    Some of the episode are so thoroughly British, in that slow turning of windmills in British minds, taking the time to mince views, and opinions, seemingly not paying attention, but suddenly showing clarity of mind in full swing. A very peculiar kind of folks, those islanders.
    It´s for the second time that I watch this episode. That style of walking by Sherlock Holmes, when he goes off for his appointment, when Watson watches him walk away, is priceless.
    A carefree, and almost boyish lightness in his steps, an agile clever good fellow indeed 😏

    Born in Boston 1960 we had a small black and white set for years and there's something about it I like, the new HD TV's lack the ambiance of old shows like this, I prefer these. Thank you

      Was that a rerun? It first aired in 1954/55 didn't it? Did your family mention it being repeated I wonder... I realise it's 60+ years ago of course!

    These are so much better than the bumbling Watson in the Rathbone era and over played neurotic poncey Holmes that Jeremy Brett portrayed

    Watson trying to outsmart Holmes - one feels sorry for him! Even with Lestrade help he's all at sea.
    Now if he'd enrolled Wilkins he might have had better luck ...

      Your right about Wilkins. He's great and steals the show

      @@greggmoldovan1165 I thought Sheldon missed a trick by not making. a spinoff with Wilkins and some original scripts, maybe with SH as an occasional guest ?

    I believe these films were made in the 1950's and 1960's; but, the time setting was the late 1890's. There was a mistake made by the actor portraying Dr. Watson when he made a reference to Queen Elizabeth's crown jewels. During the 50's and 60's the Queen of Great Britain was Queen Elizabeth; but, the time period of the movie and the books, upon which these movies were made, the Queen was Victoria, not Elizabeth. I wonder if I'm the only one to have caught that error?

      @rodneybeam 3 місяці тому

      I'm afraid the error is yours... The placard describing the jewelry on display in the museum says, "Ceremonial Jewels Worn By Queen Elizabeth 1558-1603," the years when Elizabeth was indeed the Queen of England and Ireland, the last monarch of the Tudor Dynasty, which ruled England from 1485-1603. Sorry about that...
