@@HeretiCflow It really depends on the location. Sometimes for bikers it's even "forbitten" to leave the gravel paths and they hate bikes, and sometimes you have practically only bikers on the trails.
@@oliverstraub4747 but is this one a dedicated bike trail closed to hikers? Didn't see signs. And if not, Finn is certainly at fault pinning it down this trail.
I don‘t know much about this trail but it looks very natural in many sections. Also how the fuck are some elderly hikers supposed to know that some clay turns (if you even notice something like that when you are not into the sport) mean “danger riders come down the trail with 40km/h”. If there are enough signs for a trail they should have stay away, but this looks more like a popular locals trail. So tourists have a very low chance to know about this.
Always respect people coming up a trail. Unless the trails is "bike only" there should be used caution for people using the trail in anyway. I would have stopped to talk to them to be honest.
As someone who's been in this situation its a much better idea to stop, apoligise formally, and see if they're alright. Because its basically a hit and run if you just leave the scene like this (though its not because you didn't hit them) But that lady may have fallen after having to jump out the way. Always better to stop. I'm guilty of doing this and it wasn't a happy ending. Great video and love this trail!
Yeah i agree shit happens - but the alps have a lot of tention because of hikers and mtb. So a proper apology would have been the least he should have done.
I think he handled it well. Doesn't seem like he was in the wrong in the first place and he remained calm without cursing at the hikers which would be a mistake. That's a good professional mindset. In his place would you stop and try to explain to those people, who may or may not speak English, that they were not supposed to hiking there? Maybe this trail is not a dedicated downhill trail and that makes it a different story but to me it would be obvious with all the berms and jumps that this path is not made for hikers.
It was completely his fault. This is a puplic trail. And NOT closed for hikers. He needs to take care that hikers don't get hurt. If he wants to race, he should to do that on a closed track and not in public.
I refuse to believe they couldn't hear you tearing down there... but then again, light does move faster that sound 😏 Best of luck for the season dude, it's gonna be a good one for sure!
with a little bit of wind, the speed of Finn and the steep trail it is easy to not have any clue till the guy is there. Something similar happened to me a few years ago,2 kids were playing very close to and abandoned helipad the trail crossed. When I was jumping off the helipad to the trail the kids were there and made the same move those hikers did to avoid me landing on top of them. So it could dangerous going flat out in some trails.
Great video. I’m a 12 year old in Australia and I race XC but I would love to race downhill. You have such good flow and I always look at your riding to better improve mine.
Damn they reacted fast, that could have been nasty. Seemed like that bottom section connected with lots of other trails and paths, so I can see why people might use the track to walk on if they weren't locals.
Duude. I know this trail well and it‘s crazy how fast you‘re going down there. The trail doesn‘t look nearly as technical on the video than it is in real life. Would love to see you on a trail in Switzerland before you leave for lourdes 🤙🏼
Not a fan of the DH race training on a shared trail that is open for bikers AND hikers in both directions. That could go wrong very easily and it would not be the first trail that would be closed for bike access because of that. Sick speed, though.
IF it was not a bike trail legally closed for pedestrians (which I don't assume), please, don't ride like that, it's publicly accessible land, everybody is allowed to walk there. Yes, it's probably not the best idea to hike up a popular bike trail, but this is not marked in hiking maps. Going faster than your abilities (to stop) is irresponsible. And not stopping and talk it out after the incident is very rude, at the least to inform them politely about the bike trail. I'm an avid mountain biker living in Switzerland and this behavior is not helping the sport at all.
This is why we have such big complains between bikers and hikers in the alps.Go full Speed on public trails, scare the shit out of them and then just scream "sorry" and go on.. Next time PLEASE stop and appologise and be a little bit respectful.. Thanks!
People like him are the reason alpine Mountainbiking gets more and more restricted and pushed into bike parks. Not stopping and checking for the hikers health is like a hit and run driving. And afterwards even generating clicks and money with this event. What a jerk!!
That was seriously close. Why weren't you wearing your bike bell? ; ) seriously though, they must have heard you coming. Just underestimated the speed. We have real issues in Austria on shared trails. Drives me nuts. Are bike bells the solution?
This does look like a shared hiker/biker trail. Although it is fascinating how you drove it you should pay attention to the fact that hikers (and cars) may get into your flying route. The way you did is surely high skilled and awesome to watch, but it may be also the way for the cable car giving the opportunity of refusing to transport bikes uphill or even worse the closing of the single track for bikers. There are many examples of that here in Germany.
You missed one bit at 4:19 Finn! If you go straight instead of left, theres a steep, techy, narrow fun piece instead of going straight onto the forest road. So cool you're in Dorenaz!
Hi Finn ! Big fan of your work since your juniors years, saw you riding like a champ'. Amazing speed on the trail but, you could have hurt them (shits happen we all know that), but you could have stop. You know ... Better safe than sorry, especially during the training. Sure you riding skills are awesome but your social skills lack big times... Sorry to be so honest. That is a shared trail... Be more responsible in your position as a famous rider...
That speed is incredible! Best of luck at the WC Finn!
Welcome to my home Switzerland, where people like to hike on downhill trails (but at least we have a good reaction!)
seriously quick reaction time for everyone involved!
This is everywhere, at my home mountain in Vancouver, i get yelled at by hikers for using the bike only trails
