Nice video. I used a Hoover SteamVac a few years ago at a motel (that's what they had) to suck water out of more than twenty rooms that had flooded from a driving rain going under all of the doors. It was a very long night of emptying the recovery tank every minute or so, over hundreds of times. I also got to clean the carpets with it each time someone vacated so I got very familiar with these models. I like them. They are simple to use, and clean up afterwards, and the spin brushes do a good job. I wish they were better made these days, but you've got a good one.
I agree. When hoover went to china, their brand became bad. The guardsman, despite its strong resemblance and similarity to the old convertible, has been critically reviewed. Even though its a model that was made from before hoover went to china, the quality of it has become poor.
Thumbs up 😉 and a little bit of advice, go back over and quickly rinse it with hot water. You'll get ever more dirt up, yeah it's more water on the carpet but it gets it cleaner than just washing alone. Then go back over and do your drying passes. Carpet will look like new.
true, though it might be interesting to see which one would do better at cleaning the carpet. then again one might have an unfair advantage over the other.
Well, they would clean the carpet differently. One forces water into the pile, scrubs, then extracts while the other gently deposits, brushes and lifts off I suppose.
good point. But the one advantage that both would have over any (any i mean ANY) carpet cleaner is that they both have a headlight. I'm actually surprised that this machine even has one!
Hi, I have a question about this. I recently bought one and the water tank has a hole and the water comes out. Is there a piece on the bottom that covers this hole? Thank you.
VacLab Thank you for your response! It’s the water tank but it’s the very bottom part of the water tank. I bought mine secondhand & I think that it may be missing a part because the water comes out. When you put the water and cleaning solution in in the video nothing came out, but mine has a hole and spills out.
@@AliyaSmithh On the bottom of the top water tank, there should be a functioning plunger piece of plastic that looks like an "X". If that is missing, water will leak out.
Maurice Long well yes, I imagine that it would since it doesn't have a bag, just a recovery bin. I suppose you could say it also has one water cyclone too. 😀

I'm sure when you have guests over they're probably so jealous of your clean carpets, haha. It's so nice and taken care of!
Nowa Das one of the only carpet comments I've ever gotten is from my 80+ year old mother. She said, "There's never a stain." Works for me...

Thomas Rectenwald yup, I've done that before. Might make the video a little long though... 😃
VacLab but I like the long video's 😢😢😢 lol.
All former great American companies now have only 2 goals: Executive compensation and paying no taxes. Nothing else. No exceptions.
Back when Hoover was owned by Newton-based Maytag Corporation!
No it was not it was still the hoover company not Maytag yet in the 2000s then it was the Maytag company
thx for making this I want that so bad I have a hoover spinscub powermax
Wizerd it was on my to do list, but it took longer because this video required two people to make.
lol iv been looking for one of those I want a steamvac but I want the wide oath
wish a windtunnel sound like that
Any idea what this machine cost, brand new, back in 1999?
Sour Puss. List price was around $400.
@@VacLab lmao that is alot
Are these machines only recommended for stains or can it pick up lots of fine dirt and dust in your carpet?
They are water extractors, so whatever mixes well with water I suppose.
Idea for a test: hoover widepath steamvac vs Kirby shampooer. See which one cleans better.
john erikson one shampoos and the other extracts water. Pretty different machine types.

john erikson yup, headlights automatically win! 😃

Just to be clear, are you referring to the top tank or the bottom recovery tank?

VacLab Okay, will be returning it then. Thank you so much for your replies!
@@AliyaSmithh you can buy the tank at partswarehouse.com or any other part you need. They carry a lot of replacement parts.
Are you planning to get a Self Propelled Windtunnel?
Tylon Barnes not that I know of...😃
instead of putting water on th floor my hoovers front cover comes off
Sound like a bag less hoover

All you gotta do is look on eBay
