz are sick!!
My amp set-up is absolutely deadly: Blackstar ID:Core 20 watt!! 😂😂 😭 My Blackstar ID:Core 150 crapped out on me, so had to grab what I could afford. The rest, either my Epiphone SG Custom, paintjob blacker than trve kult black, or my Ibanez "I look like a PRS until you get close," into an EQD Plumes to EQD Hizumitas to EQD Afterneath into a Boss DD-7. I can go full-Boris and with a few tweaks be playing Johnny Cash, so it works for me! Great video, thanks for the content man!
I use a '00s Randall RT2/50 power amp and a '85 Kitty Hawk Quattro preamp, gets into the AOR ballpark. It really is my desert island amp- if i really need more i can add more cabs or pedals.
Randall 1003 and two 4X12. My pedalboard is in the works.
My set up:
Gibson Explorer with Alchemist Pups or a Dunable R2 in C
Decimator Noisegate
MXR 6B EQ
Overdrive - I have a handful of them
Fuzzlord M4
Laney AOR
4x12 with CV30's and Creambacks on top of another 4x12 with Greenbacks and Creambacks
It is glorious.
Amazing setup! Love the R2
I use a combination of Orange Rocker and Marshall JTM. The orange takes more of the lows and low-mids, and I run it a bit cleaner. The Marshall does the mids and treble and I run it crunchy, with the bass dialed down. Thinking of adding a Plexi and Ampeg V-4b later. But torn between the Plexi and a Laney Supergroup. Tempted with the Laney, but then it's probably a bit close to the JTM.
That’s a killer combo!
I bought a Peavey Penta half stack off craigslist for 600 dollars. Jason I'm pretty sure you'd love this amp. It has a rotary switch to go between 5 different Marshall type circuits, but the first one is a JTM style single channel clean tone. Its very big and warm and its 140 watts! The other 4 modes are sort of underwhelming without an attenuator but its worth the price just for the first mode. Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd had his own custom version that was just the amp with red tolex.
I've got a Bugera Trirec into a pair of 4x12s, one is a smaller Marshall slant cab I put some Eminence speakers in (Wizards and Cannabis Rexes) and the other is as it came from the used pile at the instrument store, beige tolex and all. Haven't opened it to see what speakers are inside but it gets loud without issue. Mostly I play into the clean channel with an overdrive and fuzz pedal but it's a hundred tube watts, does the job no problem. If I ever decide I want something else I'll probably shop for a weird solid state head like a Hilbish Beta.
Current rig: Dean ML79 => Nux tuner => Dunlop Cry Baby Mini => EHX Big Muff => Nux OD => Behringer chorus => Marshall MG100DFX. From blues to death metal, it does it all. The dream amp would be an Orange OR120 paired with an Orange 4x12, that thing is beautiful and SCREAMS
This video came at a perfect time. I just got into doom and I JUST got an
05 Orange cab with V30’s
Annnnd my Peavey Windsor just died.
I’m an Amplitube 5 poser. But the Hendrix package came with a Fender Bassman and I find myself using it all the time. No it’s not the same. No it doesn’t capture the volume like a real amp. However the big amps in Amplitube sound waaaay better than real smaller amps for doomy stuff.
The Thunderverb, OR120, Hiwatt, Sunn, Bassman, and occasionally the Showman get constant use from me. My neighbors love it.
Current amp set up: Line 6 Helix
Dream amp: Science Mother
Nice!
Tube:SunnmodelT, Peavey xxx(if I want amp gain mostly) or diezel vh4 the 4th channel
Ss:Peavey transtube amps with their power amp controls make them the best sounding solid state pedal platforms.
Fuzzes sound sick.
EVH 5153 el34 on the blue channel and a DA120 are my main dirt. I use the matching 212 but with Mojotone BV series speakers.
Epiphone SG Cherry Red Ltd Edition, LTD Phoenix 1000 Red, metalzone crowbar settings, RAT (I change it up constantly), several different Airis Effects fuzzes/drives, Orange Crush Pro 120/Rockerverb MKIII, AOR100, and a black PPC212
Thx for your Videos.
Please give us a list of the Riffs Played in the video.
Got your awesome mf 4 pedal hitting the clean Channel of a hk tubemeister deluxe 40. I like it! sometimes i add some gain, or eq into fxloop. Nomnomnom
Guitar is a harley benton sg ripp off. The cabin is equipped with 2 celestion vintage 30.
Best wishes
So I have a NMV 74' Plexi a 75' MODDED MV 75' OR120 and a JCM2000, run into a Torpedo Captor X into a 1960A with 2xGBs and 2xV30s and an Orange PPC 412 loaded with V30s. I also run the stereo XLR outputs to my mixing board into Ableton live where I run that through a Freidman 412 loaded GBs IR and a PPC V30s IR. I blend the IRs with the real cabs and it just insane the tone I get. This my doom configuration and have other configs for different types of music. For Doom I play that OR120, the Plexi has a great doom tone but the OR120 bass response is just perfect for stoner doom, i recorded both and I can pick out the OR120 right away, no contest. And the GB and V30 blend both real and IR, I can't imagine a better choice.
Like I said I feel like I have dream rig caliber rig but I do want a 50w JCM800, PROTUBE 50 and the EHV Mig 50 and a EVH
my current setup it is blackstar ht-20 studio with fender bassman fuzz. My dream setup it is fender bassman or marshall plexi with fender bassman fuzz or big muff. And all this with phaser.
Most overlooked amp is a Mesa Mark V 90W head. I play a wide range of music but even for doom I get compliments regularly.
Current: Peavey vkI 112
Dream: 6505 full stack
Badass!
my favorite is the Laney AO50 then the JCM 800. Cant beat either of these amps.
Great picks!
Do you have an opinion on the JPTR Titan?
Haven’t played one but they look awesome
One of my favorite amps is my EMC G110, it takes my Fuzzlord Dronemaster pretty well. It's solid state, single channel, and extremely clean, almost too clean in a way, its like you need an overdrive just to get it just to do a pushed clean then add the fuzz or distortion on top of that. But I paid 100 bucks for it and it's punishingly loud, but don't even know how many watts it is because they're so rare.
I have a few sound clips on my channel if anyone is curious what it sounds like, I'm one of like 2-3 people on UA-cam that has videos of any EMC amp period, they're that obscure 😂
I'm not a doom player but I tend to prefer "doom" amps. I.e. All tube, high headroom, 100+ watt vintage amps. I have a fairly big collection of amps that I've worked very hard for and I'm very proud of and some of my favorites and the ones which would be considered "doom" amps are my mid-70's Orange OR-120, my 70's Hiwatt DR103, my 200 watt 1972 Marshall Major (that was owned and originally ordered by Manny Charlton of Nazareth on the recommendation of Ritchie Blackmore), my purple tolex 1969 Marshall Super Bass and my 1972 Marshall Super Lead which has had some slight modifications to sound a little more like a Super Bass, a 1979 50 watt Marshall JMP 2x12 combo. I also have a "blue line," late 1960's Ampeg SVT that although I primarily use for bass, is another amp that sounds great for big, fat, high headroom cleans and doom guitar and a mid-90's Mesa Boogie Tremoverb Dual Rectifier which also is very suitable for the same thing. It has a _very_ underrated clean channel that's great as a pedal platform doom amp and of course has the classic Dual Rectifier distortion channel. I _really_ would like to buy a Sunn Model T. I was lucky enough to try one and it blew me away.
Currently I have a Ampeg SS-150 Head and Ampeg VH-150 Head and two Ampeg V412 cabs with V30's and to many pedals to mention. But now that Sunn is back I would like to get a new Sunn Beta Lead Head and the new 1,000 watt DoomBox 4x12 cab.
Currently using an OR15 and Fender Deluxe in stereo. Dream amp is an OR50 or OR30
I'm personally biased because these were my first amps but nothing says doom quite like a 1970s Solid State Peavey
Loud as fuck, heavy as fuck, takes pedals like a champion
A Line6 Spider HD 100 into a mesa 4X12 cab, boosted by a DODFX33, then a Fuzzlord FU-2
I dream of a matamp. But I'm satisfied w my musician 😁
🙌
Currently I have no amp, too many kids under 5 so I got rid of my Marshall Origin 50, which was a pretty ok pedal platform.
Currently playing around with digital and pedals, using a Boss GX-100, a Wren and Cuff box of war, a Pepers pedals Rot, and an SD1.
I am currently building a dedicated play space in an external shed - just adding some sound insulation and electricity etc. When that is finished I will look at picking up a proper amp again, currently liking Laney, and locally I can see a GH100R and matching 4x12 (both in that interesting red and black livery). Jason, what are your thought on this as an amp for running pedals and making music of a doom persuasion? Will this be similar enough to an AOR, or GH100L? It's own thing? Or should I keep looking. I live at the bottom of New Zealand so don't see too many amps that I would ordinarily look for come up for sale very often.
I scored a MusicMan 2*12 HD130 combo. That is like a Twin with more power!
Hey Ike! That is so awesome you got one of those :) I should have included that one in the video it’s a great amp. My dad had one for a long time now it’s one of the 3 amps I have 🔊
My Peavey Winsors probably close as ill be able to get to an 800. Paired with a behringer super fuzz and shin i unpleasant companion fuzz. All day!!
Great tube amp for the money!
Current set up is a peavey P.A head and home made 4x12
Dream amp anything sunn
Those are loud!
Randall equals Dimebag and Phil from Pantera, thats also why Eyehategod and Crowbar had them back in the day….
I actually know the reason for it because I’m from Nola and used to see the guys. New Orleans Music Exchange on Magazine and Lanier Music were both Randal carriers. In the 90s it was really hard to find a Boogie or Marshall being sold by these guys everything was Randall and it just became a popular amp for Nola sludge bands being readily available everyone was selling a used one.
The other most common amp was Peavey because they’re right there in MS. In 90s Nola you were a fancy pants if you had a Marshal or Boogie.
@ don’t forget Phil produced both those bands. I remember when Randall was everywhere. Honestly, I hate those amps. I remember seeing Spickle playing solid state Ampegs, Suplecs used a 900….
WHATS THE RIFF AT 19:14 I know I’ve heard it
Solidarity reign by Amenra, I think :)
@@FuzzlordEffectsmakes sense since that’s the band that turned me haha
A Peavey vtm is great doom amp I don't know why everyone loves orange amps so much there very middle of the road sound to me not a lot of gain or much of anything I've had a super crush and traded it for a sunn alpha combo that's so crazy loud with a speaker out box connected to it
Hey Jason. Have you gotten the chance to check out the Matamp GT1 MII? And if so what are your thoughts? I’m pretty close to pulling the trigger on that one so any insight from you is appreciated.
P. S. I’m too embarrassed to tell you what I’m using atm. Love your videos and take care.
I have several Matamp’s like the GT120, GTO 100, and a GT1. I can easily say the GT1 is much more versatile than the GT120.
Fender telecaster > Mogami overdrive cabel > Oranger Rocker 32 with greenbacks.
Is that a reupload ?
Nah
Mg100hdfx 1/2 stack I picked up for 300.00.
Can anyone comment on a Randall RG200 combo? 2x12, 200 watts.
Epi flying v - black arts raw heart (dod 250 side) - fuzzlord fw70 - orange custom shop 50 - marshall jcm 900 4x12
Desert island rig is probably a matamp gt120 with a matching cab
