  • A public information film produced by Sorel Films for Ansvar Insurance Company.
From BFI database: Designed to show how alcohol affects a driver's judgement and concentration. A number of experienced drivers are shown being put through a series of rigorous road tests after taking carefully measured doses of alcohol. The film also considers police accident records on drinking and driving. Intended for general audiences.
This is an old transfer of a faded 16mm library print. Sorry about the quality, but this is the only copy I have.

Doyle’s Escort from Professionals with its original plates! Worth around 40k at least now!

It's the actual one Doyle drove in The Professionals. 👍

What have we learned from this? 1: They used cheap film stock. 2: Doyle’s car was a Ford demo vehicle. 3: Avoid crashing in to Volvos.

I wouldn't have answered these questions even without any alcohol.

Some of those questions - what month does Easter fall on this year? I'd have to look that up. A lot of the others were pretty obscure. It would be a better idea to have simple math problems or something like that.

That is the Escort from The Professionals on its genuine number plate. RS owners club would probably like to see this.

The Professionals RS2000 was originally registered PNO 672R. It was on the Ford press fleet then, before being supplied to the programme, it was given a vinyl roof with Webasto folding sunroof and given fake plates (PNO 641T) to make it look up to date for the series

Definitely The Professionals RS2000, the GB badge on the boot and the newer Ford badge on the front grill give it away. The number plate in this video is the original one issued to the car when it was new. Interesting to see it sans sunroof, this must have been just before it was used for filming or at least very early into the episodes, as I think it was during 1978 it was first used...

Alcohol seems to affect some people more than others - the guy on 55mg seemed to perform worse than those on 167mg. That guy was legal but may not have made it home. Basically dont drink if you're going to drive so you won't get nicked and avoid having an accident.

And this being the 1970s, no doubt the actors all drove home afterwards while still pissed.

The crashed Rover p6 at 13:16 astonishingly was put back onto the road and finally taken off in 1987. No seat belts used and a soft Webasto roof would certainly explain why the couple were ejected out of their car.
I bet the next owners knew nothing of its tragic history! OBH 499P

I wonder if they waited until it was chucking it down or it was just coincidence they filmed it when it was chucking it down. As the rain would've made a difference, only a little but of course we (hopefully!) all know about double stopping distances.

I think a 10 year ban minimum might just put some people off driving after drinking. I've never had a drink and drive in 26 years of driving. My licence means too much to me

Make it a zero limit, lifetime ban first offence, still would not deter some idiotic fools

Totally agree, I have my test soon but I will NEVER drink and drive, not even one drink, not worth the risk. You can line up 10 people and each one that one drink would affect others differently. Stupidity.

Has anyone noticed that David (from the start of the video, with a group of "mates") features again at 16:05?
A lesson to remember: if your mates urge you to drink more, they are either not your mates or they are testing your ability to resist breaking the law (if you do resist, you'll most likely win their respect).

They don't figure in fatigue. My ex got away with smashing her golf gti on the m25 when she fell sleep at the wheel. No fucking test for that. She got away scot free. If she had been drinking, different story!

Yep, with it being a motorway you can imagine the horrors of who she could have hit...reminds me of that (I believe it was a Think!) "John is warm amd relaxed, he has his family around him" turns out though they're in a car and then crash and turn over, he fell asleep.

But also, miss that time when just being brown and slightly out of focus, just before the light faded, was just how every day was. and conkers. ripped cords. people called justin. hope
