Everyone at their absolute peak, especially Placido. I'd read about this legendary performance many years ago, so glad to finally get to hear it! It lives up to its reputation. I recall an interview long ago in which Madame Scotto said the only occasions when she didn't want to kill Scarpia was when he was sung by Sherrill Milnes, because he was 'such a beautiful man'!
It was a great day in the park. I’ve seen Domingo at least 50 times, starting in 1972. Not always happy (me) but when this performance ended EVERYONE said that it was the best that they ever heard him. The sound check was fantastic as well.
They had their day in the sun , literally in this case, it being an outdoor setting this performance.
Grazie tante per la musica M* Puccini
