funky kong was actually added to the pipes as a "normal high end" item, i think this year. the problem is he's with about 15 other normal high end items. since most 100 pipes only have 1 spotlight driver and 1 normal high end driver at random, you have like a 1 in 16 chance of actually pulling funky kong! but to even get that you would need like 450 rubies to even go through all 100 pipes
@@Dmac9203 true thinking about it but it’s more the practises in game like microtransactions and that fake online that didn’t leave smiles on our faces
@@elikramer8282 Well, as Troy said, it's pretty good for a mobile game. The problem is that it really sucks compared to the main MK games, because "good mobile game" is a very low bar.
I’ve been playing since day one, and honestly the game is definitely a lot better from launch. It’s extremely Free to Play friendly (I’m FTP and I have more than half of the high end stuff), and while simple, it’s enjoyable for what it is. One thing to keep in mind, is that this isn’t a mainline Mario Kart, it’s a MINI Mario Kart. It has a really different format, so I can understand Troy questioning the lack of the typical modes. I thought that too at first, but over time, I’ve learned to accept its odd format. It’s a harmless, enjoyable, little mobile Mario Kart
My main problem with Mario Kart Tour is that it's getting constant characters and track updates while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has nothing. I would have loved it if both of them were in sync with their DLCs.
@@thegrassguy2871 you dont *have* to pay to play as mario. He is easily obtainable in every pipe or in the shop for 3000 coins. He has also been given away for free well over 10 times. You can *choose* to pay to play as mario, but that would be utterly pointless given how easy he is to obtain.
How could you not play Merry Mountain? One of the best new tracks we got in years! That being said, the actual tracks and sheer amount of characters are easily the highlight of this game. Been playing almost daily since the Vancouver Tour, and it perfectly in encapsulates what it should do I think. For someone who doesn't play Mobile games at all, this still has been a fun time killer over the last few dry years of no news of a new Mario Kart title. (And will probably remain my personal Mario Kart 9 until we finally get one in 60 years)
I feel the same way tbh, this game has improved alot since launch (new original debut characters, new retros, Merry Mountain & Ninja Hideaway, tier shop, token shop, improved multiplayer, etc.) It's actually the only mobile game I care for & play daily
There is a multiplayer mode now, and it’s the best part of the game. There’s a Mogi lounge, an active clan scene, MKTour even had its own World Cup this year
@@UrSoulsBelong2No1 most people don't know what the hell they're doing and don't understand basic lag concepts and other things, so that probably contributes to why they hate it lol
@@davidriedy5977 exactly. When I used to play competitive people would be saying things like ‘Nintendo should remove the lag it’s ruining the game.’ Somehow they don’t understand that playing with players across the world in a fast paced racing game will always be laggy. It happens in every mario kart game.
@@davidriedy5977 Yup, that's so goddamn true lmao...but, still man, it's so incredibly frustrating to see these kind of ppl talking utter nonsensical bs...meanwhile I'm over here being like : "the fuq you talking about"
Thanks for making a video for the game, its really not that bad tbh. I play it since day 1 and still enjoy it even if the hype toned down. The main gimmick of the game is to keep your combo and get the highest scores possible which to me is a fun idea and quite the challenge too. Its something new and even if you dont want to spend money on the game its still an interesting experience with a lot of beautiful courses!
Yeah I really enjoy the track work of this game. Plus driving them backwards should be a mode implemented in the new mainline mk game. Also, I really like the different skins you get for characters such as the Golden king boo and Santa Bowser and Cowboy Wario
Tour has grown tremendously from the past two years since it's release. It's added such things like Landscape Mode, Auto Mode, Token & Tier Shop, Team Rallies and just so much more! Yes sadly some aspects of the game that made it pretty bad to most are still here, but the game is improving none of the less! Tour has brought some of the BEST NEW tracks EVER such as Merry Mountain, Berlin Byways and of course Ninja Hideaway! While Tour isn't exactly still in the best shape currently, it's still so fun and its been making itself more "free" to players with all these new enhanced options to make it less needing to pay for anything! It still has some great potential and if they use it correctly, it can become a very amazing MK (not that it isn't already imo).
Ik you dedicate your channel to the game but really most tours are bland and when they do something it’s not enough to make up for it being p2w. Hopefully the game removes all p2w features and maybe a lot of people will like it. When I say remove p2w features I mean make it easier to get high ends and more challenges for rubies and rare high ends to keep ppl engaged. Overall the game could be a masterpiece of a mobile game but atm it really shows how much of a p2w game it is.
@@davidriedy5977 it used to have smart steering always enabled to keep you on the track which drove me away, may be worth redownloading if they fixed that problem
@@Aus10Ham ah ok, smart steering is something that you have the option to turn off. However it is still pretty difficult to fall off the track. Mainly turning off smart steering would give you benefits as far as going through offroad for shortcuts. There are definitely a lot of things I could speak on regarding respawns and falling off the tracks in this game but I won't lol
Mario Kart Tour is an amazing game. It still has a bit to work on like controller support and have be a little bit more F2P friendly. In my opinion this is the mainline Mario Kart we've all been waiting for since how much updates it's been getting. I've been a fan of this game since Day 1 (New York Tour 1)
I like to treat this game as that handheld game between console releases, since with Switch there won't be dedicated handheld console this makes a natural step.
"Mario Kart Double Dash, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart Wii are all phenomenal games. And, you know, 8 Deluxe is really polished" That section made me laugh for a while lol
I don't usually comment cause there's not really much for me to comment on, I just enjoy watching the videos and stuff, but seeing as I actually play this game quite a bit I can maybe share a little bit of insight haha. So there actually is a multiplayer mode now, where you can play online races against actual people, moreso like traditional Mario Kart. There is a singleplayer and a multiplayer element to this game; I used to be really into SP but the past year it's just been all MP for me. There's actually a small competitive community that has developed where there are clan wars, tournaments, mogis, time trial rankings, etc. The time trials in this game are of course very different than in other MK games, like obviously usually you're gonna have a TT mode and you can go and race each track, try and get a good time, etc. In this game, since there are typically only 2 (occasionally 3) time trials in each tour as bonus challenges, all we can do is just play the tracks it gives us for the 2 week duration of the tour, and we all submit our times and whoever has the best time out of all the submissions of that tour gets the "World Record." It's different from your typical TT mode like I said but I mean we can only make do with what the game gives us haha. I actually really enjoy time trialing, it was the thing I first got into before I then began playing in clan wars and mogis and etc. I had a bit of a late start but I have been improving to the point where lately I am in contention for WRs in 4 of the last 5 tours, including Rosalina's Ice World a couple tours ago, where I had the splits for WR but frustratingly could never end up getting the run lol. I'm rambling lol but I really enjoy time trialing and talking about it haha. One of the time trials this tour actually is Maple Treeway, and it is a track that I actually maybe could get WR there too. I've already beaten the WR that was set the last time the track appeared (tracks can reappear down the line; there's actually been several times where a track has reappeared and I didn't play it the first time around, but the 2nd time it appears I actually beat what the WR was the first time around-but the only thing is it's not fast enough for the WR this time around lol). Later in this video you mentioned things such as mechanics and stuff. I don't know too much about that stuff but I did hear you mention softdrifting. That actually does exist in this game and it's pretty commonly used in TTs (including a few spots on Maple Treeway). A few tours ago Kalimari Desert 2 returned as a TT and I actually ended up tying the WR from the last time, but that track was purely softdrifting, most especially on lap 1. You also mentioned low tricking. So that is actually a thing in this game too however it's not the same as in other games. There are a vareity of ramps in this game and any time I see a trick ramp in this game, from a TT standpoint I am thinking "ideally I want to get a lowtrick here." There are certain types of ramps where you can "influence" a lowtrick and get one more consistently, however there are some types of ramps where it is just totally random as to whether you will get a lowtrick or not. Unlike in a game like MKWii for example where, and pardon me as I have zero idea about any of the tech in this game lol, but like I think you press the button at a specific instance in time while you're on the ramp in order to get a low trick or something like that. Again sorry if I am wrong there but my point is, while there is lowtricking in this game, it is very different from other games, the biggest difference being that there is nothing you "press" to get a trick, you automatically get a trick if you go over a trick ramp, and it's just a matter of getting lucky or approaching it right so as to properly manufacture a low trick off a ramp. I don't know what slip drifting and spin drifting are lol so I couldn't tell you if those exist in this game or not haha, but I could ask some people who would know. I could go on and on about TTing lol. I'm curious as to what settings you used while driving in this video. I know you used manual drift obviously, but I'm wondering if you used smart steering or no smart steering. Turning smart steering off would enable you to take advantage of some shortcuts that you otherwise wouldn't be able to take, as well as some NISCs and not to mention being able to take offroad cuts in Megas. Also based on the movements of your kart on Airship Fortress R, I'm curious as to whether you were using gyro controls or not. Another control setting that is popular for players to use in this game is called "drift button," where you turn manual drift to "off" and you have the "steer/drift" option turned "on." When you have manual drift you will have the "steer" button, meaning when you move your finger on the other parts of the screen your kart will drift, and if you want to steer you press the "steer" button. With drift button, instead of that button saying "steer" it will say "drift," and what this does is it inverts the controls, so if you want to drift you press the "drift" button and to steer you move your finger on the other parts of the screen. Or, if you use gyro controls, then you just tilt your phone/iPad to steer your kart. There are different elements and stuff to how each control setting functions, and advantages and disadvantages to each, some of which is track dependent. I won't get into that though lol and also I'm not the expert in that type of knowledge to be honest, but I know a few people that could really explain those details lol. So now just some other things: yeah the tracks usually do look great. Choco Mountain was one that when it first came out, everybody loved the details that went into it. And yeah from your previous videos I have noticed some of the updated custom tracks incorporating MKT style designs to them, such as Choco Mountain like you mention and Koopa Beach 2. At 1:56 what happened there was a banana came out of that crate and you ran into it. Either shrooms or bananas, or nothing, will pop out of those crates on the Airship Fortress variants. Regarding 4:52 , so with the Dash Ring special skill, yeah it does help the enemy racers so that is a downside as far as a MP mindset. But for SP since it's mainly about the points it's not as big a deal. What I've noticed with Dash Rings is that when you use them, you will get a boost about the equivalent to a mushroom boost, and if you go through a dash ring that was not yours, you will get a boost about the equivalent to a MT boost. For reference you have your MTs (just your regular, blue spark boosts), SMTs (orange sparks) and UMTs (purple sparks), and a mushroom boost and a UMT boost are about the same. Also fun fact: 3ds Rainbow Road is the only track in MKT to not be 2 laps, but rather it has 3 "laps," or basically just 3 sections. 6:05 yes, you can dodge a blue shell with a mushroom. You mentioned the bot "GodSpeed" at the end, fun fact is that I (as well as many other players I know) have actually been featured as a bot in this game haha, and it's been numerous times actually with I think 4 different clan/team tags that I have played under. Sorry for such a long comment lol, hopefully it was an interesting read. It was cool to see a MKT video from you! Haha. Yeah this game is maybe moreso viewed as a casual type of thing. There are certainly people who play it a lot and grind various aspects of the game very much though. Such as myself for instance lol, in case you couldn't tell. This is actually the first MK game I've played competitively and I've really enjoyed it! To a lot of people I know it is viewed as a joke but it is what it is, we can't change their opinions. Over the summer there was actually a World Cup tournament hosted by EndGame TV for this game in addition to the MKWii and 8D ones and yeah most people viewed it as a joke lol, but I think there were some that became a bit interested in this game from a competitive standpoint. There are many many players who also play 8D competitively currently, and also some players who either used to play MKWii competitively or maybe are still playing, although that number is pretty small I think, especially in comparison to how many current 8D players there are. Some day I think I might end up getting into the 8D scene as well. The next MK game that comes out I almost certainly plan on playing that one competitively. Anyways yeah sorry for such a long comment lol, if anybody has any questions about any aspect about this game I'm more than happy to answer them as best I can haha
Finally found your comment after you talking about it on Kart Life's Discord and had the chance to read it in full. this Essay is better than i would have imagined, and highlights many of the key features of the game, as well as ones that Troy or other outsiders to the game might not know about. I Hope Troy finds your comment and reads it, and gets back to you, as i found myself nodding at every Paragraph!
Troy as someone who initially didnt like this game for the same reasons I think you are missing the point of the game. Its not about getting first, its about getting high scores and unlocking characters. It was honestly a good approach from Nintendo because of mobile restricting controls I think people just misunderstood the game, hope you can see the fun in it one day.
I think this is the only Mario Kart game that makes me enjoy grinding. Unlocking karts and earning rewards for playing is so neat. I never liked the random unlock system from MK8DX.
@@Daniel328DT One of the biggest flaws in MK8 is the random unlocks. Theres nothing like working long and hard to unlock a specific kart or character and finally getting it after so many tries. I loved that in the old MK games and I'm happy Tour gives us similar goals to strive for.
Yes it's a bit disappointing how almost every nintendo youtuber didn't bother to actually learn what the game is about and just passed it on as a bad game
If anyone wants to get back into Mario Kart Tour, this is the tour to come back. There’s a Pipe coming out on Sunday that’ll have Coin box Drivers (Coin Box is the best item in the game for Points.) Santa Bowser in the Week 1 Pipe also has the Coin Box. Additionally there’s a board of Multiplayer Challenges everyone can do and finishing the Board gets you White Yoshi (a High End). Edit: It is now Sunday so I pulled the now available Coin Box Pipe and I was able to get Gold King Bob-omb and Kamek which were the two Coin Box Drivers I needed from that pipe.
Agreed, this tour is really good and I used to collect all the Coin Box drivers. I don't think I'll collect any more and go down the Lucky Seven path but it was nice getting the ones I do have!
I honestly like mario kart tour, I like how it went away from a standard mario kart game to a more casual mobile game. The playstyle does feel bland that I agree with. But its kinda fun to try to focus at points instead of time. I still prefer mk wii badly though.
I honestly really enjoy Tour, sure it’s pay to win but I’ve played the ranked cup every week since launch and its really fun and challenging comparing your scores against others, especially since I’ve never spent anything on it!
7:38 it’s definitely the second reason. MK8 sells crazy amounts to this day, nintendo is sitting back thinking why they need to make a new one when the old one is so marketable. They also can’t really improve graphics with an MK9
The actual implemented online now with a decently large group of frienfs is actually amazingly fun! I played it a lot with my friends at school breaks and it made for some really fun moments. Definitely not a very skillbased game like mkwii but fun as hell if played with friends
Amazing to see you revisit the game! I do agree that this game should've had real multiplayer from the get-go. It's one of the reasons I didn't play this game until April of last year after seeing all the awesome content it was getting.
From a person playing from launch and spends money on the game. It really is in my opinion a step up from the other games with updates every 2 weeks and new alt characters. I think you and a lot of ppl who haven’t played it since your bad experience at launch haven’t given it a chance and just complain about it every time you hear about it. I love the game and I think it’s a way better structure of a game with pulling on the pipe etc.
I've been playing this for about a year and a half, and even in that time frame, a lot has changed. I'm pretty sure MKT is geared as more of a spin-off, but I still really enjoy it!
MKT actually has Multiplayer now (while it's not perfect, it does suffice for the most part) ...I'm very competitive in this mode tbh XD This game has become more friendly for everyone, especially F2P...big changes to take note of are : Token Shop - Tier Shop - FREE ACP High-end every tour - TCP's : all things that help expand your inventory + rubies are easier to come by now & collect over time Battle mode might even be added to the game next year or so (not guaranteed, but, it has been hinted at in-game)
I've talked about Beach Buggy Racing 2 before. That's my go-to for mobile kart racing. #1 reason I gave up on Tour was because of all the microtransactions and keeping track of your upgrades. Because of course the more upgrades you have, the more enjoyment you can get out of it
Fun fact: Tour has Pauline, Monty Mole, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Dixie Kong, Kamek, King Bob-omb, Nabbit, Hammer/Fire/Ice/Boomerang Bro, Captain Toad, and Explorer Toadette as playable characters Unfortunate fact: The gap cut on DK Summit has been removed
imo the game itself is pretty good its juts not an actual mario kart game, thats mostly why people hate on it so much cause they think it'll be the same thing oh and the gacha aspect but that is expected of a mobile game. i personally like how the game changes tracks seasonally it makes it more diverse and entertaining for the people that plays it regularly
yeah that's a good way to look at it, if people go into it knowing that it's not gonna be like your typical MK game then that could help them come to enjoy it for what it is
7:45 well lucky your wish was granted there and also if you want Funky Kong, is best to wait until he’s in the spotlight you’ll have more of a chance and you mostly need a Gold Pipe to get any high end character but yeah
Hey Troy, I was the one who did the remake for N64 Choco Mountain. I'm glad you really enjoyed the track. When it was introduced in Mario Kart Tour, I was astonished how Nintendo manged to reinvent the track and that intrigued me to the point I recreated it for Mario Kart Wii. It's probably my favorite retro they've done for Tour even though I never played the game.
I actually like alternate costumes for characters. The Golden King Boo, the Santa Bowser, Cowboy hat Wario… all awesome and would make me play more to get all the outfits
It's really obnoxious to get things you want. The gacha is extremely picky. I barely pull for drivers nowadays. Unless it's super cheap and a new driver like Kamek, then I don't even care.
@@Daniel328DT I love collecting new character outfits but yeah, the gacha isn't very friendly to everyone. I just drained the entire pipe for Reindeer Yoshi. That's why I always save 450+ rubies before pulling for a driver. It's the safest thing to do and you save yourself a lot of tears and dpression 😂 ESPECIALLY if something you really wanted is wayyyy at the bottom and you don't have enough rubies to go down there.
Mario Kart 8's been topping sale charts ever since deluxe came out. I hate that we haven't got a new one or even updates to the game itself... we all think it's time for a new one.
I play it for the new content. MK8DX has gotten stale for me as I've played the Wii U leading to the Switch version. Did everything and I'm not really interested in raising my VR.
@@Daniel328DT all good reasons! I've only had MK8DX for about a year, so hopefully I don't get burnt out too soon. Definitely can see how that can happen though since you had the Wii U as well.
You should revisit this game when Ninja Hideaway is back on rotation. It's probably over of the best Mario Kart tracks ever and it's made specifically for MKT
While i don't care that much for this game, i do think there are some parts of it which could be added to MK9. Things like reverse tracks, mission mode, character outfits and the large character roster would be great.
For a mobile game it’s alright but compared to the consoles it’s not the same Mario kart experience. The game is p2w which makes it really unfair Ik most mobile games are p2w but I expected from Nintendo. This is all my opinion, I understand why people like it.
Actually, when you get a gold pipe, it means you'll either get a driver, kart or glider. It can be one of the spotlights or it can be in the regular high-end pool. For example, Holiday Cheer Daisy and Reindeer Yoshi are in Holiday Pipe 2. If you did a single right now and got gold, you could either get Reindeer Yoshi, Holiday Cheer Daisy, Sleigh Rider, Jingle Bells, Glitter Glider or Jolly Bells, which are the spotlights which are guaranteed in the pipe within 100 pulls, OR you can get a random regular high-end, which can be Funky Kong, Pink Gold Peach, Peach (Wintertime), Birdo (Black), White Yoshi, Steel Driver, Wildfire Flyer, Offroader, P-Wing, Gold Glider, Starchute, Tropical Glider, Daisy Glider, etc. You can also pull the special pipes which usually have 50 items in it but none of them are guaranteed.
As a Mario Kart nut not everything from Tour is all doom and gloom, it's rather delightful for a mobile title Though I get most people on this channel will be expecting MKWii content
Honestly, I never understood the hatred people have had for this game. As for the gacha-pulls part, I find Mario Kart Tour to be much better than games like Fire Emblem Heroes, Pokémon Masters and Genshin Impact. Unlike the other gachas by saving 450 rubies you are sure to get 100% all the elements in the spotlight in the pipe
I love the fact that you can guarantee everything in a 100-pipe with 450 rubies as opposed to something like Fire Emblem Heroes. I thought Fire Emblem Heroes had better gacha mechanics because I simply got more 5-star freebies than high-end freebies but I am getting less and less now and I feel that Mario Kart Tour has a better gacha mechanic. Not to mention you have to merge duplicates yourself in Fire Emblem Heroes but they merge automatically in Mario Kart Tour. It makes things so much easier. The absence of duo/harmonized characters is also helping Mario Kart Tour be a little more fair, although I want that kind of mechanic in Mario Kart Tour at some point, whether it's an extra item slot for the supporting character, a bigger hitbox or another special skill, it'd be cool to see. I want to see Duo Mario and Peach (Valentines) or Mario and Luigi (Vacation) come to the game.
DLC for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe would rake in some serious money, so many people have been hoping for it. It's already the highest selling Mario Kart game, and it isn't showing signs of slowing down, it could very well end up reaching that 50 Million mark by the end of the Switch cycle which is insane. It's still enjoyable as well, not to the extent of Wii, but it's still really good.
You can low-trick in some ramps in MKT.It’s just very very hard. You can’t low-trick on big ramps and jumps, but if you go diagonal on some ramps(Like. Dino Dino Jungle RT’s bridge ramps),you can get a low-trick.
hey troy, if your ever thinking of coming back to the game, well nows the time to do it! Bowser Santa is in this tour, who is super rare, since he only appears in the month of December! i recomend trying to clear as many of the challenge bingos as possible to grind your rubies to pull him. you can also get rubies from the tour gifts which you get from collecting enough stars from doing normal races
This game has some cool stuff, like all the backwards tracks, awesome characters (that you may not get because pay to win, but still), and all that jazz. It has boatloads of content, it just has some fundamental flaws. Also I think they added an actually online mode but the pseudo one still exists? Idk I haven’t played in a long time.
I'd kill to see you take on Ninja Fortress, it's honestly one of the best Mario Kart maps of all time speaking as a 32 year old dude that grew up with the franchise. They're also going to be overhauling 3DS Bowsers Castle this wednesday so there's that too
I lost my phone several weeks ago, which makes it several MKTour seasons I missed, and after finishing the video I realized that no track I saw during gameplay was one I didn't know of already lol
As much as I dislike tour, the tracks are fantastic and the game looks pretty damn great. I can only hope assets get reused for it for a theoretical Mario kart 9 in 2087

This game isn't that bad, but the controls are very very meh
I had MKT day one and was satisfied to see the game be very good for lacking what previous mk's had. After half a year of playing it got so difficult to gain points as any of the characters, karts, and gliders I had gave a lower tier of bonus point multipliers. It left a sour feeling of P2W, and to me that is not what MK is about, it's about challenging yourself to get a good understanding of the drifting, items, and vehicle stats to help achieve victory.
there's no vehicle stats (besides the skill bonuses of mini turbo, jump boost, dash panel, slipstream, rocket start, which tbh don't make THAT much of a difference in the grand scheme of things, not like this game for example) but trust me, there's definitely a lot to learn about driving the tracks in the most optimal manner, just driving in general (best learned through time trialing) and item plays and things of that nature, as far as playing online anyways
@@striker7793 the karts are pretty much the same to drive. In offline, points are the focus. But you're overlooking the online aspect of the game, there is definitely strategy involved in being successful there. And for online, your only goal is to get 1st, or as high a position as you can; points don't mean anything there
You should play online multiplayer mode now that it's available. I have played for over a year and I really enjoy it. I'd love to see you play multiplayer sometime. Also pulling Funky Kong is kinda rare but if you want him, you can wait for him to be either a spotlight or if you're really desperate, pull on Holiday Pipes 1 or 2. I pulled Funky Kong twice so far.
I played it for the first month and paid for the monthly subscription. It got me like 2 pink characters and some great car parts. Then next month every single pink character I had was worthless. I didn't know about the online being fake, it's kinda dumb, but it doesn't bother me. There aren't enough controls to be able to out race the ai. when they frequently have the perfect character then it's pretty hard to win with none of the best characters yourself.
I just play Mario Kart Wii on my phone when I want to play Mario kart on mobile. Don't get why Nintendo hasn't made an official port and just sold it on the Play Store for $40..... Literally free money and it runs flawlessly on most old flagship phones nowadays. Why do mobile games have to suck? I swear they have only gotten worse in the past decade. I remember when mobile games started they used to feel like console games with passion. Now 98% of them are just designed to soak up as much money as possible from "whales"
That’s the general direction games go, not only mobile games. Make games free to play but offer tons of opportunities to pay within the game. Much more profit than making a „one-sell“ game. Or be like FIFA and make people pay 60 bucks AND have expensive in-Game purchases.
@@phillish2258 FIFA is a special type of evil. You just sell a small patch for the same game at >$70 every year and it has heavy heavy microtransactions on top of it and tons of bugs/removed features
The reason why Nintendo isn't making new Mario Kart games isn't that they're not selling well enough - they're selling *too well*. MKW and MK8DX both sold over 38 million copies and are both among the 15 best selling games of all time, which is completely insane. But... That means that Nintendo uses Mario Kart games as their flagship game for the console, the game that'll be the reason you buy their new console for. Which means that we're probably not getting a new, proper Mario Kart game until the next Nintendo console comes out, as they'll want to keep it for that.
Can’t believe even on a mobile game Troy couldn’t avoid getting targetshocked 😂😂 The game looks surprisingly better than it did a couple years ago! I still don’t think it’s very fun, but it LOOKS great. I just wish they put this effort into making an actual MK game instead.
I hope you're happy, Chiz

hey troy im flexing that I have funky kong so…
funky kong was actually added to the pipes as a "normal high end" item, i think this year.
the problem is he's with about 15 other normal high end items. since most 100 pipes only have 1 spotlight driver and 1 normal high end driver at random, you have like a 1 in 16 chance of actually pulling funky kong! but to even get that you would need like 450 rubies to even go through all 100 pipes
The retros in this game were fantastically designed imo. They're perfect for CTGP retros and it's a shame only a few CT creators have tapped into it
The new choco mountain is awesome
maybe in the future there will be more!
Trust me, there are so many good retros here like Sunset Wilds, Cheep Cheep Island, DK Summit, 3DS Bowser's Castle & more
With the new mk8dx dlc there'll be a lot more interest in recreating Mario kart tour tracks without a doubt

@@elikramer8282 Well, as Troy said, it's pretty good for a mobile game. The problem is that it really sucks compared to the main MK games, because "good mobile game" is a very low bar.
Ah, nice!
Until he unlocks Funky Kong, plus 12 hours.
Summed up well!
I'm not sure a game where _you literally have to pay to play as Mario_ would really count as FTP
@@thegseagle3131 yes definitely, that was something that only existed at the very launch of the game
(And will probably remain my personal Mario Kart 9 until we finally get one in 60 years)
I feel the same way tbh, this game has improved alot since launch (new original debut characters, new retros, Merry Mountain & Ninja Hideaway, tier shop, token shop, improved multiplayer, etc.)
It's actually the only mobile game I care for & play daily
I didn’t think too much of Merry Mountain but Ninja Hideaway is probably one of the best Mario Kart tracks out there.
I AM SO HAPPY
HEY HEY HEY HEY HEY DA DA DA DA DAAAA
Troy: No one talks about Mario Kart Tour anymore.
Mankalor: Hello, everybody!
so true lol 😂😂😂
There is a multiplayer mode now, and it’s the best part of the game. There’s a Mogi lounge, an active clan scene, MKTour even had its own World Cup this year
yup!
Yeah, that's where I spend most of my time in MKT...sadly it's underrated & gets alot of hate from what I've seen on Reddit/Twitter & such :/
@@UrSoulsBelong2No1 most people don't know what the hell they're doing and don't understand basic lag concepts and other things, so that probably contributes to why they hate it lol

Thank you, mally fwm
your welcome b05
Thanks for making a video for the game, its really not that bad tbh. I play it since day 1 and still enjoy it even if the hype toned down.
The main gimmick of the game is to keep your combo and get the highest scores possible which to me is a fun idea and quite the challenge too. Its something new and even if you dont want to spend money on the game its still an interesting experience with a lot of beautiful courses!
It's a challenge because you have to constantly spend money on the game to actually make winning more feasible.
Daniel328 not always
Looking at all of the beautiful tracks, imagine if they actually made a real mariokart instead…
Yeah I really enjoy the track work of this game. Plus driving them backwards should be a mode implemented in the new mainline mk game. Also, I really like the different skins you get for characters such as the Golden king boo and Santa Bowser and Cowboy Wario
Ninja Hideaway is a well designed track. I think it needs to be in a console game.
Well this game is a mainline one, so hopefully the next Mario Kart will have some of these Original tracks as retros
Exactly
It's been a few years, time to accept that this is Mario Kart 9
Did they ever add a way to turn off auto pilot?
Ik you dedicate your channel to the game but really most tours are bland and when they do something it’s not enough to make up for it being p2w. Hopefully the game removes all p2w features and maybe a lot of people will like it. When I say remove p2w features I mean make it easier to get high ends and more challenges for rubies and rare high ends to keep ppl engaged. Overall the game could be a masterpiece of a mobile game but atm it really shows how much of a p2w game it is.
@@Aus10Ham what do you mean by auto pilot?
And, you know, 8 Deluxe is really polished"
That section made me laugh for a while lol

7:45 Did Nintendo hear you?
@@YodaPM999 The biggest flaw in Mario kart 8 is that I'm not good enough to do the full shortcut in big blue without mushrooms.
Yes it's a bit disappointing how almost every nintendo youtuber didn't bother to actually learn what the game is about and just passed it on as a bad game
I always wonder what it would be like if Nintendo made a mobile Zelda game 😳😳

7:43 Wow, Troy called it! Two months before the MK8DX DLC reveal
I honestly like mario kart tour, I like how it went away from a standard mario kart game to a more casual mobile game. The playstyle does feel bland that I agree with. But its kinda fun to try to focus at points instead of time. I still prefer mk wii badly though.
This game has really improved, it's nice that you gave it a little revisit
Not the best MK game, but a fun to go game :)
I honestly really enjoy Tour, sure it’s pay to win but I’ve played the ranked cup every week since launch and its really fun and challenging comparing your scores against others, especially since I’ve never spent anything on it!
Love all the positivity to MKT in the comments! :D
Definitely not a very skillbased game like mkwii but fun as hell if played with friends
playing online competitively is also really fun too, at least for me
I honestly like this game more than mk8dx
Amazing to see you revisit the game! I do agree that this game should've had real multiplayer from the get-go. It's one of the reasons I didn't play this game until April of last year after seeing all the awesome content it was getting.
Thank you to the 🐐 Chizplays for this video. Lololol.
MKT actually has Multiplayer now (while it's not perfect, it does suffice for the most part) ...I'm very competitive in this mode tbh XD
This game has become more friendly for everyone, especially F2P...big changes to take note of are : Token Shop - Tier Shop - FREE ACP High-end every tour - TCP's : all things that help expand your inventory + rubies are easier to come by now & collect over time
Battle mode might even be added to the game next year or so (not guaranteed, but, it has been hinted at in-game)
I've talked about Beach Buggy Racing 2 before. That's my go-to for mobile kart racing.
#1 reason I gave up on Tour was because of all the microtransactions and keeping track of your upgrades. Because of course the more upgrades you have, the more enjoyment you can get out of it
Its fun when you play it alot.
You can evade blue shells with a mushroom it is usually an expert challenge and you get a nice amount of points for dodging them as well
I still play Mario kart tour it is my favorite mario kart game ever before Tour came out Mario kart double dash was my favorite I play that one a lot
My favorite part of this game are the nitro tracks are the nitro tracks and the Roster. I Hope they come back in future Mariokart games.
Fun fact: Tour has Pauline, Monty Mole, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, Dixie Kong, Kamek, King Bob-omb, Nabbit, Hammer/Fire/Ice/Boomerang Bro, Captain Toad, and Explorer Toadette as playable characters
Unfortunate fact: The gap cut on DK Summit has been removed
yeah, when it came out that was the first thing I tried doing, much to my disappointment lol
imo the game itself is pretty good its juts not an actual mario kart game, thats mostly why people hate on it so much cause they think it'll be the same thing oh and the gacha aspect but that is expected of a mobile game. i personally like how the game changes tracks seasonally it makes it more diverse and entertaining for the people that plays it regularly
yeah that's a good way to look at it, if people go into it knowing that it's not gonna be like your typical MK game then that could help them come to enjoy it for what it is
Tour is as crazy as it gets, whatever the driving style. One time, I smuggled a blue shell and finished in first in an online Worldwide.
This is a certified hood classic

6:05 yes you can dodge a blue shell using a mushroom
there have been actual challenges to dodge blue shells.
i think it was on the last expert challenge sheet we had before this one.
hot take: I like tour more than 8 deluxe
Hey Troy, I was the one who did the remake for N64 Choco Mountain. I'm glad you really enjoyed the track. When it was introduced in Mario Kart Tour, I was astonished how Nintendo manged to reinvent the track and that intrigued me to the point I recreated it for Mario Kart Wii. It's probably my favorite retro they've done for Tour even though I never played the game.
yeah when it first came out everyone was amazed at how different and great it looked
i love that even in mkt troy still gets hype
I can't believe that its already been two years+ since he uploaded Mario Kart Tour vids. Time really does fly by!!!
Mario Kart 8's been topping sale charts ever since deluxe came out. I hate that we haven't got a new one or even updates to the game itself... we all think it's time for a new one.
I feel like Tour will suffice for someone that doesn't have access to a console version to get their Mario Kart fix, but that's about it.
Many people stopped playing due to the first few tours of the game. But Great video! Love how you revisited this game and gave it a 2nd chance
only reason he did was because he lost a bet LMAOOO
For a mobile game it’s alright but compared to the consoles it’s not the same Mario kart experience. The game is p2w which makes it really unfair Ik most mobile games are p2w but I expected from Nintendo.
This is all my opinion, I understand why people like it.
Heres a pipe thing you need to know:
When you see the pipe as gold, a good/next tour favored character will appear
You can also pull the special pipes which usually have 50 items in it but none of them are guaranteed.
the only reason I play this game is because it's pretty, but yeah I agree its slow and floaty.
Sully!!! You should make videos on this game ;)
Mario Kart Tour is really fun but I haven’t played it in a month
You can actually dodge blue shells with mushrooms in MK Tour! Great vid, Troy! :D
It’s a fun game to just chill to for me. Especially the Christmas season event. I love that track cause of it’s music on it.
Sucks that all mobile Nintendo IPs lack that polish
As a Mario Kart nut not everything from Tour is all doom and gloom, it's rather delightful for a mobile title
Though I get most people on this channel will be expecting MKWii content
I still love this game
Wanna know a game nobody remembers that i dont know the actual title? Mario Run
Fun Fact: so far, if added together, there are 22 Mario’s in this game.
even worst then 5 in deluxe
Bruh 22 Mario alts isn’t that much when there’s like 100 alts in total
One the bright side, Tour has the best character roster in the series
@@awesometoadultimate8562 yea
Troy they did added multiplayer to the game, not sure if you noticed, down left corner of the screen you can enter a multiplayer session.
was kind of hoping he would do that this video tbh

Ah yes, my favourite video game console, *the PHONE*
Let's go I have SO looking forward to this!!
This game would be great on a console
I’ve put lots of time into Mario Kart Tour but I still like any other Mario Kart game better
This video in a nutshell: mkwii professional player complains of losing a challenge by calling mobile adaption of game bad
I love constantly drifting in this game.
I actually like this game😭😭😭😭
hey troy, if your ever thinking of coming back to the game, well nows the time to do it! Bowser Santa is in this tour, who is super rare, since he only appears in the month of December! i recomend trying to clear as many of the challenge bingos as possible to grind your rubies to pull him. you can also get rubies from the tour gifts which you get from collecting enough stars from doing normal races
Honestly MKT isn't that bad it just takes some getting used to and lots of money lol
More like ALL the money you have if you want to max out everything
This game has some cool stuff, like all the backwards tracks, awesome characters (that you may not get because pay to win, but still), and all that jazz. It has boatloads of content, it just has some fundamental flaws. Also I think they added an actually online mode but the pseudo one still exists? Idk I haven’t played in a long time.
the psuedo one that you and Troy refer to does still exist in the same fashion, however yes, there is an actual online mode now
I'd kill to see you take on Ninja Fortress, it's honestly one of the best Mario Kart maps of all time speaking as a 32 year old dude that grew up with the franchise. They're also going to be overhauling 3DS Bowsers Castle this wednesday so there's that too
I lost my phone several weeks ago, which makes it several MKTour seasons I missed, and after finishing the video I realized that no track I saw during gameplay was one I didn't know of already lol
i think the reason they aren't making a new game is definently because they don't sell well enough
You salvaged the video with the last race.
As much as I dislike tour, the tracks are fantastic and the game looks pretty damn great. I can only hope assets get reused for it for a theoretical Mario kart 9 in 2087
This game isn't that bad, but the controls are very very meh
10:00 Well that's something I'd never thought I'd hear😂
2:10 Throw it back 😳
0:37 It was actually CPU just that you can play with your friends and CPUs
@@davidriedy5977 I know there aren't stats in Tour. They all feel the same to drive. It's all about points and items, not as skillful as any other MK.
@@striker7793 the karts are pretty much the same to drive. In offline, points are the focus. But you're overlooking the online aspect of the game, there is definitely strategy involved in being successful there. And for online, your only goal is to get 1st, or as high a position as you can; points don't mean anything there
@@davidriedy5977 I might give it another chance now that some things have improved, but if it feels the same I'm dropping it.
@@striker7793 yeah no worries, you don't have to even give it another chance if you don't want to lol
10:00 "BEST GAME EVER!!" - said nobody
Mario Kart Tour = How many Mario Alts can we fit into one game?
i can’t believe You are finally back on mario kart tour
You should play online multiplayer mode now that it's available. I have played for over a year and I really enjoy it. I'd love to see you play multiplayer sometime.
Also pulling Funky Kong is kinda rare but if you want him, you can wait for him to be either a spotlight or if you're really desperate, pull on Holiday Pipes 1 or 2. I pulled Funky Kong twice so far.
i wish they had the “normal” mario kart features, but then added tour mode as a new mode, basically being the entire game but in a new mode
PS not saying all mobile games are bad, I really like BTD6 and I am sure Mario Kart Tour is still fun. But it bewilders me that they don't do this
That’s the general direction games go, not only mobile games.
@@phillish2258 HI PHILLISH
The reason why Nintendo isn't making new Mario Kart games isn't that they're not selling well enough - they're selling *too well*. MKW and MK8DX both sold over 38 million copies and are both among the 15 best selling games of all time, which is completely insane.
But... That means that Nintendo uses Mario Kart games as their flagship game for the console, the game that'll be the reason you buy their new console for. Which means that we're probably not getting a new, proper Mario Kart game until the next Nintendo console comes out, as they'll want to keep it for that.
Can’t believe even on a mobile game Troy couldn’t avoid getting targetshocked 😂😂
The game looks surprisingly better than it did a couple years ago! I still don’t think it’s very fun, but it LOOKS great. I just wish they put this effort into making an actual MK game instead.
don't worry troy, you will get better at it if you play more of it. it gets better when you play it more, remember that way?
